What year is it in TWAU?

edited February 2014 in The Wolf Among Us

I first assumed it was based in the 1950s because of the detective noire theme the game has but now i don't think so because of all the cars. It also can't be based in the present day or even close to the present day because of how dated all the tech is in this game for example the TVs are very out of date i have not seen a single modern flat screen and i remember seeing Georgie's old time fat cell phone in episode 2.

So does anyone know what year or decade TWAU is based in?

  • I started a topic like this too. Its somewhere in 80's. It has color tvs for example.

  • It's the 1980s no exact date stated. Beauty's 80's hair didn't give it away?

  • Early 80s

  • Just compared, and sadly for everyone saying the game takes place in the 80's the phone matches. The phone is from 1992

  • I would not know what 80s hair is since i grew up in the 90s.

  • But according to that link you posted that make of phone was first released in 1984. So maybe mid 80s?

I guess I won't be fooled by something again... fucking advertisements.

EDIT: Or I read it wrong, 1992 was when production stopped.

  • i thought it was modern times? then again i don't see any computers or cell phones, or anything like that at all.

  • There is one mobile phone used by Georgie. I gave a link a bit lower. It was out in the late 80's and really early 90's. You can find it in several other games as well.

  • You know,in my theory,I think it could be the 2000s but earlier. maybe, they don't have many advancements and re stuck in the 90s or 80s.just a theory

    A GAY THEORY wait what?

  • Yes i have seen many like Back to the Future and many others. I was just joking about that. I didn't notice Beauty's hair because i don't really have a keen eye for these things.

  • The poster that Woodsman smashes Bigby into says "the dark future of 1996".

  • Back to the Future is 90% set in the 50s, though.

  • Copied and past from wikipedia: "DynaTAC is a series of cellular telephones manufactured by Motorola, Inc. from 1984 to 1994."

So yeah first released in 1984 and stooped making them in 1994.

  • My guess is somewhere between '84-'88. As a child of the '80s I can remember big hair, neon and synthesizers, all of which are present. The soundtrack to TWAU definately has a John Carpenter feel about it which I like.

  • I heard the game takes place 20 years before the comics started; which would put it in 1982? But maybe that's just an estimate. I don't think it matters too much.

  • In Episode 1 there was a poster for a movie set in the "dark future of 1996", called Mongoose. It's a direct reference/homage to the Stallone movie Cobra, which came out in 1986. Odds are the game is set around then too.

  • Gremlins is an awesome movie.

  • In the credits sequence there is a calendar on Bigbys' wall but you can only see that it's July.

But if it is early to mid eighties there is a certificate on Bigbys' wall also seen in the credits that was presented to him by King Cole on the 16th of December 1835.

Bigbys' looking good for a 150 year old! (Fables don't age the same as mundies).

Nice find. Original fables never age. This only means one thing, Crane gets fired and killed by Bigby.
