Clem's bond with Lee

Kenny states that Clem and Lee were like "Two peas in a pod". And it's true, in season 1, whenever Lee would enter a different room, like the pharmacy office, Clem would always follow.

This father/ daughter bond that Lee and Clem had established rather quickly due to Lee being protective and caring of Clementine.
But as I was one day to find out whilst playing season 1, Lee can actually not save Clementine when she gets grabbed from the bathroom in the pharmacy, and will therefore be saved by Carley.

So if a player was to play all through the game as an uncaring Lee, which is quite possible in some aspects... Then why would it be reasonable for Clementine to still feel a bond to Lee.

This is just a fun psychological analysis "theory" that can help to explain why the asshole version of Lee is still adored by Clem.

  1. Clementine seems to be well acquainted with babysitters.
In the phone call from Clem's parents, Diana tells Sandra to take Clem back to Marietta's. (Whoever that is?) This sparked an idea that Diana has trust in Sandra to get Clementine to safety. I've never had a baby sitter, but I can't imagine my mum would trust a random to know who or where Marietta lives. We could say that Sandra is related to the family or a close friend, but Clem doesn't seem to be extremely effected by her death at all. And remember that Clem is still emotionally sensitive at this point in the game. If Clem's parents were regular trip takers, then this could have caused Clem's remarkable trust for strangers in taking care of her. (Even at 8 I knew of stranger danger).

  2. Clem's parents probably weren't around much.
Clem tells Lee that her mother was a doctor and her father was an engineer. Both of these jobs are extremely demanding and would strip parents of spending quality time with their children. I'm in no way at all implying that Clementine's parents were bad people, but rather didn't get to spend as much time with her as they would've liked. As a result of this, it could explain why Clem has a walkie-talkie. Maybe in order to achieve some quality time, Clem's parents had to resort to this method of communication whilst they were working long hours.
As an example, my Dad is a workaholic and as a result I don't see him a whole lot. We get along really well but as a result, I don't really know a whole heap about my Dad. Just that he likes food... It's not necessarily a bad thing because we still have a normal relationship. Whereas my mum works 40 hours a week and I know basically everything about her because we get to achieve quality time.
What I'm trying to say is that Clem's relationship could lean more towards the one like I have with my Dad. You love them... but you just don't really know them.
If this is the case for Clem. Then it is understandable that spending 24/7 with Lee would cause her to form a bond relatively quickly, as she never really got to spend quality time with her parents.

  3. I miss Lee...
When Clementine and Christa are making a fire at the start of season 2, Clem has the option to say that she wishes Omid was here or that she misses Lee. No mention of her parents at all...
I found that the option may have not been added because it wasn't a relevant choice for the player, but it was relevant to Clementine and we are playing as Clem. Interestingly, if Clem tells Carver that it's just her and "dad" at the cabin, she'll tell him that his name is Ed. This is Clem's fathers actual name and although it wouldn't exactly be appropriate for Clementine to say Lee, it is rather out of the blue considering that the season starts off with hat tips to Lee. A Picture. Saying "I miss him". Even a grand old story told to Luke about how awesome Lee was.
I know that Lee was Clementine's protector throughout the apocalypse's beginnings and she was never with her parents during it, but I feel that personally if I were Clem, I would be crying for my parents as equally as for Lee. She did in season 1, surprisingly not as much as a normal child would though, but in season 2 all memory of her parents just died.

Remember this is just a "theory" to explain Clementines attachment to Lee if you act like an asshole.
