  • Many years ago...

As ageless as the water and the sky, the rocks and the winds, Winter Wolf sat upon her icy throne with the wisdom of a thousand scholars. She took on her adult form, for she was no longer a little girl in the slightest. The recent death of her father has caused her to go around her mother's rules, to an extent, in order to maintain her position of power in the North Wind Kingdom. She learned to spread herself out; On the Farm, she was a little ten year old girl, doing Snow White's bidding and listening to the rules like a good child. Here, however, she was grown and made her own rules, and wanted to do her own things, and she was preparing for many events to come in the future. The impending battle between Snow and Rose were on the agenda; She made sure to recruit those under her to her mother's side. She also had to tame the other winds, set her word in stone that they will not bother her, nor will they think of her as lower than them, because of her birth year. No, she was much better than them in all ways, for the North rules over the East, the West, and the South. She did, however, make amends to the previous North Wind's rules, which seemed to quell them for a time.

"Good riddance," She said to herself as they passed out of sight, over the mountains and the valleys nearby and distant. Her nymph servants stopped acting like proper gentlemen and women, and went back to their rambunctious ways, throwing snowballs at one another. They felt like children sometimes, but when she needed to get things done, they very well stood in orderly lines and executed her plans neatly. So she couldn't just get rid of them. Besides, they were growing on her.

"Prepare the dining room for dinner," She told them softly, skidding across the floor to her study. She didn't actually need to eat much, since she was an all powerful God, but on occasion, she enjoyed to do so. Waiting for dinner to finish it's preparation, she often times sat beside the fireplace and read a book or two.

She picked up a journal leftover from her grandfather. She was often curious about him, how he was, how he felt, and how he dealt with his rule. According to the entries, things were more often than not very quiet and uneventful. It was only toward the end, when his life was reaching an end, were things more complicated. She learned about his sacrifice, about his reasoning. How he defeated Mr. Dark. She smiled, despite the sadness of it, because she knew in the end that he loved all of his grandchildren, even Ghost.

Closing the book, she felt a disturbance in the winds that surrounded her castle. Usually she would write them off, figuring a flock of birds were passing by. But this was oddly different. Her eyes widened at the sudden realization that there could be someone, or something, visiting her residence. She dropped the old leather bound journal to the floor, and stormed across the manor as quickly as she could. Her body lingered on one side of the doors, waiting. Waiting for what? She couldn't be sure. It was something average sized. Alive.

Footsteps. She heard whoever it was stepping across the snowy path, their shoes crunching in the ice and snow. Her heart raced, with excitement rather than fear, because she no longer had any irrational fears. Whoever it was, she could surely kill them if it came down to that.

A knock. Several knocks. A fist jamming against the fanciful carved wooden and ice doors that were the entrance to her home. She twisted the handles slowly, composing herself quickly. Her face was a mask of amusement, but deep down, she was more curious than even her child self had been.

His head was level to hers, as she'd forgotten to grow in size, for intimidation purposes. Too late now, she supposed. She was proportionally human sized, and so was the man facing her. And she knew exactly who this man was, too. Prince Charming. A scowl replaced her previous expression, and she considered slamming the door on his face. He was, after all, the ex-husband of her own mother. He was also supposed to be dead.

"Hello?" He said when their eyes met. "I thought this place was abandoned, for some odd reason..." His gaze wandered past Winter's shoulders, to the expansiveness of the inside. "I guess I was wrong. Anyway-"

"What are you doing here, in the North Wind Kingdom?" Winter's voice was strong, and it caught the prince off guard. "...And why are you alive?"

"Excuse me?" Prince Charming asked. "What kind of question is the second one supposed to be. Do I know you?"

"I am Winter Wolf," Winter said assertively. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't blast you to the other end of the world?"

