Depression/Feeling sad after playing The Walking Dead?

Of course I got really sad too. After beating Season 1, I couldn't sleep at night because I just kept crying in my pillow. And in the end of Season 2 I cried two times in a row (I got a Jane ending first so I cried at Kenny's death but then I rewinded and this time I cried at Kenny's plea to Clementine) and I felt emotionally broken. But when I woke up in the morning, I felt absolutely fine. Being emotionally invested in a videogame is great but don't forget that after all, you have to let it go because it's just a game.

  • Honestly for me ....Season 1 depression, nice story plot..., season 2 roller-coaster of epic failure

    Keep your spirits up.

Thanks man. I'm feeling a lot better in the past few weeks. I'm finally back to my old self. In large part to the community for being so awesome.

  • Lol well people who rush through the whole season in 2 isn't going to be as sad as us players who waited while each episodes released.

since during that wait, we grew attached to all characters and some deaths hit us (MY HUSBAND, MY GIRL) harder. But idk telltale knows no bounds at all and will kill just about anybody so if character deaths affect you then you shouldn't play s2.

And yeah we all get depressed, shit i got super depressed after episode 3 and 4 month after month. Maybe 3 months total. But episode 4 was the cherry. like i was on the ground angry at telltale because they hired shit writers but baby that's for a different topic.

If you go through with this, you should play all episodes except for Amid the ruins (episode 4) do not support telltale for making such bad content and watch it on youtube. Choices don't matter anyways lol

  • because they hired shit writers

You understand insulting is against forum rules, correct?

Aw Hollay, I didn't know the game made you depressed, I'm really sorry to hear that :(..I mean I knew you were kind of sad when we talked sometimes but I didn't know why. I hope you're feeling better now, if not, we can always talk about it if you want!:-)

Honestly, after Playing Season 1 I had a minor bout of depression. I was pretty sad for a few days afterwards. And after beating Season 2

  • I played The Walking Dead Game as soon as the last episode came out so that I could play it all at once, I killed Lee and that has given me severe depression and it has made me unable to do certain activities without shedding a tear or two about killing Lee, not only the fact that I killed Lee makes me sad, but everynight I look up at my computer screen and see Clementine hugging Lee and that just makes me realise the world that Clementine is living in, I sit here and i do school and i get to drink energy drinks and she lives in a zombie infested world where she doesn't even get to ride a bike....

I would recommend that you buy Season 2, because in my opinion it was more focused on survival and it didnt make me connect to any characters except for a few that I really liked, I did cry at the end of season 2 but that was because someone I had spent the entire season with made me kill them.. Which gave me even more of a sadness because it reminded me of Lee and that Clementine has had to kill many people that she has cared about, or witnessed someone close to her dying, I mean for fuck sake she saw her parents dead when she was 9 years old.. Dragged a 37 year old man who was passed out so dead weight into a garage, nearly got killed by a zombie then either shot her fatherly figure who had helped her through the 3/4 months of the zombie apocalypse in the head or walked away as he turned into a zombie.. Clementine is the strongest person in the world and I love her with my entire heart.

Aww you're so sweet girlfran! :D I'm feeling much better now. :)

And I didn't exactly know I was depressed because of it until a few weeks ago, when I stopped working on my fanfic and realized constantly thinking about the game and universe of the Walking Dead was seriously bringing me down. ;A; I just got way to emotionally invested in the characters and felt a bit embarrassed to say anything about it, since more people would say, "It's just a game, they're just pixels!" But sometimes to really feel the whole experience a game has to offer, we have to look at it more than 'just a game.'

But like I said, I had a lot of other things going on the the End of Season 2 pretty much did me in. But I'm better now! :)

  • That's good.:)

Well, I know exactly how you feel then. I usually get pretty emotionally invested in the games I play, as well as the tv shows/movies/books I watch and read, so I often get pretty sad for a while after watching/playing/reading something that's particularly emotional. But then I go and say that if it's ripping my heart out, then that means it's a very well written story, which I appreciate, so I'm always seeking out those kind of stories. A little masochistic now that I think about it..lol. We can be sad together next time you get sad for sure, because I'll probably already be sad about something. XD

aayyyy, that's awesome to hear girlie~:D

  • That is stupid. It's flat out wrong. There is such thing as levels of depression. If he suffers from it normally, but is then crippled by it as he describes from the game, than he shouldn't play it.

