Season 2 a lot weaker than Season 1?

  • I agree with you, except about Clementine's voice acting. I absolutely loved season 1. I've replayed it a couple of times because I miss it. Can't say I've done the same for season 2. I loved how in season 1 I got to know characters more and explore my environment more. I was devastated when duck was bitten and katjaa killed herself. I was so sad when Carley was shot because of her blossoming romance with lee. I was crushed when lee got bit and died.
I feel like there were a lot of unexplained gaps and lack of character development in s2. The death(?) of Christa's baby, how kenny survived/escaped in savannah. I also really wanted to interact with the 400 days characters more and know what happened to them. I wasn't really affected by any deaths in season 2 due to the lack of character development. Didn't get to explore my surroundings as much this time around, unlike season 1. It felt like this season was done in a rush or something.

  • Yeah, i just don't understand why they took out so much (or I should say did not design the game to allow for more character interactions)

I work for an IT company (not gaming) so for me it's really hard to understand. It's not THAT much more work

    1) record more voice over
    2) add point of interaction (with npc/object)
    3) play the said voice?

It just seem like they were lazy and made it a lot shorter. (like dragon age 2?)

  • I hadn't played season 1 then ep2 of this season would not nearly have as much emotional depth

What part of 'Season 2 is a sequel' you dont understand?

He's actually got a point with some of them, if I hadn't played season 1 then ep2 of this season would not nearly have as much emotional depth

  • Kenny always exploding in anger.

    Yeah, rigth. Of course.

I am being sarcastic, by the way. In case you don´t get that.

    Nothing connects him to Clementine.

    A old companion.

A reminder of the days of Lee after she lost Christa and Omid.

    He cares about her.

    He puts himself above her.

Not enougth things connecting Kenny to Clem for you?

S2E2 to S2E4 is almost a complete blur of meh, did something happened that I should care about?

    S2E2:

    Carver is introduced.

    Sarah chapter development

    Nick kills Mathew.

    Kenny got lucky, real luckly.

    Walter gets killed.

Carlos gets tortured in front of Sarah.

Carver attacks and kidnaps the Cabin Group at the Moonstar Loodge.

    S2E3:

    Howe´s Harware.

    More Carver chapter delopement.

Carver forces Carlos to slap Sarah.

    Reggie gets killed by Carver.

    Alvin gets tortured.

    Luke returns.

    Clem steals the radios.

Kenny gets beaten and nearly killed by Carver, and loses its eye.

    Jane is introduced.

Carver gets brutally killed by Kenny.

Jane shots Troy and leaces in to be eaten alive.

    Carlos dies.

    Sarah screams and runs off.

Clem gets lost in the herd.

    Sarita is bitten.

    S2E4:

    Sarita dies/escapes bitten with Kenny.

    Clem gets lost.

    Rebeca chapter development.

Jane shows the first signs of her attachement to Clem.

Clem talks to a almost suicidal Kenny.

Jane and Clem head off looking for the group.

    Nick is dead.

    Sarah dies/Sarah gets saved.

Clem nearly gets bitten/Bonnie nearly gets bitten.

    Arvo is introduced.

Rebeccas has her baby in the middle of a walker attack.

Sarah gets eaten alive if she was saved.

Rebecca looks pale and weak, and the decision to think first of the group or about her. (Leave tomorrow or leave in a few days)

    Rebecca dies and turns.

    Gun figth with the Russians.

  • I prefered Season 2. I got way to attached to Clem this season (hoping we get her in season 3) and I loved the way we got to see Kenny evolve from season 1. I think that season 2 was a lot darker. Both season's had there flaws!!!

  • Episode 2 is my favourite in the whole season, it's just a sad reminder however of wasted opportunity.

I thought episode 2 was one of the best in the series, but yeah it does seem like a rerun. By the way did anyone die for you in episode 2? B

  • If you're saying that the people who think Season 2 is worse than a 7.8 is an idiot then you need to actually learn about what makes a game an 8-10, then replay season one, then replay season 2.

If you're saying that believing Clem's voice actress is different is dumb, then you need to learn how to structure a sentence.

  • You're not alone with how many people feel about Season 2.

Season 2 reeks full of missed opportunities and wasted potential. The quality of Season 2 could have been just as good, if not better than Season 1...except it failed to live up to its title because of the lack of passion and heart put into the game.

The episodes continues to be short and lacking the amount of content found in Season 1, the characters continue to become walking plot devices or receive minimal character development before their untimely deaths and are soon forgotten afterwards, and our choices until at the very last moments of the game affects very little to the plot or the character's behaviour towards Clementine.