Prince Charming put his hands out in front of himself defensively. "Whoa, whoa, lady. Winter. Whatever. Wait....did you say your last name was Wolf? Whatever, that doesn't matter, I see you're gradually getting very angry with me. I-"

Winter cooled herself down some, planting one of her hands across her face. She sighed aloud, and then opened her eyes to see him once more. He looked tattered, upon further examination. An eye patch covered one of his eyes, and his cloths were very unsuitable for the weather conditions.

    "Where have you come from?"

"Me? The Sahara desert. Er, the Homelands version, at least. I'm looking for a way back, really." He replied. "Any way you can at least give directions?"

She took a moment to think. He was obviously not there to pose any threat. And her mother somewhat forgave him years ago, now that Snow was essentially married with children. She might as well point him in the right direction, and offer him food. He looked gaunt to her.

"Why don't you come in and grab some food," She suggested coolly. "You look starving."

"Ha," Charming said. "Yeah. I ran out of food several days ago. But, you know, I stopped thinking about eating and the pain started to subside. A little. A bite would be great."

Winter rolled her eyes. She knew he was a charmer; It was in his name. She would just have to resist it, and things would go by easily. She brought him in, catching the eye of one of her servants.

    "Hailstone?"

"Yes, North Wind?" The nymph beckoned. "What may I do to help you?"

"Prepare another dish. We have a guest," Winter said, gesturing to Charming.

"Already being prepared," Hailstone replied. She scurried off ahead of them, to the kitchen.

Charming's eye scanned the area. Winter wondered why he had a patch on. Maybe a minor injury? Maybe he forgot it was on him? She refrained from staring, leading him across to the grand staircase.

"Are you cold?" She asked him nonchalantly. It took him a minute to respond, as he was taking in the grandness of his surroundings.

"Oh, um, yeah," He said, crossing his arms. She could sense him shivered as she passed by him. She grabbed the attention of another nymph, Flurry, and told him to grab warmer clothes from upstairs. She smiled as he scurried up the steps, and flew down a hall at the top.

Charming turned to look at Winter, and he smiled. "You find ruling fun?"

"Fun? I don't know if that's the correct terminology," She bantered. "I think you mean....enjoyable. I do. To an extent."

Charming pursed his lips, and the nymph was handing him stylish looking long pants and a warm jacket. He happily pulled both items over his cloths, a mess of raggy looking middle-east styled shirt and pants. It was a hasty job and Winter looked away out of courtesy for the prince.

"Dinner is also ready," Flurry told Winter, with a childish smile. Winter smiled back, patting his head as she lead Charming down the hall toward the dining room. She liked to keep light to a minimum as she ate, so all that lit the room was a few table candles. Nerves tensing gradually, she took her place at the head of the table. The meal was steak and vegetables, with a side of salad with light Italian dressing over it.

"Mmm," Charming said, patting his stomach. "I've been really craving some steak, you know." He sat in the chair diagonal from hers, uncomfortably close for Winter's standards. She let the feel pass though, and began sawing through the meat.

"Medium," He said, chewing it. "I prefer rare, but it is what it is."

"I prefer rare as well," Winter said softly. "They never cook it quite right. But I don't always tell them. Nymphs are simple creatures, and get easily depressed when their masters aren't pleased."

"Sounds like you need new ones," Charming half-mumbled as he scooped peas onto his fork.

Winter chuckled. "No, I enjoy them enough to keep them."

"Well then that's good then, isn't it?" He smiled in her direction, his perfect white teeth glistening in the candlelight. Before Winter could process it, she was blushing softly. She prayed he couldn't see it in the dark-lit room.

"If you would like," Winter offered, "You can stay for a night. I'll give you directions to Fabletown, but otherwise you should rest a little."

Charming smirked, which sent an overwhelming current of feelings across Winter's skin, making her shiver. She never shivered. She crossed her legs tightly and sat back, done eating her meal. She stared as he ate the rest of his, using all those manners he'd probably spent years upon years mastering and using. When he was done, he began telling his tale, of how he ended up not dying, and how he lost his eye.

