Was Carver still possibly religious after all this time, and after all he has done? We know he did not approve of smoking or drinking, as shown by the Vince scene in 203 and Bonnie's referencing to how she got the alcohol. Maybe he just thought people should be extremely health oriented all the time. I don't know.
