Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back

The finale of this episode pulled at my heartstrings in every direction. There was no escaping it. I've read a lot of unintelligent responses on the forums, but I want to have a logical discussion. Kenny or Jane?

Kenny: Hot-headed, Strong-willed, Defender

Jane: Cold-hearted, Survivalist, Manipulator

You got to see the best and worst of these characters, but who did you choose?

This was probably one of the hardest in-game decisions I've had to make thus far. I played through all of the endings, using different dialogue, and I think I would go with Kenny and refuse to go to Wellington without him on my main playthrough. On another playthrough where Clementine has grown cold, I'd have her go with Jane and refuse to help the group. And in another, I'd be somewhere in between, killing them both and going out on my own.

  • I hear you, man. I've been struggling with some of the same issues. After the death of Sarita, I moved forward with pretty much one goal (aside from protect Clementine, of course): save Kenny. I backed him on just about every decision but I also spoke up when I thought he was out of line (beating up Arvo, for example). I wanted to help him so badly, to pull him back from the edge.

When Jane showed up at the rest stop with that bs line about the losing the baby, I had a pretty good idea of what was going on and it made me really angry that she was provoking Kenny like that, knowing damn well that he was unstable. I did everything I could to end the fight and prevent anyone from getting killed and then when I was presented with that final choice [shoot Kenny] or [look away] I didn't know what to do. Ultimately I chose to shoot Kenny and to forgive Jane for what she did. Not because I don't like him, not because I thought he was too dangerous to live, but simply because I cannot condone murder. When I shot Kenny, though, in the back of my mind I was hoping that the shot wasn't fatal, that maybe he would survive the wound. And now that I know that he doesn't survive and that there is an ending where Clem gets to stay with Kenny and AJ, I don't know if I can live with my decision. Frankly, I'm not sure that my 11 year old Clementine would have had the heart to shoot Kenny with lethal intent or even at all.

I will say that I like Kenny more than I like Jane, but that really shouldn't play a part in my decision. I want to choose Kenny and I can forgive him for what he's done (in seasons 1 and 2) but I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of letting him kill Jane. I really am considering going back and choosing the [look away] option. Not because I approve of what Kenny is doing, but because I just can't bear to kill the man. So, I guess I really don't have an answer to your question. Sorry, I guess I just kinda ranted for a while :p.