"Normally, since I'm so popular," He was explaining. "It would just grow back. Weird, right? Well, it was plucked out by a magic sword. And I guess those types of injuries are more permanent."

"How unfortunate," Winter said, bringing her wine glass to her lips. She couldn't stop looking at him, and it both bothered her and amazed her, deep down in her heart. "I'll have the nymphs clean up. Let me show you to your living quarters?"

"Of course, Ma'am," He said cordially. It made her heart flutter softly. She stood straight, her boots squeaking against the floor as she turned on her heal, leading him all the way up the stairs and down various corridors through out the castle. She felt his gaze on her and her belongings, over the icy blocks that made the ways and the various carpets across the floor. She took him to a chamber down the hall from her own, opening the door softly. With a flick of her own finger, the room lit up brightly, the lighting imbedded in the ice ceilings, colored weak shades of purple, blue, and pink. It added color to most of the fairly white furnishings within the room. And it was pretty spectacular.

"Very nice." He said, walking past her. He examined the bed, a comfy pile of cotton and feather stuffed mattresses, with white pillows and comforters.

"I hope it suits you," She said. Her arms were crossed as she stood there and watched him sit on a duvet carefully. She watched him wince as he stretched out, and curiosity struck her mind once more. "Is something wrong?"

He shook his hand in her direction. "No, you don't have to concern yourself with me. I just have wounds underneath my clothes to tend to, is all."

"I have healing properties," Winter said, almost jumbled. "I can help."

He looked up at her, eyeing her curiously. Even though the eye patch covered one eye, she could still see the curiosity in his expression. She knelt down on the floor, a little too close for comfort. She saw her hand shaking softly, and she willed it to stop. "Lift your shirt."

He obeyed, stripping the jacket off, and then pulling the loose canvas shirt he'd come there with. She saw the bandages wrapped all around his midsection.

"How did you get these?" She asked, softly peeling the bandages off. He winced more, but replied readily.

"I had to get through a lot of things on my journey. I heal, but it sometimes takes time. I also lost my sword, unfortunately." He seemed a bit mad at that last account, his expression going from slight pain to contempt. She tried not to stare at his face as her nimble fingers touched the openings of the wounds. Slashes, like claw marks. She couldn't imagine what did it. No, that was a lie. She could think of far too many creatures who could have done it. At last, she placed her palms directly on the cuts, and Charming yelped out in a loud echo.

"Shh..." She told him. "It'll numb in a few seconds. The cold helps."

"Yeah," He said, panting softly. "Can you get it done a little faster? It still hurts, mind you."

Winter smirked. "Yeah, yeah. Almost..." And the wounds were sealed. She couldn't heal him completely, but she could make the pain subside and quicken the process.

"Thank you..." Charming said, face her. His rough calloused fingers grazed her cheek softly. "I appreciate it."

Winter swallowed. Her eyes were icy blaze, staring into his, which were dark pits of brown. Mystery, charm, and egotism. Still, she craved it. She craved him. She didn't even know why, but she did.

They were kissing. It took Winter by surprise really, especially since she'd been the one who made the first move on it. Their lips were touching softly at first, growing with passion. She felt the butterflies escaping her gut, felt as he pulled her on top of him. His hands traveled across her back, down lower, lower, across her thighs.

He paused for a breath, still holding Winter against him. "If..." He really was breathless. "You don't..."

"I do," She said, not letting him finish. She stood, and pulled him up with her, and she lead him out of his room, still shirtless, down the hall a ways, to her own bed chamber. A much more impressive looking room, with the bed in the middle, surrounded by the view of her entire world. It too was lit those low cool colors, but they gradually dimmed for her. Their hands trailed apart, and she turned to face him. She looked at his muscles, his hands, his face.

He pressed his lips on hers against, and then she collapsed across her bed, the sheets warm against her skin. She felt him tugging at the stretchy fabric of her cloths, his lips and his breath against her neck. She wanted this. She wanted this.

