What determines who...?

Kneels down after Arvo shoots you? In my playthrough, Bonnie was the one who didn't want to leave me, and Mike saying that they had to go, but in other playthroughs, it seems to be Bonnie saying to go, and Mike seeming most distraught. Any idea what causes this?

Edit: Figured it out- if you help Luke, Bonnie is more distraught, if you only cover him, Mike is.