They have it anyway, doesn't matter if he plays or not, something will bring him down. COD could depress someone with that.

  • That is stupid. It's flat out wrong.

Well, thanks for such a great opening, really makes me want to read the rest of your comment.

There is such thing as levels of depression

Yes there is and I suffer from extreme depression, I know the levels it can get at and I know what can spark it.

If he suffers from it normally, but is then crippled by it as he describes from the game, than he shouldn't play it.

It can get crippled by anything including COD like I said, those things are triggers. He will experience it one way or another and people saying he isn't mentally capable of handling this game is flat out insulting.

I can see why this game can depress people, and why people who suffer from depression shouldn't play it. Here is why. This game revolves around building up relationships, and then destroying them usually through death over, and over again. People who suffer from depression often times fixate on negative thoughts or emotions. Playing this type of game can amplify those thoughts. Another primes example of why saving some of the characters should actually result in some of them leaving the game in a positive way. Example: Your group comes across a group of survivors passing through. If you had saved Sarah it would turn out to be some of her relatives. She leaves with them.

  • So if a woman is raped, and sometimes gets flashbacks would you encourage her to watch movies with rape scenes? I mean after all she will get flashbacks anyways right?

I never said he wasn't mentally capable. If someone told me cupcakes upset their stomach I'd tell them they probably shouldn't eat cupcakes.

  • What does rape have to do with this? Did the OP get depression from watching their friend or family member get eaten alive? No.

You are grabbing at nothing, I have the exact same thing as the OP and I know how he feels, I don't think you do, do you? The big thing is that you will get depression anyway, it's not the same as flashbacks to rape...

The thing is though depression is different than cupcakes.

  • They're not forum members, but they're staff members and I think it says pretty clearly in the rules that you can't insult them either.

1.1 R-E-S-P-E-C-T! We're all here to have fun, so be cool to each other. Always behave respectfully towards other community members, moderators and Telltale team members. Insults, hate speech, platform wars… leave it out. If you feel especially slighted by another forum member, use the "Flag" button to report their comments to moderators instead of shooting back!

And I'm not whining, I'm simply telling you that you can't throw insults here and there, because that's against the rules.

  • It's an opinion, if you don't like it then honestly I really don't care. Their writing was literally shit and a waste of $5. I purchased the content so I have every right to express my opinion and feelings of it.

If people are this honest then most people wouldn't make mistakes. This person is asking for opinions and I'm giving them one.

There's always a flag button rather than starting your little drama like usual. But it's honestly nothing new at all.

And also if mods have issues with me and others expressing those type of opinions then it's perplexing. if it really is against rules, then I might actually consider purchasing their upcoming content and referring it lol. But honestly I doubt me calling them shit writers is bad lol. They're not good, they're just down right horrible.

Are the writers forum members? are they active?

Actually, yes. Several of the writers are forum members. Some are active, some are not. Irregardless of whether or not they - or any other user in general - are active or not, you do not get a free pass to insult them. Actually, Telltale staff members used to participate a lot more on the forums, but I imagine they stopped posting as frequently due to people scrutinizing them.

You are welcome to voice your criticism of any game they make.

You are not welcome to insult them personally. Please try to keep this in mind and be more respectful towards members of the forums - irregardless of whether or not they are staff and/or "active" members.

  • Man i cry like a bitch when Talking down Kenny on the train, Lee's lasts words, when kenny speaks about his family and the stay at wellington ending.

  • I actually don't know how to say this..but fuck...i don't think it's ''just a game'',cause man,the writers have really tried to simulate the real world in an apocalipse, and shit..just to know the fact that we would have to make these choices..And probably like the game, there's no real happy ending..it's just depressing as fuck..i don't even know if i want,or should play the season finale game..