"Stay," She said. "Stay, with me."

"I will," Charming told her softly. "I'll stay."

She smiled. Love must feel like this. This had to be love. She loved Prince Charming. They fled under the sheets for the night.

The next morning, Winter didn't have to wake up to know that he was gone. She knew everything, deep down. She knew when things were fleeting, and their moment together was one of those moments. She cried, but it lasted shortly.

She should have known it wouldn't have lasted.

I actually realized, after thinking, that I never really covered the encounter between Winter and Charming. How our little Harmony and her three brothers came to be. So I pictured it a little like this, to an extent. I hope you liked it ^-^

    Ah I see...

Unfortunately I am a late joiner so I read through these stories with little understanding of events... but I try my best to understand :P

Although I have to admit that I am quite 'sickened' by how Winter (who is technically 10 years old) is sleeping with her Mother's ex-husband... I don't like Charming when he seduces women full stop cuz he'll only end up hurting them in the end.

But Winter?! I know Charming has that effect, but that's disgusting! (to me at least)

... Ok, rant over, sorry about that; on a side note, do you think that Winter knows Bigby is alive in the comics?

(EDIT: My disgust isn't at the age difference; it's at how Charming of all ppl slept with Winter. Winter does not deserve the likes of him no matter what!)

    Chapter 5, Interrogation

More riots continue on the streets of the city and from the looks of it, the Mundies seem to have the upper hand on the Fables, with the help of the gargoyles. If of they knew, if only the Mundies knew they were being played like the Fables. They were scared of having their world taking over by something they didn't even understand, or even bothered giving them the chance. Not all the Fables were evil like Gargoth made them out to be..

Inside the facility of the Anti-Fables, Tezoth is being interrogated by Gargoth. He wants to know why Tez decided to surrender himself over to him, and also how Fable Town react to the events. But Tez just sit there in the chair, calm while the only light in the room shined onto his face as Gargoth continued to question him.

“Answer my question dragon. WHY hasn't Fable Town responded yet? Perhaps the two sisters are done killing each other and decided to make up? Shouldn't they be taking action now.”

Tez looked at Gargoth like he was crazy then looked at the floor with a smirk on his face and said, “I was on a little vacation from Fable Town, needed a break, so I'm kinda in the dark at the moment. However I know some things.. I could could tell you, but.”

“Don't fuck with me dragon!” Gargoth as he slammed his fist on the desk. Then Olivia walked into the room with Mr. Weasel all tied up. It looks like it was his time to be interrogated.

“We're not finished yet dragon.” Gargoth to Tez as he orders his minions to escort Tezoth back to his holding cell. Oliva then place Mr. Weasel into the chair and offers him a cup of tea, but Gargoth smacks the tea cup off the table and grabbed Weasel by the neck in hoisted him up.

“Father please, you'll kill him that way!” Olivia pleading to her ruthless father.

“I've spent enough time in this room already! And I am not offering NO more hospitality until I get want I want. Now Mr. Weasel, since your dragon associate failed to give me what I need, may be you can!”

“I'm willing to cooperate, but if you kill me here then how would you know?!” Mr. Weasel struggling to gasp for air. Gargoth then put Mr. Weasel down and hears what he has to say.”

“You see, Gargoth. Lord Gargoth, the reason why Fabletown is taking long to respond is because, well...they're trying to find a way to kill.. and your daughter.” Mr. Weasel looking at the broken cup that once contained the tea.

“What? You lie, and how did the know Olivia was my daughter?” Gargoth staring a Mr. Weasel with a suspicious look.

“I lie to you not. I was in the room when they we're discussing a possible plan. But I didn't hear all of it of course....!” Mr. Weasel trying not to piss Gargoth off any further.

Gargoth then looks at his daughter, Oliva and then stares out the window, then transforms into his true gargoyle form.

“Olivia, you and Boogey are in charge until I get back.”

