Reconnecting with the past (My DLC idea)

edited August 2014 in The Walking Dead

Since Season 3 of Telltale's The Walking Dead has been confirmed, I assume we can expect a DLC that will help us transition into the new season. My (improbable) idea for a DLC would work as a way to reconnect to some Season 1 characters, depict another point of view during the events of Season 2, and finally transition to where Season 3 might take off.

My first candidate for a protagonist would be to play as one of Ben's classmates. I know it sounds odd but please bare with me. I think Ben's story before meeting Lee would provide for an interesting way to establish a new character while giving a sense of familiarity by having Ben appear in the story. Also, it might work as a way to disarm all the negative opinions on Ben and give more insight on his character. The first part of the story would start at the beginning of the outbreak, when Ben and his classmates were first exposed to the walkers. It would depict them surviving up until the point where the protagonist and Ben were seperated during a raid on their camp. A little while after the raid, our protagonist is left alone but soon captured by bandits. This is where we find out that our protagonist is the friend that Ben was trying to save by making the deal with the bandits. It will also show us how the deal was made in the first place. Though Ben thought his friend was dead, it would turn out that our protagonist managed to escape the bandits and leave Maccon as a result.

Part two of the story would take place around the time Season 2 started. Our protagonist, now older and more skillfull, is still trying to deal with the loss of friends and the hardships of the world. It would turn out that our protagonist joined Roman's group after his original 400 days group fell apart. This would allow us to see the events leading up to Roman's death at the river. After that, being the only survivor (or being accompanied by Victor if we gave him water at the river), our protagonist heads north. They will cross the bridge towards the ski lodge and meet Mathew one day before he was shot by Nick. Our protagonist and Victor (determinant) make camp for the night, when they hear shots. They follow the sounds of gun fire to the ski lodge just as Carver is holding the group hostage. They watch as Carver and his men finish rounding up the cabin group. A few days later, they arrive towards Carver's camp, seeing the aftermath left by the horde of walkers. Here we will we meet up with Tavia (and the surviving 400 days characters who were at the camp) who somehow managed to survive the horde. This will establish our new group. After seeing Carver's camp in ruins, Tavia and the other 400 days characters (determinant) talk about Carver, and now that he is dead, they reveal their true thoughts on him. Thus after some talk, Tavia mentions that its time to move on as the camp is completely ruined. Thus our protagonist, Tavia, Victor(determinant) and the 400 days characters(determinant) make their way towards Wellington. This would be where the DLC ends, and the wait for Season 3 begins.

Another idea for a protagonist would be to play as one of Mark's air force buddies. It would show how the air force base got over run by walkers and how our protagonist and Mark got seperated. It would also allow us to get more development out of Mark, seeing as how he was given a short amount of time with Lee and the group. Three months after the air force base fell, our protagonist is left wandering the forest alone. Our protagonist, then finds the abandoned St John's dairy and encounters the zombified St John's family which he puts down. While exploring in the barn we would find Larry's body in the meat locker. While scavenging in the house, we would see a legless walker. Upon closer inspection we would see that it is Mark. This would provide us with an emotional scene in which our protagonist would say goodbye to Mark and put him out of his misery, or would scoff at his unfortunate luck and leave him to roam as a walker. This scene would be different depending on the way we get along with Mark based on player decisions. After this, our protagonist leaves Maccon. The second part of the story would be the same as the one mentioned above, where our protagonist joins Roman and his group at the begining of Season 2.

My final idea would be to play as a former resident of Crawford in which we see the tyranny of Oberson first hand. In the first part we would see the events of Crawford before it was taken down by walkers, such as the weeding out of those who were considered burdens on the community (like Vernon and his group). We would also see our protagonist trying to escape as Crawford is ready to fall, and of course, we would see more of Molly since she was also a resident. Just like above, the second part of the DLC would be the same as described in both the Mark and Ben scenerio.

This is just my idea for a possible DLC. Though Telltale probably already has a plan, I thought it would be an interesting scenerio in which we would be able to reconnect with characters from Season 1. Please tell me what you think and add some of your own ideas as well. All feedback is welcomed.

EDIT: Thank you all for your feedback! It is great that my idea is being recived in such a positive light. Please if any of you have any ideas or would like to improve on mine, please leave a comment. I would like to hear what YOU think. Our voice is stronger if we all contribute!

  • I like the idea of the Crawford dlc. It'd be cool if your protagonist starts off as a blank slate like Lee. So your character can agree with Oberson and be a real asshole or they can disagree and secretly be against him. Maybe your character has a family and he's only doing what Oberson tells him too so that they don't get thrown out into Savannah. I'd like making difficult choices like do you kill this old ill man or do you set him free and put your family at risk.

