A Defense of Long Road Ahead.

Right up front I have to say Long Road Ahead is my favorite episode though granted the choices aren't major and contribute little to the future events the story is more crisp and well written than any other in Season 1 and definitely in Season 2. There were so many decent bits and it was the most eventful in the series. The remnants of The Motor Inn group dying or disbanding. The Doug/ Carley choices really come into play with the option to tell people who you are as well as the Kenny and Lily thing really coming into play. The bandit attack was exciting and had you on your toes and even though identical Carley and Doug's death was played ot decent. Keeping Lily or shoving her to the side doesn't amount to much but it gives the player a determinant scene with Lily that blended in. The train thing did take a little longer but it was a nice puzzle in a story based game we were introduced to Chuck as well who IMO had the most presence for a minor character. I thought this episode explored Kenny's development more than any other. It showed how in denial he was and the situation had multiple ways it could unfold. Even the fight scene was deep and added to an emotional side of the story. The episode has one of my favorite scenes where Lee cuts Clementine's hair and teaches her to use a gun. We get introduced to Omid and Christa (two of my favorite characters). I know some people will say finding the blow torch in that shack to cut down the tanker was plot oriented but think about it so is something else in each episode ( A New Day it was Lee's Dad's cane, in Starved For Help it was Larry's wallet having change to get out of the meat locker, Around Every Corner it was a hidden morgue in a fucking sewer and in No Time Left it was a carjack in a morgue which makes no sense what use would they have for it?) So every episode had it's respective share of plot oriented moments

  • I don't think an episode as loved as this really needed a defense thread, but okay.

  • Agreed, I'm pretty sure this is actually the most praised episode out of any episode that was released :P

  • Maybe No Time Left is more praised for the ending alone, but it's definitely one of the most praised episodes in not only TWD, but any Telltale game.

  • Did you even read it?

  • Yes I did, it was a well written argument, but I still didn't see the point of defending an already beloved episode. Also, it wasn't a carjack, it was a rib splitter.

  • I hated the train thing because I was bored as hell. The rest of the episode is excellent though.

  • Was that Telltale's first attempt at first-person shooting, because it was a bit odd?

Also this was an episode where killing people is mandatory (I was trying for a no-kill good Lee) which also felt odd, but it makes sense kill or be killed, right?

I'm not trying to say it was a bad episode, far from it, thanks to this episode it got the plot really moving forward and set a lot of things in motion.

  • Still. But what are the odds?

  • This is kind of old... Also long road ahead was really liked by the fans and doesn't need a defense

  • I haven't seen a single person that has said that long Road Ahead is worse than Amid The Ruins or something. Long Road Ahead is actually one of my favorite episodes, and with what MetallicaRules said, I don't really think this needs a defense thread. I respect you wanting this episode to not get hate, but the fact is, is that it wasn't really getting hate and when I saw this on the front page of the forums I said to myself "wtf, people dislike this episode?" But yeah.. Thanks for sticking up for the episode but. I don't think it was needed :)

You have a nice day anyways. :)

  • Thank you. I know it wasn't completely needed but the episode is my favorite Telltale episode of all time and I'll stick by it
