A New Angle for Season 3

So Sean Ainsworth (cinematic artist for The Walking Dead) and Denis Lenart (game director), have said that in Season Three there will be a "new angle" for the story. Now this doesn't mean Clementine is ruled out, but what do you guys think? Will Clementine be a deuteragonist perhaps? What do you guys think this "new angle" for the story will be?

  • New angle? The first thing that comes to my mind is that we'll play as Christa(Or someone else we know) and clem will be NPC

  • Can we get a source of this information? I've seen a couple of people mention this but haven't heard it myself.

Maybe we will travel with Clementine, AJ and a survivor(Kenny/Jane) perhaps?

I'm mostly interested in the origins of the outbreak, but it seems like the comics have a monopoly on exploring anything new before the games can, and apparently the authors are not interested in exploring that.

Frankly I feel like the zombies are secondary at this point.

If we don't play as Clem herself maybe we will play as someone close to her position. Assuming Welligton is close to the town with the same name in Ohio and Howe's are in West Virginia maybe we will start out somewhere close to Columbus?

  • You can see it here

  • Which part? xD I only ever heard them say that there are ideas going forward for Season 3 and when they developed Season 2's endings they focused on making them good rather than the implications they'd have for the third season.

  • Oh, now I see, thanks! Well, I'd guess that means they're going to make Season 3 thematically different to Season 2 just as that was different to Season 1. Still holding out all my hope that Clem will be heavily involved. xd

  • This could be very interesting to play someone close to ours Clem that we have build throw S1 and S2 y have to say.... but still ym so sad about this

  • Idk maybe it'll be a new protagonist that meets clem and depending on how you played her is how she acts. I would like to talk to clem again as an npc like s1 but after she's been hardened and she's older. Still want her as protagonist though, but that's just an idea. I really doubt she won't be the protagonist, because if she's not she can't be in the game at all unless tt wants to make her different for everyone

I hope Sean and Denis aren't implying Mike and/or Bonnie will become the new protagonists. After the Luke incident, I have no sympathy for Bonnie whatsoever, and Mike's basically turned out to be Vernon 2.0.

Christa has more potential, since her story "broke off" from Clementine's at the very beginning of season 2, and could easily go in any direction from there. Maybe that's the reason Telltale never revealed her fate. We won't find out the consequences of our decisions at the end of season 2, until Christa runs into Clem again in the last episode of season 3.

(Lily is also a VERY remote possibility.)

All the same, I'm so used to following Clementine's saga, I just can't see myself wanting to hunker down with any other character.

  • I think he means new angle as in new themes. I don't think they'll change the protagonist since Clem's story arc isn't finished yet.

  • I like that idea

I hope Sean and Denis aren't implying Mike and/or Bonnie will become the new protagonists. After the Luke incident, I have no sympathy for B

  • We're gonna play as AJ.

That really could mean everything. Remember when TellTale staff were tweeting about #MyClementine, and everyone thought she was going to die? These are sneaky beasts.

  • It's gonna be Nate!

  • Maybe we play from within a community? Instead of moving from place to place all the time?

  • nope

  • A "new angle" hmmm perhaps we'll play acute instead of obtuse this time.

  • "I'm mostly interested in the origins of the outbreak, but it seems like the comics have a monopoly on exploring anything new before the games can, and apparently the authors are not interested in exploring that."
Kirkman said he was never gonna explain the outbreak

  • In his own words, it had something to do with just being covered so many times that we pretty much know how it plays out. As for the actual explanation for why the zombies are coming back from the dead, I think it'd be okay that we know how they work, but to explain the origin or cause of the outbreak would remove the bad hurty feelings we associate with it. Knowing the cause or giving it one makes it clear what needs to be done to end the monster. Even if the scope of the task makes it nearly impossible, it gives a glimmer of hope that is permanent for people who know. And we can't have that.

This is literally the same interview where they implied Clem to be in season 3.

4:26: Clementine isn't quite there.. Gotta leave some room for season 3.

  • This game will turn from third person to a RTS game similar to Project Zomboid.

  • I would like to see that Beard of his in Season 3, o3o

Nate is fuckin love, Nate is fuckin life "should we just kill these people and take their stuff"

  • Pssshhh...guys that just means their planning a new camera angle for Season 3.

  • Bonnie's a determinant character, she has no chance of being a player character. Mike would have been interesting (I don't consider him a "Vernon") but his character has been established as someone who will not stand for abuse, though Telltale might have use for him because they scrapped his determinant death at the last minute.

(Sorry if you know this by now, just noticed the thread was bumped)

  • "We didn't want to hit the same moments from season 1 in season 2, A lotta stuff thats been talked about in season 3, its really cool and different in a whole new way".

    Wonder what that means.

  • I'd play that game. Imagine the possibilities!

Clem: AJ, there's a herd over there, don't make a sou-

    [Cry]

    Clem: AJ, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-!

It'll have Telltale's signature "Choices don't matter" approach.

Clem: AJ, there's a herd over there, don't make a sound.

    AJ: ...

(?) The herd noticed your silence.

  • i think Shrek would be a great protagnist, imagine choosing between sparing some guys life, or beating him to death with an onion, that would be some deep storytelling

I honestly hope we get to play as a brand new character.
I'd like to play as a guy who once a member of Hell's Angels.

  • play as arccoon in seaosn 3

  • Yeah, I'd be happiest with Christa being the protagonist if we're not immediately returning to Clementine. Perhaps Arvo would make a cameo appearance.

    MWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

Goodbye Clementine, i love you as much as a sane person can love a fictitious character but you deserve to be happy so i won't make you suffer in S3.
    Time to bring crazy back.

  • I was gonna post this yesterday like it was big news, I had no idea it wasn't new :P Interesting though :3 Would new angle really mean her as deuteragonist though? It was my first idea too but we did that in S1 as Lee

  • Well what if they did it this way. Based on how you played S1, S2, it changes your "Clem's personality for S3. If you were a good guy , she gets all Emo like Nick. You have to take care of her. If you played the more violent loner character, she would be colder, more distant to people.

  • Vernon and Mike had reasons though. It's horrible, but the group admitted they'd have done the same as Vernon in Ep5. I'd be alright with Mike if we got to redeem him, but that would feel too much like Lee. Clem or Christa would be best out of established characters so far imo

  • It would be nice. Like the subtle swearing in S2, based on what Lee taught her. I actually would like to play as her mentor or ally, different to Lee. I like playing as her but it'd keep the game feeling new yet familiar so most fans enjoy it

  • I think this time they should just focus on maybe one or two characters instead of eight different characters. I also think they should increase the # of episodes from five to eight.

  • I think that there will be a new main male character, that will eventually meet Clementine. And I think that Wellington place maybe wasn't that great as they thought.
But also, maybe we will then find out what happened to Christa. And get a better picture of the whole situation in general.
By the way, I had the ending where I left with Kenny and the baby.
Also I can imagine that we see a more grownup Clementine and Alvin Jr.
