Remember the scene at Marquise De Singe with the monkey when Guybrush asked something like "Are you hungry? Do you need a bath?" and the monkey slaps its head, is a reference to the beginning of EMI when Timmy's trying to explain, what's happening with the Mayor's Mansion. Because Guybrush remembers such kind of scene before and this is the only scene I remember a monkey trying to explain something to Guybrush.

    What about the CMI quote,

"We'll have to amputate." - Haggis
"Let's not be too rash!" - Rottingham

In the barbershop after 'sabotaging' the hairbrush with lice and causing the Captain to lose his beloved hair, expect it aplies with the Marquis and Guybush's hand.

I know several people have mentioned the 'U-Tube', but did anyone notice when you use the 'U-Tube' with different characters Guybrush says something along the lines of "I don't think they'll appreciate my U-Tube offerings'.
    Anyway, I found that funny.

I heard Guybrush say he wanted to get off this fershlugginer island, which is the same thing he said when he was on Monkey Island in EfMI.

The Marquis de Singe was exiled to Flotsam on account of doing crossbreeding experiments on the Queen's prized poodles. This could be a reference/origin to LeChuk's own prized piranha poodles.
  • Exactly and Le Chuck mentions the poodles in the Intro as well. :)

Oh yes, the Voodoo Lady also had a vision about 'the skull'.
...which could be a reference to the greatest RPG ever, but there are more likely options. :p

Are you talking about Morte by any chance? Or some other rpg heh.
    Iimmediately through Murry though. YAY!

Is that a reference to something? I can't quite remember needing a lathe in any Monkey Island games... :(

the lathe joke was a reference to Galaxy Quest. it was also a major running gag over at the Rifftrax forums for a year or so, so that is what i originally thought of. I wonder if any of the writers hang out over there.

    Here are the instructions.
    Something from each game.
    MI1 Root Beer
    MI2 VooDoo Doll
    MI3 Cursed Ring
    MI4 Ultimate Insult
    MI5 (hypothetically) The Silver

Come to think of it, where did Guybrush get that ring for the cutlass? There were supposed to be only two in existence, one of them is on Elaine's finger, and the other vanished when he took it off.

I can't belive that any one spotted the refererence at the end puzzle. Guybrush trapped a zombie hand with tar... Kinda like Sam and Max did with Jessie James' zombie hand.

Whoa... you might be on to something here - I totally had forgotten about that even though I replayed both seasons of Sam & Max not long ago. :)

"The doctor is in" sign on de Singe's house:
In Hellraiser 2: Hellbound insane demon doctor Chennard says that when he enters a hospital:
(*warning* there is a lot of really nasty gore here) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUK73vimRNY&feature=related (*warning* there is a lot of really nasty gore here)
Next thing he says is... "I recommend amputation!"
(maybe demonic origins of that quote is a clue about progression of de Singe character in future episodes?)

Another Indy reference I noticed when Singe shoots you (for the 2nd time I believe):
"You are meddling with powers you cannot possibly comprehend".
(from the Last Crusade when Marcus Brody talks to Colonel Vogel) :)

Because it's in Hit the Road. :)

Actually, I was thinking of the scene where Jesse James' hand is shooting around in Stinky's Diner in season two and you have to
trap it in the Gooey Molasses Tar Cake(TM)
    ...

np: Tosca - Ambient Emely (Opera)

'I don't have the education, jacket and fedora to read these'
That's something I didn't understand: would you please explain what does it mean? Engliish is not my native language :o

The combo of education + jacket + fedora ( a type of hat) = Indy Jones

Winslow's "Clever boy..." is a reference to Jurassic Park. He says it in the exact same tone as the hunter in the movie. :)

There were HEAPS of in joke references.

I thought they did an awesome job at it.

The "and your little dog too" (but he says hand in this game) is another reference.

To what? Wallace & Gromit? Tin Tin? :)
  • edited July 2009
The rat in the voodoo lady's shack isn't Jimmy, it's just a random rat. If it was supposed to be Jimmy, it probably would've been wearing Jimmy's hat.

I didn't even think of the hand in the tar thing, and I just did that puzzle in Sam & Max yesterday. Interesting!

Guybrush's gestures when he rolled the cheese on the carvings made me laugh really hard.

I'm honestly surprised there weren't a few jokes around "rub my unicorn" considering the glassblower on Flotsom Island is trying to sell some very familiar unicorns (Sam & Max - Season 1).

I just got round to playing it. The rub my unicorn jokes where some of the funniest things I seen in a game. I think the entire glass unicorn thing was some kind of reference to them.

    He BLOWS unicorns.

i dont think anywhere in the game did it out right say that "he blows unicorns" it is implied but those words arent in the game.

Erm... actually I believe it was a reference to The Wizard of Oz... the Wicked Witch of the West says, "I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog, too!"

I was half expecting some jokes related to "Lost", but I guess current pop-culture dates badly in games.

There is a LOST reference in S&M. I expect there will be one in Tales somewhere...
