Newbie Question: What are those 4 purple arrows?

Hi everyone!

Just starting with this game. Please forgive a newbie question about the interface: I just figured out the Q and E buttons. But what are those four red/purple arrows that occasionally pop up? Sometimes one of them has an icon of some sort in it. I'm guessing it's trying to give me an option to do something, but I don't know what and I don't know how to activate the option.

    So sometimes WASD moves you and other times it selects options. Oy. At least I know now!

    When the options pop up the you can use wd to move up and down and use left clic or enter to select them. Also you can use 1234 to select an option, but I guess you arleady knew that.
