Season 2 would've been better if...
...telltale made more hubs. The environments in Season One allowed us to communicate with the other survivors in the group, bring puzzle elements to the game, and made the episodes more bulky in length. Imagine On the Road without the train hubs, or Around Every Corner without Crawford. They would be soooo short. In Season One there were several different subjects we could discuss with each character with made the relationships closer and led to the devastating deaths of beloved characters like Carley and Ben. Yes, I liked Ben, even though he was a shitbird. Replaying Season 2, I'm actually surprised at the low amount of opportunities we are given to talk to the characters. In the two hubs between A House Divided and In Harm's Way (the bridge and the hardware store), there is not one real chance to talk with Sarah, which is odd, considering she was easily the most interesting out of the cabin group. There are a few chances to speak to her, but she just delivers one liners that are meaningless.
This applies to almost every single one of the cabin group survivors. I'd say the most developed character, dialogue-wise, was probably Nick. I was horrified when I saw his reanimated corpse in the gate in Amid the Ruins. His death had a pretty strong impact on me, even though he was basically absent in In Episode 3. Every single character could've had meaningful deaths if we were simply given the opportunity to speak to them more. I was saddened when Alvin died, but again, I din't really care because I barely knew him. Alvin and Nick were determinant in Episode 2, so Telltale basically wrote them out of Episode 3, which is stupid. The same goes for Sarah in Episode 4, because if you leave her in the RV, she is barely given any screen time for the rest of the episode. Speaking of deaths, the death of characters don't really seem to matter to the other characters, because they don't have any lasting effects. At least Nick cared about Pete, because that was the only real example of mourning in the season. It's honestly just unrealistic. The lack of hubs and the resulting conversations are my main, and only real complaints about Season 2, and I hope that Season 3 changes that.
