Did we, the player get hardened?

edited September 2014 in The Walking Dead

I just wanna mention this, and since its not really on topic with any other threads ill just make one.

I just replayed season 1, and i couldnt help noticing i would make very different choices now as i did in the original playthrough. Lee is a nice guy. And understandably since the ZA just started, he is trying to keep the moral highground on lots of cases. But playing throughout season 2, and realising how Clem toughened up and such... I tossed Lilly on the street amongst other things, something i wouldnt have done before playing season 2 im sure.

So, i guess this game changes us as much as it changes the protagonist. You guys agree? Disagree?

Not here to start a big thread, i just found it interesting.

  • I agree , because it's true.
The situations affect the player and the protagonist.

  • Yeah, i find it a nice detail about these games. Never expected it to really change me personally.

  • Telltale are magnificent when it comes to these things , probably why it's my favourite game of all time.

Well I don't think I've changed much, I mean my choices remain the same for me, I could never toss a group member under a bus.

  • I think it's a credit to the game's writing that we as players have actually hardened with Clementine, sharing her emotions and views after seeing so many characters bite the dust.

  • At first I was kinda a Kenny guy, in the sense that "Well this guy was an asshole so he deserves to die, but then Luke actually made me much more moral and because of some of the stuff he said, I have changed in real life and now I am against the death penalty and torture and all that. For awhile I was the "Lets save everyone even if theyre a dick becuase its the right thing to do" kind of guy but after being with Jane I realized that it isn't worth risking your life for someone who doesn't matter much to you, and that you can't always save everyone.

  • Season 2 definitely had a lot of "trust no one" and "no one is safe" messages.

  • i was less personally invested in season 2, clementine isn't me (lee was), so i was more playing a story than doing what i would do, plus there is really less chance to be good in season 2, i was never full bad, but i just went for survival more than anything.

  • Yeah i felt the same. I was Lee, not Clem, but still now replaying season 1 with Lee made me more grim and dark, survival oriented. I hope we get a new Good person as a protagonist in s3, if its not Clem. So i will feel a bit more like myself :P. I dont prefer to be a terrible person, but the ZA sometimes requires that of me :P
