The more I hear about LEC's Monday announcement, the more I think they're planning a Classic Point and Click Range of Games due for release on multiple formats, remastered for a new generation.
And looking at how SOMI turned out, I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

The announcement also says "other distribution channels" which I hope means a direct download kind of like what Telltale does. I don't have Steam, nor do I have any desire to... I'm happy to get the game directly, if it's available.
I hope we get wii version of this soon. I bought a wii for the sole purpose of playing point and clicks again as i have a mac and dont want to buy a PC just so i can play SOMI. I dont understand why lucasarts decided on a xbox version when the wii lends itself so well to the point and click interface. I wonder if SOMI can be played under scummvm? Anyone know?
I've played on my Wii all the LucasArts adventure games (except GF and EMI), the two first Simon the Sorcerer, the two first Broken Sword, Lure of the Temptress, Beneath a Steel Sky, Flight of the Amazon Queen, I have no mouth and I must scream and I don't remember if anyone else. So yes, ScummVM works.
At least, it works with SOMI, but I don't think it will work with SOMI:SE, if that's what you're asking.
I'm definitely purchasing this for Xbox Live Arcade. I would buy it for PC if it was actually coming on retail form, but it doesn't seems to be the case.
I prefer getting download-only games on consoles rather than on PC whenever is possible, for some kind of unclear reason.
I miss the toxic plastic smell you get when you open up the store bought game packages..... and looking at the owners manual while my wife tries on tons of clothes at the store and asks me if "these" particular jeans make her butt look big... even though she is 5 feet tall and under 100 lbs so pretty much nothing makes her look fat.

Probably because there's a bigger audiance for this type of game on the Xbox. Do we know how well Sam & Max sold on the Wii?
Steam has interesting system requirements for SMI: Special Edition
System Requirements
o OS: Windows XP® or Windows Vista®
o Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3000+
o Memory: 256 MB RAM, 512 MB for Vista
o Graphics: 128 MB with Shader Model 2.0 capability
o DirectX®: 9.0c (March 2009)
o Hard Drive: 2.5GB free hard drive space
o Sound: DirectX® 9.0c compliant sound card
o Controller support: Xbox 360 controller
Somehow I find that 3Ghz processor bit unrealistic compared to other requirements. Then again one game developer said once that in their case Steam had invented system requirements without consulting them.
So I'm kind of waiting that Lucas confirms the requirements.
The system requirements are annoying.
As neither of my systems meet said requirements.
And how crazy is it that Tales... which is in full 3D has less demanding requirements than SMI:SE, a 2D game.
I smell a port of the 360 game.

I don't care about the requirements since my pc will likely run the game just fine. But wow those requirements are something. Lucas art said that the game will still run with the Scumm engine.3GHz prossesor for a 1990 game with enhanced sound and graphics thats too much.
Most probably those requirement are fake made by steam(not sure but somewhere I heard that they do that sometimes without asking the developer).
My only concern is that it will look crappy on my 19" non widescreen monitor, I'm guessing the game looks it's best on 1080p native screens so some kind of scaling is going to be used for those of us without one.
I hope they are fake. Because for a SCUMM game with some fancier graphics, more sound channels, and a modified interface...that's just ridiculous.
When lucasarts say that the game still uses the SCUMM engine they mean the game was built using it as the logical foundation, the new graphics and sound absolutely won't be using the old SCUMM routines.
You can build a very big fancy house on good foundations but the foundations are not the house.
Still I think the steam specs look too high, probably just covering their bases.
Granted. But they did say "running on top of the original game." So like you said, the new additions won't be using scumm routines. But it sounds like the scumm engine will actually be there, giving the event prompts that the new routines will take cues from.
That may be what you just said in different words.
Anyway, you have the original scumm code, the original assets, the new assets, and the new routines that govern the working of the new assets and tell them how to listen to the original scumm code. So the crazy specs would have to be needed by the new assets and routines.
Like you say, that looks too high. How does hi-res 2D graphics with the occasional shading effect and some routines warrant all that?
I have read on the LucasArts boards that Steam simply made the system requirements up on their own, without consulting anyone from LucasArts. Unfortunately I can't find the quote anymore, but I'm sure it was there.
In any case, the 3 GHz processor it claims to require is a Pentium 4... that's not exactly a new processor these days. I'm guessing if you're dual-core, you're probably covered regardless. The 2.5 GB of HD space I might buy... although that would be with a serious lack of compression on all that new art and dialogue. Maybe that's good for some.
well it'll be at direct2drive and places like that, plus the edition of putting money into paypal, STEAM does take paypal now, and if u buy it on steam u dont have to keep the exe anywhere because u just redownload it through the application at any persons house you want to show it to, sure its the equivelant of making ur friend buy it after , but lets just imagine they dont know ur user details, and uve taken the game home with you. steams very good, i got indiana jones off there for 2.99, fate of atlantis , obviously, now theres no reason to get the god awful wii version

Could be, because requirements aren't even logical:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3000+
It's says that 3Ggz Intel processor is required or AMD Athlon 64 3000+. Correct me if I'm wrong, but AMD Athlon 64 3000+ is only 1,8Ghz processor, so why it demands so much less if processor is AMD?

My money is on an iPhone and/or DS release.
Not that I'm sad, just hope they didn't screw it up on accident.

Steam says 9 hours from now, but that might just be a countdown until it's midnight on the US west coast.
Hmm? I think you quoted the wrong person. I just wanted to know if this will be released on Games for Windows Live.
Oops, I read "when", not "if".
wtf you are right. An hour ago was 8 hours.
