Probably Pete or Nate. It's a tough call and I like each one for different reasons.
Pete, as much as he fought with Nick, did his best to impart his sense of morals and reality onto Nick. He had a lot of things he wanted to tell Nick, but Nick was too stubborn to sit and listen to them. He's also the only one who argues not to put Clementine in the shed, and even believes her if she honestly tells him that yes, it was a Walker bite. On top of that, until the end he holds onto his desire to protect those he views as kids - refusing to let Clementine smoke, agreeing to try and get back to the cabin in order to say his goodbyes to Nick, asking Clementine to look out for Nick and finally giving his life to buy her the time to escape. He was around for a short time but he was easily one of the most admirable characters in the franchise. It's nice to see from the discussion about revealing what happened to Matthew to Walter that that sort of high value for honesty that Pete had rubbed off on Nick.
As for Nate, well, as others have said, he's a completely different beast to many of the other characters. He sees the apocalypse as a return to the base roots of humanity and he's having fun with it. The guy seems to place a high value on friendship, considering he chases Wyatt down and then defends Russell, even going to the extent of trying to talk him into calming down if Russell starts to freak out while you're being shot at. Hell, if you pull a gun on him he STILL lets it go. A sociopath with dark humor means fun times, always.
Oh my gog, i don't know... Luke or Nick, Luke or Nick..? Maybe Nick... but wait , no, Luke! But there's Kenny too..! Oh Gog, no, no, deffinitely Nick! But... Goood!
I forgot about Christa! Honestly, I don't think we have a chance of seeing her until episode 5, so I didn't include her in my list (given th… moreat, if she's ok, she's not in any immediate danger). But my original playthrough is all about Christa, I can't wait to get some information on what the hell happened to her. I really hope she's fine...
In Season 1, as DomeWing333 said, mine is Chuck and seeing him in the sewers.. Lying dead.. with half a head..was depressing to all of us.
In Season 2, So far would probably be Nick I know this sounds crazy, but look what he's gone through, he had his uncle die, sure people seem to hate him because of the Matthew incident but, look what he's gone through, I don't know what I would have done if something like that happened to me.
Because we haven't seen enough of Nate to make a full comparison i feel like he is the games version of Merle Dixon. Merle was a jolly bastard that made the best of the situation he was in. Sure it was the fucking apocalypse, but that just gave him some more entertainment by to beating zombie-asses. In one episode he decided to get in a car, get drunk as fuck, turn on really loud music and drive the car into an enemy camp having a horde of walkers behind him. One of my most favorite characters ever, and i truly hope that Nate returns and gets more screentime this season so i can get a load of this stuff again.
I know this'll sound weird, but Nate, and I'm not even trolling. I guess it's just because you're placed into this world filled with death a… morend depression, with very little beauty and almost nothing left to live for, and then there's this one loud, witty, psycopathic character just cruising around the apocalypse and blaring music, which is actually what I'd do as well. I mean, sure he's sadistic and his humour's dark, but that's just him trying not to get dragged down by all the despair around him. Despite that, he does have morals- if you play as wyatt and leave the guy you hit behind, Nate is shown to have put him down in the credits, which means he wasted a bullet so someone wouldn't have to suffer anymore. Nate for the win, and I hope we see him this season.
As much as i like this topic it's really, REALLY hard to say, because there are so many amazing characters in this franchise and especially in the game because we get to know them even better. If i have to say one and one only it's probably gonna be Kenny. He's like this person who acts impulsively, tries to live in the moment and solve problems quick and efficiently. The thing is that he is like this sensitive and weak person inside. A person that needs as much attention as a child. He needs someone there to back him up on the mistakes he makes or the bad things he's said. He has made me //Feel so many times already and i doubt it will end here. He's the one person that has always been a close friend and has always needed a lot of help.
It just doesn't feel really the same way with having a really strong person go down or so, like Chuck. Chuck was a man that had the right kind of mind during the ZA and was very wise and strong. Seeing him lying there in the sewers was very sad, but it wasn't the same way of seeing clementine cry for example. Because he was ready for it, he was prepared, he could manage these things because he was strong and independent.
Runner ups for most loved characters are obviously Lee and then Pete, Nick, Luke and Nate. Reason for just these characters would be too long to write but long story short about Pete and Nick is just... oh dear.. "Look out for him, i love that stupid kid." That line made me feel so much.