“But father where are you going?”

“It is time that I pay Fabletown a visit. It was foolish of me not to take care of them sooner, but now I will make up for that mistake. I will destroy Fabletown, then NOTHING will stop the reign of gargoyles. Absolutely nothing.” Gargoth as he flies out of the window waiting on a side quest the he regrets no finishing earlier.

Olivia looks and Mr. Weasel and thanks him for sticking to the plan and offer him another cup of tea in which he accepts of course.

“Madame, your father is quite freighting fellow. I not sure if there is a right word to properly describe him...” Weasel sipping up the tea like water on a extremely hot day.

“Nefarious.. is the word. And thank you again Mr. Weasel, I 'll have someone bring you and Tezoth a hot meal. There is something else I must do.. some one I must see.”

“But madame, what is he comes back? He almost crushed me!”

“He won't Mr.Weasel. I'll be back before then. There is someone I must see, Etan. I doubt he will be in the mood to see me after all, but if anyone can stop my father it is him. And that young dragon in the other room, his father should be coming for him any moment. So you and Tezoth be ready to escape, okay?”

“Of course, and best of luck on your journey, madame”

Oliva departs while after escorting Mr. Weasel to his holding cell. She is off to find the one person or Fable who is powerful enough to take on Gargoth. But if only she knew what her former lover was going through.

Meanwhile, Irene and Marco prepares to depart for Fabletown as Draco,Viera, Nisa and both Delphantez and Hati prepare to depart for the city to save Marcelo. When everyone prepares to leave Hati hears a strange howl that is coming from another world.

“Lord Hati, what is wrong?” Delphantez asked.

“It is my son, Etan. Over the last few days he kept on having these strange visions of him turning into a monster, killing everything. It's horrible..”

“Hati, if you need to go, no one will blame you. It looks like your son really needs you.”

“It's fine Delphantez. Etan is stronger. Stronger than me, he'll be fine. Let's go..”

And as our heroes continue their battles, a new evil prepares to sprout, and not knowing that it is one of their own..

  • Yeah, it's okay!

I don't necessarily hate Charming, although I do hate that he sleeps with tons of women like there's no tomorrow. He did find one he really loves (at least so far) in Fairest, the spin-off to Fables, so I guess he's sort of settled down once and for all. At least, that's how I portrayed him :) Even though Winter is wise beyond her years at this point that I've written it, and can sense when she's being seduced, she still kind of wanted it, and thought that what she was feeling was love, when it really only was in the moment. Charming has a way of doing that to people. Eventually I had a chapter where they saw each other again and it ended up in a sort of apology from him, and now they're on good terms for the most part.

I totally think Winter knows he's alive. She may have not told anyone of her siblings, but she definitely knows.

Something to think about in the future :) I'm still sorting out what I want to do with Isaac, his brother Mason, Elora and Anubis, Charlotte, Therese and Reynard, Harm's new set of cubs, Mary and her issues, Carter (I want to do more with him, but at the same time I'm happy with where he's at >.< I feel like an overprotective mother with him because he feels like he's my son, lmao), and soooo many more. • I haven't yet read Fairest Volume 3 but I do own it... Charming ends up with Nalayani correct?

Charming to me was a character whose development I appreciated a lot more than others. He starts out as this womanising sleaze who does everything he can to get what he wants; when he becomes the Mayor I started liking him more cuz he actually wanted to help Fabletown (although that moment where he and Beauty kiss... I can't forgive either of them for that :P)

But when he sacrifices himself to blow up the last portal, that's when my grudging respect for him turned into liking him for being so heroic. I still have to read Fairest, but apparently he kinda goes back to his old ways in the Volumes beginning.

Btw, if Winter knows Bigby is alive why doesn't she do something?....

