I wish TWD were done by a different company

One with the sense to release all 5 episodes, the full game, in one go instead of making me wait 2+ months in between episodes, and over a year in between seasons while they jerk around with 2-3 other franchises. I would prefer a company that does not operate on keeping their fanbase waiting. There i said it. Let the fanboys begin flaming me i am prepaired

Yeah i saw this as well. I just hope that the story is up to par with what i expect from TWD because if it is, it will blow TTG out of the water simply because they will release the whole game together instead of breaking it into sections and releasing them months apart. My only concerns are that the game will have too much mindless zombie shooting like survival instinct and not focus enough on the story and plot. Ironically enough that will prolly be released before TWD S3 if telltale continues with their heads up respective asses but we shall see

It's only been like 4 months since S2 wrapped and you sound like you're expecting a full third season to be done by February

They aren't machines, and it's not too considerate to act like they're sitting around twiddling their thumbs because you expect too much from them. And I'm pretty sure you sitting here shouting at them for being slow/lazy isn't exactly helping morale either.

It's not easy to make an interactive story, it's not easy to write a good story, and it's never been and never will be a quick and easy process. If any other company was doing this (any company that actually respected the game and wanted to create and tell a good story, at least), you'd be waiting just as long in between seasons.

  • Episodic development is a joke. Guarantee if season 1 story was as bad as S2 was, there would not have been a s2 as it would have been a huge flop. If every season was of the writing quality of s1 it would ALMOST be worth the massive waiting game they force on us but as is im considering throwing in the towel

  • Dont get me wrong, the wait between seasons makes alot more sense then the wait between episodes. I am just bitter because i dont honestly give much of a fuck about all these other franchises in the works, which are the only reason why we have to wait over a year just for news about s3.

  • I wouldn't count myself as a 'fanboy' but I am seriously passionate about TWD and Telltale in general making some of my best games to date.

But WTF? Who would you rather make The Walking Dead? Fucking Treyarch? Who, TWD is a game developed of your own choices and Telltale are the first people that i've seen to do something like this, and make a two season 2 game that I love, and have many other games piling onto that extra stress, and i think they handled it quite well. I love Telltale Games making The Walking Dead, and I understand your point of '2+ month per episode and a year wait per season' but honestly I think that's pretty good, especially with all of their other games on top of that.. They have 2 months to record all of the different dialogue options, get all the voice actors in too records the options/responses, come up with ideas for the episode, animate the characters, code the game so it can be downloaded, put it on steam/XBL/Whatever the PSN one is, and a bunch of other things within two months.. I think that's fucking amazing.

End of the day I love Telltale having created The Walking Dead and I wouldn't want any other company to do TWDG.. Have a nice day

Hey we both think alike on this.. Glad I'm not the only one. If a company with more resources and funds got a hold of this sort of episodic game I believe they possibly would dish out the episodes a lot quicker at least with the larger staff and finances EVEN more advanced graphics (however the game might cost a tad more but would be worth it) think if someone like Quantic Dream or Activision bought out this game series from Telltale. Maybe even like 3 weeks of waiting time in between episodes versus the current 3 months wait. Tell-Tale has a great thing going its just everything consistently takes a full eon with them to complete.lol And they're pretty much always shut mouthed 98% of the time, far as keeping fans posted with news.

They might finally let you know when its just a few hours before the release and by that time we may as well just get surprised with the newly received content without any prior heads up. I could never understand the 2 to 3 to 4 month wait between episodes but I can understand the year between seasons. By the time you begin the next episode you'll have forgotten nearly every choice you made in the previous episode even with the recaps. I often scratch my head like "I chose that?" I don't remember doing that because it was months ago.

If you think about it by the time Telltale games finishes just one season of any game a woman who is expecting a baby will have given birth by the time a finale is done.. as all of their most recent episodic games usually take about 9 to 10 months to wrap up 1 season. That's a pretty long time to finally know what happens at the end of a tale you began. Unless you just wait until all the episodes are out at once which is pretty much a year after the first episode is released. And by then you risk getting spoiled by some of the fans who ignorantly/inconsiderately blab events of the games aloud. Can't say I like episodic games being treated like a TV series but its something different to try for a change than the other redundant game styles.

Would you rather wait 10 months for the entire game or play parts of the game so you've got something to look forward to and topics to focus on in the forums?

The reason they release it in episodes is so that they can take player feedback and make changes to future episodes, one example is during season 1 they noticed that lots of people hated Larry so they added the option to either try to save him with CPR or help Kenny kill him with the salt lick to test peoples morals. If they released all the episodes at once and didn't use player feedback the whole scene would probably have been very different.

They also noticed how people responded to choices depending on whether Clementine was in the room, i saw in a video somewhere that they noticed that players would be less likely to hurt or kill someone if Clem was watching so they would make sure she was in some scenes and not in others to see how players choices and play style would change.

