Sarah and Other Glasses Wearing Characters

edited June 2014 in The Walking Dead

As anyone who wears glasses knows, you get your eyes checked occasionally to check and see if you need new glasses, due to your eyes changing. That would mean that people with glasses in the apocalypse would have pretty blurry vision :\ . I can imagine that easily becoming a nuisance to the glasses wearing characters. Also, if the glasses break they would end up being pretty screwed.

  • yeah, according to the preview, Sarah lost her glasses.

So she's somewhere out there scared, hurt, depressed, alone AND "blind" in EP4. In the middle of the zambie apocalypse.
    Poor Sarah, huh?

  • It depends on how bad their eyes are. My right eye is so bad. My left eye is decent, but still kind of blurry.

  • My vision is SO bad, I can't even read the text on this laptop (Without squinting).

  • Actually, I can see pretty fine without my glasses. It just takes a while to get used to not having them. Of course, it's much better to be wearing them, but depending on the case it shouldn't be too hard to get by just fine without them. I assume it's the same case for most others who wear glasses.

As a person who has worn Glasses for most of my life (since i was like 9...) And now am wearing Contacts (i'm 21 atm) I can also vouch that having poor vision and eye problems surely is a terrible weakness while a ZA. I'm as blind as bat when i take them off, and Contacts must be taken off each night for cleaning / refreshing. I, as well as many people with poor eye sight using Contacts/ glasses, wouldn't last too long without our stuff... i can just imagine me running out of Contacts .... lmao. GG ff@20 imdeadleaveme

  • I have glasses. If i cover my left eye, i can barely see anything. I see just colors and shapes.

I wear glasses and I've thought about this a lot. I have very bad vision, but I don't really need my prescription renewed much anymore. Just new lenses when they get scratched.

But yeah. I've wondered about it a lot. I also wonder what it's like for kids with braces. You can never get them off...

  • I'm just imagining someone with braces going on an epic quest to find a dentist who can finally take them off.

  • That would be hilarious, actually.

Telltale, make this the plot of the Season 2 DLC.

  • I wear glasses and without them i have bretty bad vision. Sooo, i would be fucked in a zombie apocalypse :/

  • I'm near sighted and need prescription glasses to see.I'd be fine as my eyes don't change much so I'd be good for a while until they change more.

  • Yeah, it's shitty.

Yeah, once you lose your glasses you're kinda screwed up...BUT doesn't blindness/lack of vision or having some kind of handicap like that make your other senses stronger? I wouldn't be surprised if Sarah improved hers XD

  • I usually wear contact lenses, but I have glasses. I think I can use pretty much any glasses with low power (don't know if that's the word), which means I'd just have to go robbing corpses should they break. The same would happen with most people, probably.

  • My vision is not very good, but not bad either, so I wear glasses only when I watch TV, use my computer or do something in the school. In the everyday life I can be without them easily, so it won't be so bad if I'll loose my glasses. And some circumstances can actually make your eyesight better, especially the zombie apocalypse, because you won't use any devices or read books that could make your eyesight worse.

  • I'd be SOOO fucked if I lost my glasses during the apocalypse.

  • Depends how bad their vision is. If it's somewhat weak then they'd still be able to see things in front of them, but they'd lose focus and wouldn't be able to read things close up (if they're far-sighted) or far away (if they're short-sighted).

We don't actually know how bad Mark/Alvin/Sarah's eyesight was, though Alvin's was good enough to see and shoot a guy in front of him without glasses on.

I thought this thread was about us naming other glasses-wearing characters in the TWDG. Boy was I wrong XD

All I can think of other than Sarah atm is Mark. Edit: Lee's dad, the bandits (sunglasses), Wyatt, Jean (old woman in 400 days) and Alvin

This aside, yea that would be bad :/ maybe if they found a glasses store and found their prescription?

  • 20 20, ftw

  • What if you had braces, and with most people walkers, had no way to get them off.

  • Alvin and Wyatt too.

  • I wear contact lenses so I'd be screwed after a couple of months when I run out. I threw my glasses away because I hated them and thought I'd never need to wear them again.

  • I've had my present glasses for 12 years now. I guess they'll outlive the zombie apocalypse.

  • If we ever have a zombie apocalypse I'm going to get one of those strings you put on your glasses to hold them around your neck. problem solved. Considering how many people have poor eyesight in this country, we'd be in trouble.

  • I have braces and it would be easy, cut the wire, slide it out, and leave the brackets on your teeth, if there's no wire or anything, it won't cause issues, may even help if someones trying to kill you and you have to bite them :P