  • Interesting to hear Gren's take on the who Beowulf thing; I've never actually seen or read that tale, so it's quite nice to take the - or your - "Fables" version before finding out the "Mundy" take on it. :3 It puts Thomas' actions in to a different perspective - he was no doubt hurting when he sent Gren away, and made the decision in a distorted state of mind. He sure took a while getting back in touch though, which makes me wonder.

Anyway, it's nice to see Vivian has found some happiness in a life after death! And the Superbowl! Was it the New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks?

    Prologue

    Some time ago....

Georgie laid in bed, eyes peeled and looking at the ceiling. The painting on the wall-a blasted, yellow pastal that Georgie thought was hideous-surrounded his bed and many on going thoughts. The sun began to rise just past the hills and mountains. Before long, the Rooster called out and the bustle of the home immediatly followed below. Georgie heard Nancy fumbled around the kitchen; he assumed it was Nancy, for he could not see John Smith taking the time to cook a hearty breakfast for all of them.

Soon, the girls would be up and the constant squealing, giggling and pretend play would take place. Georgie did not mind; he'd rather enjoyed hearing the girls create such imaginative roleplaying ideas and place them into their childish ways. Once he witnessed Gina and Carla create a shopping cart out of an old shoe box, old skate wheels and some twine. Georgie, cup of tea in hand, sat ammused and watched these two little girls play as if this was all they knew.

Georgie attempted to close his eyes once more; he did not sleep very well last night and had the constant thoughts of the town brewing deep inside his mind. Just the other day with John, Georgie was nearly attacked in broad day light by Gren. Luckily, John was there; Georgie knew his demise, should the powerful Wolf not have been his saving grace that day. Gren took out his pocket knife and began to weild it around, aiming for Georgie's heart and stomach.

"I'll finish you off yet, Georgie! You sick motherfucker! I hope they toss your ass down that well were you'll fucking rot!"

The Sheriff was called and Gren was taken away. All he'd get was some jail time and a slap on the wrist. Georgie feared for the worst and since than, he kept one eye open. But this was beginning to take a toll on the former pimp. Georgie covered his face with both hands and began to weep. Heaving, Georgie thought of all the things he did in the past: the club, the ribbons, Vivian, the girls he was told to 'take care of.' If he had the choice, he'd reverse the hands of time to that day and tell the Crooked Man to fuck off.

Things were how it ended and Georgie currently laid in a bed, looking now into the darkness of his palms. Every so often John or Nancy would try to ask questions in regards to the club and what took place; Snow and Bigby took their time to drive out and record Georgie's progress and secretly hope he was stable enough to return to the city and be a part of the community. A lot of the fables were ready to erase Georgie from the books and leave it at that: he never existed.

But things were different now. Georgie was indeed trying his best to restore the faith in his fellow Fables. He managed to get Snow and Holly on his side; Lawrence, despite having the most anger towards Georgie, took the time to speak to him for an hour. That was awkward and made Georgie very uncomfortable. The questions he asked. The answers he desired. He was trying his best but it never seemed to be enough. Except to one little girl. She was someone Georgie could never let down, even after all the 'bad' things he's done.

Georgie heard a tiny knock on the door. The giggling sound of his sweet little angel assured him he was indeed doing what was best. Forget the town for a moment, he though, as Georgie wiped his eyes clean. Fuck the rest. Fuck what they have to say. No one knows the truth and they may never. But it dosen't matter....it never did.

"Come on in, love." Georgie sat on the edge of the bed. "I'm awake."

The bedroom door swung open; a little girl with short, chestnut hair, pink pajamas and a missing front tooth leaped into Georgie's lap. She cuddled closer to his neck, beamed and squirmed against his grip. Georgie smiled and planted a kiss on the little girl's head.

    "Ya' be up early, love."

"I'm SO excited for today, Georgie!"

"And why is that Lyla, my love?"

"Remember?" Lyla eagerly points outside the window. "Daddy is taking us fishing today. You are going...right?"

Georgie had no desire, nor the ability to fish today. He and John were finally on good terms. He wanted to keep it that way. But Lyla always had the capability to drag Georgie into situations he normally would run from. Giving in to the little girl's smile, Georgie nods.

