It looks much brighter but could be weathered or something.

Unless he has some sort of split personality in which he is a complete Clown during the day and a serial killer at night I don't see him being a murderer
I don't say he's the killer but maybe he knows more than we think. There is no clearly explanation yet why this piece of fabric was there so it could be something I guess.
And by the way, the shape/form of this jeans scrap looks pretty similar to the tear on his left knee. Just rotate it 180* vertical.