Telltale is only a small company so it does take them longer to make episodes but they are hiring more staff so hopefully in the future they should be able to make episodes faster.

  • Probably have to wait for more info as it's a way off, but as someone stated above. If it's anything like the last time someone else tried. The games going to really suck.

  • Also, TellTale found that too many people let Ben up in Around Every Corner in the test playings, so they added him leaving Clementine in the episode.

  • Wow, I think killing off Larry just because people disliked him isn't really a good decision (if it's true) cause it looked to me like fans hated him just because he was a jerk, it's not the kind of thing that should affect their game decisions imo, it's not the same as "Don't kill off Luke, he is a good character" I would understand if they changed their decision based on that kind of feedback from fans.

They where always going to kill Larry but they added the choices whether or not to try saving him, the orginal scene would probably have been similar but more linear. I tried to find where i heard/read about the changed scene but i cant find it at the moment.

Everyone else has basically told you what I was thinking when I saw this thread (that's is absolutely ridiculous that you think this IMO) except for this it seems -

and over a year in between seasons while they jerk around with 2-3 other franchises.

My problem with TWDG community right here, is that a lot of them are so arrogant about Telltale working on other games just because it takes time away from TWDG.

Deal with it. Telltale is a gaming company thats supposed to pick up tons of different games/franchises to expand their company. They aren't just another branch of TWD, so either deal with that and get used to waiting or just leave. These forums/fandom already have enough unnecessary hate.

  • What's the difference if it's handed off to another company? You have to wait for other video games to come out, even years between sequels. Plus if it wasn't for the lovely staff at Telltale you wouldn't be so attached the story and it's characters they created, it would just end up being another Survival Instincts or Dead Island.

  • edited January 2015

To be honest survival instincts was fun and a high quality game to me not bad or great but good and dead island sure it has bugs but its pretty dang fun so to be honest i love telltales games and dead island franchise and that daryls backstory game to be honest all of them are high quality games to me but its you're view on the games so ill respect it greatly

Oh, I meant in terms of story. Those games had a way of telling the story where you interact with too many different bland characters mostly through in-game cutscenes or the radio and had the most generic lines of dialogue. Always felt like you just were performing tasks and fulfilling every crazy sci-fi zombie cliché in the book. Dead Island was fun though.

Waiting a year for a sequel for any game isn't exactly cruel or heart breaking. I don't really get where you are going with this. Yes, they are working on other games in the mean time, but it's not like the story details for a sequel appear out of thin air. Would you rather they planned Season 3 during Season 2 and divert even more resources from Season 2?

Your example of everyone hating Larry is daft. I mean, how could you not hate Larry. His whole character oozed hatred.
To salt lick him was an easy decision, whether or not Clementine was watching, didn't matter.

Even if it were true though, and telltale did take notice of player feedback during season one. I would like to know when they did during season two. I can't think of one instance when telltale come on here and said, hold on that would change things for the better, we will do that instead.
If you can point out somewhere in season two when telltale changed something because of feedback on here, then I shall retract the statement. But I don't think you will be able to.

    I liked Larry.

  • The dude was just looking out for Lilly, you can't deny Larry had right to do what he did to Lee. Lee did murder a state senator and was a threat to his life and to the life of his daughter. I was nice to Larry, to show him i'm not a crazed killer and I understand why you do what you do, too bad we never saw the results. :/

  • Clearly you're not "prepaired" if they did that we would be left with something much worse and end up waiting longer all together.

  • I wish TWD was done by valve than we could wait 10000 years for an episode.

Player feedback can come from other places other than the forum (the stats being the most common way), i think they used playtesters for most of their feedback with one example being the conversation with Walter needed to be changed so that the game forced you to talk to him as playtesters would miss the conversation when it was optional dialogue and it then caused confusion when other characters started talking about Matthew.

One minor thing that might have come from the forum is when Alvin made a random comment about the Juice boxes in episode 2 as the forum was obessed with the Juice box between episodes 1&2 so it might have been added as a joke.

Not true at all. It's not like we would instantaneously get Season 3 right after Season 2 if it weren't for the other games. While Telltale does have the major beats of a Season's story planned prior to working on the game, they work on the smaller details of the story live during a Season. Just like how movie sequels or television show Seasons aren't released immediately after the last, Telltale needs time to recuperate between Seasons. Even after a story ends, writers need time to come up with a quality story for a sequel as they rarely plan to release a sequel immediately after the last story was written. Even if we weren't getting other games, then we wouldn't be getting anything at all from Telltale and we would still be waiting a year or longer for Season 3. Telltale has multiple teams, and the existence of other games should not detract in any way from Walking Dead Season 3.