"I'll go fishin' with ya', love bug. Just let Georgie take a shower and-"

"YAAAAY!" Lyla wraps her little arms around Georgie's neck. "Thank you, Georgie! Thank you!"

Kissing Georgie on the cheek, Lyla jumps down and heads down the stairs. Georgie could hear the thuds and taps of her little feet heading down and into the kitchen. Georgie closed the bedroom door and began to peel his clothes off. Peering down, he examined the scar. It began to pulsate. Every time she was near, especially when her emotions turned into pure agony. This thing would react and begin to throb. Only in pain when Lyla was hurting, sad, angry or lost. The rest of the time, it felt more like a tickle. Ever since their connection when she was born. Things changed. For both of them.

Suddenly, Georgie's thoughts came to an end. "Georgie....." Three knocks. It was Nancy. "Are you awake, dear? I have French Toast waiting for you at the bottom. Better hurry before the kids or John eats them all."

"I'll be down in a bit, Nancy. Just gunna shower first."

Silence. Nancy knew than to stay her welcome. Georgie did not mind, although the sound of warm water dancing along his flesh was appealing at the moment. Breakfast would have to wait. turning on the water and standing beneath it, Georgie closed his eyes and pressed his head against the tile along the wall. It was cool and freshing to the touch. The warm water dripped down his neck, back and arms; Georgie was alone in his own santuary for the moment being.

Eventually, he'd have to step foot out of his own world and into the arms of the anticipated beings waiting for him at the bottom. Each time Georgie wanted to give up, he thought of Lyla and the fate they bestowed upon them both. If it was true and the Witch was right, Georgie would finally get all the things he desired and hoped would come in his favor.

Drying off, Georgie dresses in his usual attire, puts on his shoes and tops the entire outfit off with his traditional and tradmark Bowler hat. Smiling, Georgie leaves the bedroom and heads for the kitchen. He was unaware that it was not just the girls in the kitchen eating; Georgie turned the corner and found Malcom, one of John's loyal followers and assistants, savoring a slice of toast drenched with butter and syrup. The Wolf's amber eyes glared over and focused on Georgie, who was carefully taking a plate and sitting besides Lyla. She squeals with delight upon seeing Georgie.

"Hello Georgie..." Malcom sips from his coffee cup. "Nice to see you up and about."

"Malcom." Georgie did not want trouble. "How are ya' this fine mornin'?"

"Eh, been better. Council has been on our asses for the longest time now....takes a toll on a person, having the constant flapping of gums in your ears..."

"Oh..." Georgie already had an idea. "And woot does the Council-"

Malcom glares, mouth full of food. "You KNOW why, Porgie." His voice drastically became bitter. "YOU know why..."

Nancy notices the sudden tension between the two. Stepping in, Nancy grabs Malcom's plates and simply points to the living room. Without another word, Malcom sits up, snatches his meal and leaves. Along the way, he passes Georgie and begins to growl. Even the girls paused for a moment to stare at the massive man, now hunched over and eating the rest of his breakfast.

Gina pokes Georgie with her fork. "What did you do, Mr. Porgie? Malcom looks mighty mad at you."

"Gina, hush." Nancy sits in between Gina and Carla. "You girls mind your own and leave Malcom be. You KNOW he's cranky in the morning."

Georgie picks at his food. Suddenly, he lost his appetite. Lyla notices this and begins to cut into his toast. Using just her fork, the little girl makes a mess along the edges of the plate; her fork is covered in bits of toast, butter and syrup. She holds the cut piece up to Georgie's face, nearly colliding into his mouth.

"Eat, Georgie. You need to eat."

Mary chuckles. "He's NOT a baby, Lyla. He can feed himself!"

"He needs my help." Lyla leans in her chair. "Eat, Georgie. Here-let me help you."