In the lyrics of the song "In the pines" that plays after the episode there is a line that goes: "And his body was never found". Maybe something to do with Luke :P
Yeah they better, having him determinantly die in the same episode felt like either a test of our protection or a cheap way to feel. If he dies in the next episode regardless i will feel like the story is weak when such a promise is made and you could barely try and keep it. Even if it requires a shitload of extra work i'd wait months to keep Nick alive until the end depending on your choices made in every episode.

… more It made me feel so much too. I'm really hoping TTG allows us to let Nick live through the season so we can keep Uncle Pete's promise.
At the moment either Luke or Kenny. Lee was of course the first pick for season one but sadly he's dead
I like Luke, he feels almost like a big brother and that's after two episodes (around a week in the game I think).
On the other hand there is Kenny that was one of the central characters during the first season. Seeming him back makes me glad but also nervous with the state he's in.
First season (Other than Lee and Clem): Omid and Kenny;
Second Season (Other than Clem): Luke and Kenny
(CAN'T CHOOSE ONE)
On another … morenote, I knew Telltale was going to make me decide between Kenny and Luke one time or another and it was going to be hard... and it was...goddamn DON'T MAKE ME DECIDE BETWEEN THE TWO!! If I had to pick between the two in a life or death situation like the Carley/Doug one, I wouldn't know what to do.
In the lyrics of the song "In the pines" that plays after the episode there is a line that goes: "And his body was never found". Maybe something to do with Luke :P
My problem between luke and kenny was kenny was the one who lowered his gun first, and depending on the choice you picked.. kenny was the one who puts his gun down on the bench to. Really in all honesty, luke and the others where the ones being pretty rude. Kenny and "his gal" welcomed them in almost right away. Walter fed them to.
At this very moment I cant tell you who my favorite is, but I can tell you who my least favorite is.. and thats a tie between Carlos, Beck, and the juice box killer Alvin.
My favorite character until this episode was Pete.
I love the Season 1 characters too much to pick between them, so I'll throw out one of my favorite Season 2 characters.
Nick. I thought N… moreick was a good character even in Episode 1, but he wasn't my favorite then. He was a close second though, just behind Uncle Pete. What made Nick my favorite character though, the one who, if they died, my feels would explode?
Pete: "I love that stupid kid... you'll watch out for him, right? Make sure he's safe?"
That line made me want to protect Nick more than anyone else in Season 2. Pete was my favorite, and his dying wish was for me to look after his nephew. Thankfully, I managed to save Nick in Episode 2, but if he dies at any point later on, I might flip. I made Pete a promise, and I intend to keep it.
It ain't crazy.Chuck was the most beloved hobo of the year, and Nick is earning more fans every day because he's so sweet and he's so close to what i would be in the zombie apocalypse.Face it,guys,he's the most normal dude ever.

Oh...That line,it made everyone feel...Too much...My feels have been raped...
And i understand how it's hard to choose.I haven't made up my mind, either, there's just so much to love in all these characers! Why can't i hold all these feels i am having,i don't know what my feels are doing,THEY'RE CRAY!I can't choose...I think almost every character has some charm coming outta its ass,no matter how much.

I definitely have an unhealthy crush on Luke. I love him the most so far. (Lee will always have a place in my heart, too)
But yeah, besides that I have to say that I love almost every character (well, not Carver & his friends and all the messed up guys in season 1). I even warmed up to Rebecca during episode 2 and I can't bring myself to dislike people like Nick or even Ben (I always felt sorry for him).

I can only hope that when he goes down, he goes down with a fight.
I hope Luke survives. Not only because he's awesome and I like him but because I don't want Clem to lose yet another person close to her. I also hope Sarah makes it, she's just so innocent...

Thank God Kenny's gf is called Sarita and not Esperanza XD.
