I absolutely don't understand Mike and Bonnie
Spoilers ahead
What were they thinking? I understand that they wanted to get away from Kenny, but to leave Clementine with him? What the fuck? Why did they not even consider taking Clem with them? They clearly saw that Kenny was delusional and dangerous, so why leave the little girl behind?
I wish the game had more nuanced writing and choices, because as how thing are right now, even if you always tell Kenny not to hurt Arvo, to calm the fuck down, and tell everyone that you think Kenny is broken beyond repair - Mike and Bonnie still try to leave without Clem. And this is absolute bullshit. Same goes to Arvo, even if you keep protecting him and stand up for him every time, he still shoots you.
So how the fuck does this work. It's just illogical.

That scene was forced in and it shows. Just bad writing
Yeah, it's due to the fact that the game continually forces the idea that you're very close to Kenny, and I wanted to tell the group that I hated him several different times. It was a bit infuriating.
Because they knew Clem was close to him since she knew him for a long time and it'd be dangerous to ask her when she could shout for Kenny and ruin their plan.
Only illogical thing was when Mike was more worried about 2 stupid bruises on Arvo's face instead of Clem freezing to death.
Arvo hates Clem no matter what because Kenny communicates with her the most and she shot his sister which he didn't know if she was dead or not.
I think Arvo know that her sister already zombified.
Well either way, all people he knew died, he wasn't thinking straight and he had to blame someone for it. He chose Kenny and Clem, nothing we can do about that.
there is a difference between bad writing, and not wanting to program all that extra shit ya know
True, but you don't know which it was. The scene was out-of-context, especially that they trusted Arvo that much.
who told you that they trusted Arvo, would you leave him with an extremely angry guy, who had previously beaten him up? no i didnt think so, theres a difference between trusting someone and having empathy for him ya know
They gave him a gun. You don't give people guns who you don't trust.
I see it this way. They didn't take Clem because Clem don't see how bad Kenny's gotten. Since they've escaped Carver everyone in the group has seen Kenny's emotional state worsen. So this is why they decide to leave without Clem. She doesn't see Kenny is getting worse and they have no time to convince her otherwise. This is why the fight between Kenny and Jane arises also. Jane needed to show Clem what the others saw in order to get them away from him as well.
It's called bad writing and being OOC (Out of character).
Bad writing and conservation of programming resources are not mutually exclusive activities.
It's also illogical that Bonnie would leave AJ and Clem behind, out of the blue, without telling her. Up until that point, Bonnie is nothing but fond of Clementine. There's no reason why she would just abandon her without offering an explanation.
The problem is that you can take every single opportunity to agree with the other characters that, yeah, Kenny has lost it and you need to do something about it, and Mike and Bonnie still leave. My Clementine knew full well how dangerous Kenny was, and was doing her best to calm him down.
If anyone had given me the choice to eject Kenny before Mike and Bonnie had decided to leave, I would have done it. It just doesn't make sense that Mike and Bonnie would, not only abandon Clem and AJ, but take all of the supplies with them as well. They were basically leaving two children for dead. (Also, why the hell would they bring Arvo with them? What was their reasoning there?)
Didn't Bonnie say at the start of the episode that she'd do right for the baby's sake and that Rebecca can rest easy?
So much for that.
Seriously. So out of character.
I dunno about that. Bonnie's lied a few times in the past, remember?
More than anything else this season, Mike and Bonnie wanting to leave Clem and AJ stranded with Kenny and Jane made absolutely no fucking sense to me. It's one of several instances that made me question whether the writers knew what they were doing this season. It came out of nowhere and they provided no justification for it.
Yeah Bonnie has betrayed 2 times beforehand...so it's quite her character.
They didn't necessarily give him the gun, they were just dumb enough to leave the gun out in the open where he could grab it. Mike should have been holding the gun. I'm pretty sure it was on the seat, and Arvo was working on the car and when Clementine came out he grabbed it. It was dumb of Mike to leave the gun where he could have snatched it but that isn't the same as Mike literally handing Arvo a gun.
I'd like to think that if Bonnie and Mike actually went off with Arvo after he shot Clementine that they wouldn't allow him near guns for a loooong time.
Bonnie never struck me as a very dependable person.
And we really don't know anything about Mike at all.
depending on how you tried to save luke bonnie was pretty angry at clementine prior to this event if you talk to her after helping Kenny get the truck working she sounds pretty p.o. at clementine
I'm pretty sure they made Mike and Bonnie betray you for no reason to drive home the fact that YOU HAVE TO STICK WITH KENNY HE IS THE ONLY ONE LOYAL TO YOU.
Bonnie is a damn hypocrite
Bonnie: I know I lied to you but I swear on everything holy that'll never happen again.
Proceeds to take all of our supplies and leave in the truck with Mike and Arvo
Well it makes sense for me because in my play Bonnie had a little bitch-fit because I thought Luke would be better able to survive if her ass didn't go out and break the ice.
Can you tell I'm excessively mad at her?
Technically, she didn't lie to Clem in that scene :P
What she was trying to say was she'll never betray Clem again, and then betrays Clem again.
Bonnie had an extremely odd shift in attitude between the campfire scene and when Clementine chats to her outside of the house. The previously warm and compassionate woman who showed Motherly instincts towards Clementine and even chided the men for speaking of adult things in front of her, was offering her cigarettes and coarsely telling her she was off for a piss.
Bad writing? Yeah, I'd say so. Bonnie was markedly someone whose flightiness boiled down to her naiveté, but even her sudden change of heart didn't make any sense.
I felt like we discovered very little about Mike to really care, being honest.
I guess Mike and Bonnie were just too likable, so Telltale had to resort to bad writing and out of character moments to force that Kenny/Jane choice on us. I'm sure most players would've gone with the Mike and Bonnie we knew from Episode 4.
I've heard about this, but it didn't happen during my playthrough, so Bonnie's actions remained unmotivated to me.
I suppose it was like alot of stuff in the episode, playing against expectations, alot of people were saying that Mike and Bonnie would bite the dust very soon in episode 5 and I guess Nick Breckon was trying to find a more compelling way of getting Mike and Bonnie out of the picture, rather than killing both of them off, granted Bonnie can die in the lake, and to some degree I can see why Mike would leave, he never struck me as a guy that would get in the middle of a feud and would either stay out of it or chicken out.
Yeah, the gun was on the seat and Mike saw Arvo taking it without even thinking that it might be a bad idea to leave a gun in his hands.
Well, how well do you know Mike? Really? Out of all the characters who join you in season 2 he is probably the one you know the least about. So its honestly not that shocking that he is a bit of an asshole.
Bonnie has never struck me as reliable or trustworthy.
Her character was developed before that, she says herself back at Carver's "I chickened out".
In the end she just tries to save her own skin. I take it as an explanation.
It kinda make sense when you're Kenny's BFF, but when you're on
Bonnie and Mike's side and threated Arvo okay, it's just a huge dick
move from them...
It's all "Mr. No Speaka de English's" fault.
I was surprised too. They just left AJ and Clem with no supplies. That's a good way to make sure they die.
And they took Arvo! The betrayal!
How was it bad writing? The people were gonna leave because they didn't want to be with him and felt bad for Arvo, they didn't know if Clem would want to go and when they shot Clem they were too scared to think straight.
The bad writing part in my opinion was when it you were nice to Arvo and he still shoots you/starts a brawl between your friends and you and him and his friends. Saying you stole when even if you didn't
You speak the truth, imo episode 5 had even worse writing than Amid The Ruins.
The only 2 redeeming qualities that came out of that episode was the campfire scene and the ending, which was fucking fantastic.