"Lyla Jane Smith." Nancy looks over and cocks her eybrom. "What have I said about this?"

Georgie grabs the fork. "No, no....it's fine, Nancy." Georgie eats the piece. "Mmmm, thank ya' love."

Smiling with one tooth missing, Lyla claps and begins to feast on what was placed before her. The room is still and very quiet; the sounds of chomping, slurping and drinking could be heard amoung the girls, Nancy and himself. The meal was exquisite and Georgie could not remember the last time he had French Toast this tasty and full of flavor.

"Good?" Nancy pours more juice into her cup. "A little birdie told me you like these..."

Georgie smiles. "Uh, yeah....I like me a good French Toast every now and than."

"Well, I'm glad. You need to eat more. You're too damn skinny."

"This is how I always look, Nancy. Ya' know that..."

"Yes." Nancy wipes her mouth with a napkin. "I do know all the things you USED to do messed around with your stomach and appetite terribly. Doctor said it would take some time before you gained weight normally."

Georgie knew what Nancy was reffering to. He glanced over at Lyla, still beaming in his direction. Would she truly ever understand, this innocent little thing? Was Lyla really prepared for all the demons Georgie STILL had to face? The anguish? The hurt he caused? He was never proud of the things he used to do. Sometimes, Nancy reminding him secretly brought Georgie back on track.

    "I'll be fine, Nancy."

His answer seemed to please the house wife. "Well, I'm glad to hear that. John wants to see youn in the garage when you are through."

    "Will I come out alive?"

Nancy sighs. "Every time, huh Georgie? Yes, you'll STILL be alive."

Georgie inhaled the final pieces of his meal. Helping Nancy clear the table, clean and place the dishes into the washer, Georgie heads towards the garage. He passes by Malcom, still sitting alone in the living room. By now, the Wolf was through with his meal but was having a moment of silence. His eyes never left Georgie's side. Eager to leave his presence, Georgie nearly ran the rest of the way until he reached the garage door. Shirtless and preparing the boat, John leans against the railing and waves at Georgie.

"Over here, Porgie. Mind giving me a hand with these?"

Georgie climbs through the back and assists John with the ice chest, several fishing rodes and a tackle box. John fishes inside and takes out two very cold sodas. He hands one to Georgie; they both pop the top and watch the sun cascade along the mountains and hills.

    "Beautiful, isn't it, Georgie?"

    "It is."

"You are going today with us...right? My little Lyla has her heart set on seeing you."

    Georgie exhales deeply. "Malcom going?"

"Does it matter if he does?"

"Ya' see the way he fookin' looks at me, John. I can't BE in the same place as he fookin' is."

"You leave Malcom to ME, Georgie." John stands perfectly still. "Malcom is an asshole at times, yes but his heart is in the right place. Give him time. You'll see..."

"I hope ya' bloody be right, Wolf." Georgie leans against the door. "I'd 'ate ta' wake up and find him fookin' standin' ova' me with a knife and-"

"Malcom will never cross that line, Georgie. He's a bit unpredictable at times, yes but to kill you? He'd lose everything. Be cast out into the wild. Never allowed back into the clan or pack. He'd lose MY trust."

Georgie knew this to be true; Malcom had to obey John like a good dog should. But there are times the dog becomes hostile and refuses to take orders. Georgie did trust John. He agreed to attend the boating trip, however, there were some rules Georgie had in regards to Malcom. To make his guest feel safe and secure, John took them seriously and would tell Malcom.

Georgie let all worries slip away, especially when Lyla arrived. In her hands, she held the doll he had given her a year ago on her birthday. Lyla jumps into Georgie's arms and points to her fishing rod.

"I bet, I'll catch WAAAAY more fish than you, Georgie."

Georgie leans forward, pressing his nose against her own. "Ya' be on, little lady."

Giggling and taking Georgie's hand, Lyla leads him to the front. All the worries vanished like always when Georgie was aroud Lyla.
