Season 2 was Kenny's story not Clem's

Removing Omid and Christa early in the season meant that outside of Clem our only connection to season two was Kenny. Everything and everyone Clem met was just there to push Kenny's story along, not necessarily Clem's. Personally I felt that Kenny's story was concluded in season one, he came to terms with his losses and even learned some perspective from Ben (determinant). Season two was never about Clem's struggle to survive with Lee gone as evidenced by the 16 month time skip. Clem was a tool to tell Kenny's fall to blind determination and his redemption by completing Lee's goal of keeping Clem safe (assuming the Wellington 'Shangri-La' ending is the 'correct' one).

All the characters Clem meets are tailored to fit with the Kenny story arc. Ignoring Pete, Nick, Alvin, and Sarah as they are just redshirts to up the kill count with meaningless deaths, the other members of the cabin group are designed to interact with Kenny and not Clem. Luke is the alpha male competitor to Kenny and never really becomes the brother figure to Clem, Rebecca is the substitute for Christa and only exists to add a baby to the story, and Carlos as the doctor is by default the only one who can treat wounds or illness despite Clem stitching her own arm and everyone alive after two years into the apocalypse never learning first aid tricks or tips.

Sarita is the 'girlfriend in the freezer' and her inclusion was a poor use of a female character. Having Carlos die in the same act she is injured ensures she dies and belittles both their characters. The game even wants you to maim her with the inclusion of Reggie and the walker tied to the tree at the dog camp despite what may have happened to Lee in season one.

Even Carver only existed to provide a parallel to Kenny's behavior and blind determination to keep AJ safe, and Jane was there as a struggle between the two insanities and not as a means to help Clem. Arvo's only use was as someone Kenny could beat up and added nothing useful to the story, despite the moral choice of whether you rob him of the medicine or not.

Everything ties back to Kenny, Clem didn't learn anything useful this season that could help her survive any future encounters. She never really learned to build a fire which makes her first fall into a river seem out of place when her second visit to cold water ensures that the other survivors build one quickly. She never struggled to find shelter or food, her brief time alone she found the canned beans easily and when she was bit was rescued and taken to a place with adequate supplies. And she never learned the value of trust or friendship as everyone was more or less killed off once they had contributed their part to Kenny's story.

Clem's real story is out there, it just takes place in the missing 16 months...
