Where Season 2 Shined and Failed, and what Season 3 Can Learn From That
I'll say it right off the bat, I liked Season 2 more than Season 1. I love both Seasons and they are both my favorite games of all time, but I just feel the second season is overall better. Now, many people on the forums have been hating on season 2, and some complaints are valid. In my opinion, the good outshines the bad. With that being said, let's get the bad out of the way first:
Episode Length- The episodes were much too short. Thankfully Telltale seems to have learned there lesson because TFTB and GOT took me over 2 hours to complete.
Unneeded deaths/Bad handling of determinant characters- There were many deaths this Season that I felt were only for shock value or were just out of lazy writing. Carlos' death for example, would have been great, if the Sarah storyline were handled properly. Carlos' death was shocking, but it felt wasted after the events of "Amid the Ruins" where Sarah dies regardless. Sarah could have been an amazing character who could go from someone who can't handle anything to a badass(In time). And as you know, I can't speak of poor handling of Determinant characters without mentioning possibly my favorite new character in Season 2, Nick. The moment where Walter(Determinant) saves Nick was heartfelt, emotional, and was utterly destroyed for the rest of the Season. I believe Walter should have been Determinant and die sometime later in the season. In "In Harms Way", Nick says almost nothing and does not speak one word in "Amid the Ruins before being slaughtered, off-screen! Nick should have determinant survived the entire Season along with Sarah. As for Pete, while his second Determinant death was handled amazingly, you should have been Determinately able to cut off his leg, forcefully if need be. If you got Bandages or something in "All That Remains", he would survive and could Determinately survive the whole Season! Alvin's death was good, but he should have Determinately survived and than be killed in the firefight with the Russians after Rebecca's death, saving AJ.
Wasted Character Potential- AKA Carver. In Episode 3, when the group is escaping, instead of Carver stopping them, it's Troy. Kenny would not beat his face in, but he would die the same way with Jane ahem shooting his dick off. Carver and the surviving group would attack the group in Episode 4, while Rebecca is giving birth. After everything happens and Carver is beat, Kenny than bashes Carver's face in while Rebecca, AJ, and the group either watch or leave.
To be continued, I'm tired.