  • I like the idea with Ben.

  • I would like to know what happened to Chuck in the past because he even says "seeing ANOTHER little girl die would just do me in." Who was this other little girl?

  • I was also thinking that playing as someone who met Chuck would be a good idea. However, Chuck seemed to be by himself for a long time so I am not sure how it will be able to be implemented. Any ideas?

  • I think this would make an excelent DLC. It would be nice to reconnect with season one characters. Personally, I like the idea of playing as one of Ben's friends. I think Ben's prequel story would provide a nice setting to establish a new character, especially given the bandit attack. I would like to see more of Mark and Molly, but I just think the Ben scenerio has more potential and action possibilities.

  • Some excellent DLC ideas here. There are so many possibilities.

  • a DLC tying loose ends.AWESOME.I don't think anyone loves to tie loose ends expect for the fans.

  • The Ben's friend idea is really creative, I'd actually love to play that.

The Mark's background DLC sounds awesome, I'd love to know more about him since he had such short screen time. I doubt Telltale would do it though :(

The last one sounds the most probable, as most of 104 revolved around Crawford's community. Some insight on that would be nice to see as well.

Haha Your ideas sound too good to top! Telltale staff should visit this thread and give their feedback. But since you mentioned Victor, maybe there could be a part where he hints at what happened to Christa?

My idea for a DLC was one with Lilly after the events of S1 EP3 that's 2 hours long. During the first hour, we see that Lilly is regretful about killing Doug/Carley and eventually finds refuge with Eddie and some other new characters. They eventually reach Wellington before Clem's group does and find that there are some communities there including Vernon's group.

In the second hour of the episode, Eddie does something foolish one night while smoking marijuana and accidently sets a building on fire. Lilly has a determinant choice to save him. The fire causes a massive invasion of walkers and for the rest of the episode, Lilly leads the city in defense against the invasion. And in the end, there is a big decision where Lilly can either sacrifice herself or just abandon the city as possibly the only survivor. Thus leaving a possibility for her returning in Season 3.

Or instead of Lilly, it can be the same story, but with a relative of Clementine. He/she coincidentally stops by Savannah and meets Clem's parents the day of the outbreak. Clem's parents tell him/her to go to Wellington and wait there while they go get Clementine. Then the second hour of the episode's story occurs.

  • I really like these ideas. Also maybe we could have one with Lilly if they don't put her in the final episode.

I think that, if they wanted to explore these points they would've done that in season 1. However your ideas are really good.

For this season's DLC we would possibly have other options like: Clem's time skip, Lodge group's time skip, the time when the cabin group fled from Carver's camp, Cabin group's time skip, etc.

  • Wow. Thanks for the support. I'm glad you like my ideas.

  • The ben idea is really awesome. You have thought this idea well. Maybe after escaping from the bandits main character finds doug or carley on the road as a zombie and had to kill them. This would explain why they were never zombies in 400 days as in never attacked Russell while he was on the ground.

  • Nice ideas.Hope they put them all in an another 400-1000 days DLC...

  • I think it would be fun to play as Lee one last time. The period between episode 1 & 2, the rescue of Mark, whatever else they ran into, would be amazing. Maybe even bump into a season 2 or 3 character who they lose and assume dead.

Be great to get the whole crew together one last time.

  • I agree. I would be so glad if this was the DLC. You should be a writer.

  • I think that three month gap between 101-102 would be interesting.

I think it's implied that they go to an Air Force base and they find Mark with a bunch of food.

That 16 month gap also sounds cool to see.

  • I think telltale should hire you.

  • If a DLC happens i think it should probably be something that's gonna bridge to S3.

The epilogue of 400 Days was to give us what to expect in S2.

S3 shouldn't exactly copy that but stick to the idea.

  • Yeah. I think a bridge to season 3 would be ideal. My idea was to provide a back story for a new character that would appear in season 3, like they did in 400 days. Except this time I think we should focus on one character instead of 5. That way, our character won't be determinant and will be involved alot in the events of season 3. I thought it would be interesting if a character we will meet in season 3 was someone who knew one of our group members before.

  • I think this would be a good DLC. Having someone who knew people we knew but didn't know about would make for an iteresting perspective. I like the idea of playing as a member of crawford.

  • They aren't walkers because they were shot in the head, duh

  • I'd wanna see a part where you play as Doug in the news studio where you save Carley from the walkers. That'd be really nice to see two fan favorites again.
