Walter and Matthew?

I've been wondering this for a while. Were Walter and Matthew an item? Before Walter got shot by Carver, he looked at the photo of them both, almost like "It's okay if I die, I'll get to be with Matthew again." I was wondering this even before that scene, but this really made me wonder.

    yes. Walter can actually say Matthew is his partner depending on what is said to him
