A final thought, in regards to the Kenny vs Jane argument.

edited September 2014 in The Walking Dead

I only bring this up, cause I keep finding posts about it.
Even now.
Or post similar to it, in which one of characters is criticized, or portrayed as a monster.

And I gotta say, that that whole discussion is completely pointless.
A complete waste of time.
We all made the choice that we as individuals felt comfortable with.
We played the game how we wanted, which was the one the main points of the videogame.

And yet, I'm surprised that people feel a need to defend their choice.
And that others often respond with rude and hostile comments about another's choice.
C'mon folks, it only a videogame!

It's not real life.
It's just a game.
Why bother defending the choice you made?
And why belittle the choice of another?
"Can't we all just get along?"

How many of you agree with me?
And do you have any similar thoughts?

DISCLAIMER: This is NOT intended to start more arguments, on this subject. So please don't start any!
The reason I made this post, is so that we can put an end to this discussion, and others like it.

  • I agree with everything you've said. This forum used to be a good place with good people. I used to enjoy coming on here and interacting with fellow TWD fans. As a result of all this Kenny vs Jane nonsense I haven't actually been on this forum much of late. It depresses me that people get attacked for having an opinion, but this is the internet after all so I'm not surprised.

  • We need the mods but they're all gone

  • ikr, i don't like seeing people getting banned, but they have to ban some people if this forum will ever rise again

  • Hoping this Kenny vs Jane dies off soon. -_-

  • What happened to them? I haven't seen them in weeks

Why bother defending the choice you made?

    Because is mine.

    And because threads like this:

It's like putting a diseased animal out of its misery.

    Are completely serious.

And why belittle the choice of another?

That´s the reason this whole Kenny vs Jane thing is lasting so long; because is a very divisive and hard choice, and that people shit all over what you did does not help matters in anyway.

    Thank you.
It's because this whole damn-stupid bickering back and forth over this issue, that I've actually thought about quitting this website for good.
I'm sick of seeing people going on about these pointless debates!
As well as reading rude and belligerent comments about Kenny, Jane, or other users.

I like how you only focus on the horrible thread against Kenny when threads have been made saying Jane fans should be hung, that they are dirty, and that they are bad people.

Put on some clothes, your bias is showing.

  • The best way for people to stop talking about it is to do exactly that.

This thread just fuels the hate fire and persecution.

  • They are around, just not nearly active enough due to the fact that they're volunteers.

They're doing the best they can, with the forum rules as they are, but in all honesty paid mods like they have on the bioware forums are the only way we can solve this horribleness.

Telltale are used to being a small company who can rely on just having one or two volunteer mods. But they need to recognise that that is no longer true.

Is the only horrible thread against Kenny, but the sentiment expressed by that thread is one very common in Jane fans, so don´t even start with that shit. Don´t act like you have not see nearly every Jane fan calling Kenny a 'mad dog', 'a diased animal', 'a rabid dog' and saying that Kenny had to go.

that they are dirty, and that they are bad people.

    Holy shit, really?

Put on some clothes, your bias is showing.

    What about your bias, Flog?

  • Sir or Ma'am, when I made this post, I specially said that I DO NOT want anyone else to argue about this.
    So please don't.

Flog started it. And I am not even arguing about the Kenny vs Jane thing, so I don´t see a problem. Besides, is obvious Flog is not going to answer so this is not going to become a problem either.

  • My point is, it takes two people to fight, and you don't have to be one of them.

There are so many Jane/Kenny threads because people feel the need to justify whatever choice they made. No matter which scenario goes, you have made Clem murder another human being. You murder Jane by not shooting Kenny. You murder Kenny by...well... shooting Kenny. And not only another human being, but a close companion of Clem. People feel like they need to justify their choice because they know killing another human being like that is wrong, no matter what. Jane was wrong to hide AJ from Kenny. Kenny was wrong in resorting to violence instead of reason first. Fact is, it's all subjective and people will keep arguing that they were right because inside they know that there was no "right" decision.

As a new guy here, I was pretty stunned to see the KvJ threads. I did not expect that from the ending at all. I didn't feel comfortable with the ending, any ending - I found it didn't fit for me and I thought nobody could really choose between Jane or Kenny in such a black and white way. For a game that historically has explored so many shades of grey, I didn't expect that. Like there's a good guy and a bad guy? That's just not this game to me.

I loved season 2 but wasn't fond of the ending and one of the reasons I came here was to read more about it. Now that I've seen how divisive it has been and not in a good discussion way but in a weird Kenny Cult and Jane Cult kind of way, I'm even less fond of the ending and hope that, from here on in, Telltale stick more with the shared experience we had with season 1. A stronger ending that couldn't be discarded so easily and one that we all share a part in together. Like one happy survivor family.

So yes, I agree with the sentiment of this post wholeheartedly.

When people have a strong emotional investment in a decision they have made they go through cognitive dissonance when anything, even evidence, suggests that their decision wasn't the "best" or "smartest" decision. When both decisions were actually good ones it's common to attack the other choice so as to artificially inflate the value of the choice that was selected.

Please see Chevy vs Ford, 360 vs PS3, SNES vs Sega, and other such things.

    Bottom line? People are dumb.

  • Of course people want to defend their choices if someone tries to tell them that they're wrong. I think that's that natural. It's just such a shame that it gets so personal sometimes.
