Who should play the characters in a movie? And Why?

Guybrush Threepwood - Orlando Bloom. Based on the episode from Extras, not POTC. And the hair from LOTR

Elaine - Leah Remini, Carrie from The King of Queens. They have the same attitude.

Le Chuck - Michael Clarke Duncan. He's big and has a dark voice.

We spent a long time coming up with these. What do you think??

If this thread has come up before, Im sorry. I searched the forum but couldn't find anything.

I think we already got Pirates of the Caribbean. If that isn't Monkey Island, then i don't know. But yes, a sequel would be nice.

Monkey Island should never be a live action movie. Animated, yes. Live action, no.

It's concept art by Steve Purcell (artist for much of the concept artwork for SOMI and MI2, as well as some backgrounds, and the cover artwork) from the cancelled Monkey Island movie.

If they make an animated movie, i'd like Purcell to animate it, or overlook the animation if he cant animate

Definitely. Curse of Monkey Island looked good, but it will never hold a candle to his artwork for Monkey Island.

    YES.

    VERY YES.

If they'd remade the first Monkey Island in this style, I would have no complaints. If this had been the style used in CMI, I would have no complaints. This is exactly what I was talking about in the MI looking too cartoony thread, there are well done, quality cartoons, then there are crappy, poorly done cartoons. The style above would lean strongly toward the former, and then some.

I'd love to see CMI redone in this style, and I'd love to see an animated movie in the same style as well. Maybe I'm just a huge Purcell fanboy, I don't know, but that simply screams Monkey Island to me, it's absolutely bloody perfect.

Oh, and to be relevant to the topic at hand, I think David Tennant would do an awesome job as the voice of Guybrush.

I'm glad to know that my local MI friends and myself aren't the only ones that noticed this. The first Pirates has a lot in common with MI... And when you start taking in the squeals it's just as bad... But we always put it off as basic ties in Caribbean lore.

Here's a bit of info on the cancelled Monkey Island movie that explains why the PotC movie is so similar to Monkey Island.
The really interesting thing is that the movie was going to be produced by Steven Spielberg (who is a big Monkey Island fan himself). He asked Ted Elliott, a script writer who has worked on several Disney movies (including 'Treasure Planet') and on 'Steven Spielberg’s Director's Chair' game, to help with the story for the MI movie. The Monkey Island movie never got the green light and years later Ted Elliott wrote 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl', which took several ideas from Monkey Island. So basically the first two PotC movies are the Monkey Island movie.
  • edited June 2009
And then the third PotC film was a let down, so it fits the bill!
Monkey Island made the first two the succes, then they ran out of ideas ;)

i made some sort of all-time cast list, with some legendary actors, and i couldn't quite think of match-ups for all of the characters

mi1g.jpg Guybrush Threepwood - Alex Winter (resembles most with Escape Guybrush version)

mi2z.jpg Elaine Marley - Juliane Moore

m11h.jpg Mancomb Seepgood - Walter Huston

m13m.jpg Largo LaGrande - Tim Roth

mi3n.jpg Captain LeChuck - Oliver Reed

    18031578.jpg Griswold Goodsoup -Frank Langella

30381320.jpg Captain Smirk - Lee Marvin

80462851.jpg Mr. Fossey - Rowan Atkinson

    11624377.jpg Bob - Richard Pryor

80414495.jpg Mad Marty - Steve Martin

m10j.jpg Marco de Pollo - Antonio Banderas

    m14d.jpg Carla - Angela Bassett

mi4x.jpg Hotel Reteptionist - Gérard Depardieu

m12g.jpg Pegnose Pete - Phil Collins

m15j.jpg Captain Kate Capsize - Nicole Kidman

Whilst i have to say that i liked the first movie of Pirates of the Caribbean the most, i also enjoyed the other ones. Quite interesting that this first equals the best doesn't apply to the episodes. Here the first episodes are often one of the weaker ones in a serie.
  • edited June 2009
Well I feel I have to defend my claims.

    Here's a clip from the Extras: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtGJA_CllCs
He needs blond hair of course. Guybrush has to be funny and a bit helpless with tons of self-esteem, as Orlando has in the clip.

Leah Remini as Elaine is because she's funny and has the same attitude as Elaine. I think Michelle Monaghan is as funny as sawdust. But I have to admit that Leah Remini might have a problem with the English accent.

Comparing MI to POTC is very wrong. I can’t see how you'd get i.e. a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle into POTC. If a MI movie was ever made it had to be done properly, which would include all the fun gadgets, rubber chicken, and the weird actions, like remove the sunburned skin from a man and use it as a map. It would be challenging I admit, but if making a MI movie means another POTC ii would be no point since it is two totally different worlds, except for the pirate theme of course.

Haha actually Owen Wilson wouldn't be a bad Guybrush at all. He could definitely work his humor type into it real nice.

Bruce Campell as Stan, I love it!!!

But who should play the mayor at Phatt Island? Fat Bastard maybe?
  • edited June 2009
Bruce Campbell as Stan would be awesome!!!

Maybe it's just that I love the idea of Bruce Campbell in an MI movie, but I think he could pull off some other characters too: Largo, Meathook, any number of pirates, Fester Shinetop, and even Murray.

some nice ideas, guys. but, in my opinion, no1's offered a fitting actress for Elaine's role.

personally, i think i could name a couple or so actresses from hollywood, but, i think that it'd be best if it were not a professional actress for this role.
