Kenny's mindset on his s1 sacrifice

I'm replaying the first season and I saved Ben. Later on, Kenny sacrifices
himself to help him, but there's a few things I still don't understand...

Why not just ending Ben's sufferings and then leave? He made a speech
about suicide not being the right thing to do moments before Ben falls,
he had no intentions to kill himself then, right?

I mean, his 'death' when he saves Christa is heroic, but the Ben scenario,
despite being touching, is mostly confusing and contradicts his own speech.

Did he decided to die after all, but changed his mind at the last minutes?
Maybe Kenny accidently survived? Can someone explain the situation to me?

  • Keep playing into season 2...

Also Kenny kind of wanted to die at that moment.

  • Could it be that he wanted to keep the walkers away from Ben
and didn't wanted to argue with Lee?

Ben says : "Oh god, don't let them get to me!"

Maybe he thought he could keep them from reaching Ben,
but decided to shoot him because there were too many
for him to kill. He even asks for bullets.

  • Thats also true, honestly in tense situations you dont think clearly.

A reason Lee got bit,Kenny sacrifices himself, why Carley died.
