No problem, I knew people would have problems if I just gave the Russian quotes.

I don't know about "times have changed", because the last time I've seen a guy like that in an American production was the Rhino in "The Amazing Spiderman 2". Almost spot-on resemblance.

  • It is never stated that he is, he could be, but, given how shoddy was Telltale's work in depicting Russians, I'll assume that they chose a Finnish name and thought that it was Russian.

Well he could be from a mixed Estonian Russian family, thats not so unusual in Estonia, never seem a Russian named Arvo, he also seems to be

  • Yeah, I know. It didn't live up to the first film at all.

    Still, a good example.

I personally hope we'll (if we even will) find this out in some written source, or from Arvo, because I don't want Buriko (this guy) and Vitaliy (another one) to ever speak again, unless their accents get miraculously "cured".

  • I bet it's really hard to hear them speak for you. I would cringe too if they spoke my native language with an horrible accent.

  • Yeah, it is. I was amidst those who saw those videos with leaked spoilers, so I've already heard it.

By the way, what is your native language (if it's not English, of course)?

  • I guess I didn't spend time for shit in Russia for 2 years learning that lang after all lol
I understand everything. That was pretty awesome experience, you know. I dont think TellTale ever did this thing before so take it easy on them, will ya? Besides, do you really believe that is that so easy to find a native speaking actor in the US? Yeah right, I doubt that. I mean Hollywood can't and you expect that Telltale will? Nah. But at least they did it. And It was pretty fun. Which is good.
About Arvo thing. Arvo seems okay guy, with pretty odd name for a Russian, though. But the rest of his group, gosh. They like typical russians from "Sibir" with vodka and balalaika thing, you know.

  • I am French, but fortunately, french in movies or videogames are not often the bad guys :P, so I never had to hear an horrible french accent like that.

  • Oh, they did find one, his name is Michael Ark, he plays Arvo. And that's it. I reckon those two guys (Buricko and Vitaliy) won't be around for long, so making them speak authentically wasn't a priority.

And yeah, they are walking stereotypes, especially that guy Buricko, who looks like he just returned from Gulag.

Well, I can't even recognize my accent (and I have a pretty big one) but when they talked in french it did sound really french to me, so... I just think he was making a funny voice, that's a comedy video after all.

But the video was funny, "I fart in your general direction" was hilarious!

Edit: here, I found you the authentic ultimate french accent:

And this is a bad french accent for example:

  • I wanted one of them to call us a bunch of cykas. But that didn't happen :(

  • Yea, kinda like that. But still, even one actually eastern european actor is good enough. I'm usually dont play a lot of games, but the games I've played had just the worst eastern european accents -.-
Oh, about Buriko btw. I'm natively Bulgarian and I've met guys in Bulgaria with that last name. Dont know if Russians use them much, though.

  • You do know what "suka" (yes, not "cyka") is, right?

  • I actually hope they would just die off, at least that is the way for them not to speak anymore.

Well, if we would somehow team up with them, dont let them ever fucking drive.

  • I highly doubt Telltale actually has anything against Russians or intended to portray all Russians as exaggerated stereotypes. My assumption is that the stereotypical dudes are just red shirts who needed to shout a lot and then get shot, so Telltale didn't bother hiring someone who can do a convincing accent.

I'm not saying it's not offensive, I get where you're coming from, I just don't think Telltale meant anything personal by it.

  • В русском языке нет имени Арво ХDD И Мод тоже)У них у всех акцент в той или иной мере , кстати.Фразы их убили ,конечно , пиздец)TRANSLATION There is no "Arvo" name in Russia )And Maud either) Btw they all seems to have an accent , more or less. Their phrases are something xDD

  • Well, I wasn't going all like "OH, YOU DAMN BASTARDS! I HATE YOU FOR YOUR SHODDY WORK!", it's just something that bothered me.

I agree that they are most likely redshirts, so the only important characters are Arvo and maybe this girl, Maud, and thus, they weren't given a lot of detail. In fact, Arvo is the only one mentioned in credits, the other two (actually, three, Maud isn't mentioned either).

  • Я об этом написал, да. Если честно, то они жёстко напартачили с этими "русскими", один только Арво более-менее походит на русского, но им просто нужно было напартачить с именем...

I wrote about this, yes. To be honest, they really fucked up with these "Russian", only Arvo is kind of convincing as a Russian, but they just had to fuck up his name...

Arvo means value in Finnish, and is a name here too, so I nearly assumed that he would've been Finnish or at least Estonian. Anyways yeah I noticed that accent thing, as living in the middle of Russians I heard the difference

Seriously, why do Russians love to squat so much and wear track suits?

  • edited July 2014

Well, I don't know why. Maybe because they are copying gopnik-like lumpens back from the 90s, who were the main criminal force. I hear many of them wore sportswear. I don't know about why they like to squat so much, I personally was never able to do that for long.

  • Exactly! Why can't Telltale just have the voice actress create new sounds? I get so annoyed hearing the same shit over and over.
