The impact of background music

Season 1, Episode 1

Lee reaches the pharmacy, and finds out where his parents were hiding. This is where he picks up the family
photo and tears himself out of it.

The background music that plays during scene, it's an instant mood changer. It takes from you happy, excited, or even calm to a
feeling of loneliness and despair.

What's that song called? Because I love it.

Also, what's another scene that was made powerful by background music?

When Walter clutches the knife of his best pal, Matthew. That was a goodie.

"Put the knife down, Walter".

  • season 1 episode 5 background music ,has a bigger impact on me

  • The music that starts playing after Lee is shot by Clementine or Clementine leaves that music is just so depressing and fits right into the tone of the story

The track that plays in Starved For Help after the fight with Andy.

That track turned that scene into one of the game's most memorable and iconic moments

Also when it's used after you stop the train, and when you let Ben fall to his death

That fucking track could turn a video of someone eating cereal into an emotional masterpiece

  • The main theme for Season 2 is deliberately intended to bring back bittersweet memories of Lee's last moments with Clem, reinforcing to us that Lee is dead and will never come back. It certainly sets a strong tone for the whole season.

Carver also has a very menacing motif that follows him around during his scenes. It's one of the reasons why his beating of Kenny had such a sinister impact.

    1. The music that always play whenever Lee & Clementine are together (Alive Inside)
    2. The music during first time arriving at St. John's farm, such peaceful.
    3. The music during at Jewellery Store, Clementine's last moment with Lee.
    4. Season 2 menu theme. Really hits me a lot as the music is similar with the Jewellery store moment.
    5. Clementine reunites with Kenny (Alive Inside)
    6. Wellington ending.

As far as I see, Alive Inside is the only music that gave me goosebumps. It reflects that even the world is ending, there are still some hopes left that it will be better.

Carver's theme really gives you that uneasy feeling.

Also the music that plays when Omid is sneaking up to Michelle in the bathroom right before he gets shot and when Clem, Pete and Nick discover the dead bodies by the river is one of the most tense pieces I've heard in a long while. Edit: found it:

That's the song that plays in season 1 ep 3 when Carley advises Lee to inform everyone of his past. Even though the song has hopeful undertones it's still pretty upsetting knowing what will happen to her shortly after this. Edit: Also the song that plays when they get the train moving.

  • The music at the end of season 1, death scene and credits

and the song that plays after you shoot Kenny or reach Wellington

I always get chills when Armed with Death plays as Lee makes his way to the Marsh House. It embodies his determination perfectly. He's literally a dead man walking, but this is the home stretch, and he'll save Clementine no matter what.

Also a bit surprised no one has mentioned the music that plays when Kenny and Jane fight to the death. The tension is so extreme, it makes it feel like they're two primal animals.

When it hits 3:00, you just know that it won't end well.

  • This is the one moment from No Going Back that provides a glimpse at how desolate and bleak the season could have been. The musical track during the blizzard scene emphasizes just how alone Clem is...