As a standalone Season 2 is a decent zombie apocalypse experience, but when compared to its predecessor the game's overall quality has disappointed a fair amount of players, myself included.

  • I mean that the only time Kenny cares for her is in Season 2 when his old family Duck and Katjaa and his old friend Lee are already dead. I don't even know if he cared for her in Season 1 truthfully because he can flat out refuse Lee's plea for help in finding Clem.

i did not buy this game because of point and click nostalgia.

i wanted a compelling narrative and was not disappointed.

i would not call season 1 bad. but it seemed to me too predictable. it was obvious lee would get bitten and sacrifice himself for clem. all before that appeared to me just like filler.

there where nice moments, like the bell and the end of saint jones. but the way you get to that point was just ridiculous.

the entire drama in the final episode could have been avoided if lee where not such a fucking idiot. to let the girl believe for months her parents still live and then bring her to the city she thinks they still can be found in? to even think for a second there is a chance to get a boat? the same could be said about staying in the motor in, or preventing clementine from eating instead directly from being eaten.

how did people get so attached to that irresponsible idiot?

being clementine was a nice change.
we seemed to be given far more liberty to define who she is.

i do not know what problem you had with clementines voice. i was rather annoyed by lee's permanent often inappropriate whispering.

season 2 was an adventure trough and through. there was not a single moment i was bored.

the characters were far more interesting. and did not just seem to drop in do that one thing they where supposed to do and then die, disappear or fade into the background.

  • I enjoyed Ep. 1 and Ep. 2. Kenny wasn't the main focal point of everything like he was in Ep 4 and Ep. 5. Nick Breckon (writer of Ep 1 and 2) had some great storylines going with Nick and Sarah and I personally believe that initially more was intended of them. Ep.2 had some great choices because you could decide the fates of Nick and Alvin. So much more could have been done than them being tossed aside.

Episode 2 is my favourite in the whole season, it's just a sad reminder however of wasted opportunity.

Anyway this season for me is good. Not too good but it's not the worse one. Hopping they do better in Season 3.

personally, i was on the edge of my seat through s2e2-s2e4. i wanted carver to die sooooooo bad. clemmie shows alot of groth through this period. im not suggesting she actually grows that much in a week, but its the week where she has the opportunity to demonstrate it. i think the OP mightve missed/not been focused on that growth, accounting for clem's change in vocal tone. it only makes sense that she begins to lose her "gee, mister" cadence.

also, especially if you played through s1 and enjoyed it, i dont see how you werent expecting a game that was at least 80% picking dialogue choices. im glad they did away w/ alot of the point and click aspect. there wasnt enough depth there to be interesting. spacequest v and monkey island were a blast, but this aint that. the focus is elswhere. i say kudos to telltale for streamlining and focusing on what they had that was gripping and unique (namely the most and perhaps only truly effective interactive video story ever.) i didnt have alot of fun with "find tool, use tool on broken thing" or "locate obvious key, insert into only locked door.

  • As much as I agree on character interaction, you don't need to know a person's life story irl to care for them, let alone a game, Also, I don't really expect people's screams to be very different much

  • Filler? That just sounds silly though. Also really? Lee was inexperienced with parenting but the point is he did his best and kept her safe

  • While I loved Ep. 5 (it had actual character development and a lot of other good moments) Season 2 overall was weaker than Season 1 imo. It wasn't bad, but had a lot of wasted characters, plot inconsistencies, lack of character development and generally felt a bit messy.

  • I agree S2 Didn't have the same feel as S1. The thing I likes about S1 more is that it has more interactions. And also beacause of this:

S1 being better than S2 is the general consensus on the forum as far as I can tell.

The relationship between Lee and Clem in S1 was something special. You don't often get such a pitch perfect tragedy playing out in any form of media, let alone video games.

There isn't any powerful meaningful relationships at the core of S2 the whole season comes off a bit shallow in comparison.

I really enjoyed S2 but it's not special like S1.

    i agree season 1 is better but i wouldn't say season 2 is a 6/10 i would say it is a 8/10 or 8.5/10

btw clem's voice actress is the same for season 1 and 2 she is just made more emotionless cause it is meant to show her moving away from that sweet little girl image

  • I agree with you.

S1: Lee could lead several discussions with the group. There were times beautiful moments with Lee and Clementine. Lee was always the quiet type. He never seemed tense. Lee was able to solve all problems. I miss you Lee.image

  • While Season 1 is a better game, Season 2 is a better show. Because of how fast it takes to get to the next scene, the pacing of Season 2 is overall superior for an audience to watch, instead of sitting through someone examining little details and back-tracking to find the solutions to a puzzle.

  • And this is why episodes should be at least 3 hours long.
