    Not so much.

I loved it. I haven't finished it yet but I feel like I'm pretty close, I had a really weird glitch which set me back for a while.

Loved it. It's not the epitome of good adventuring and there's always room for improvement, but I have no large complaints. Nothing was a game-breaker for me. Absolutely satisfied.

    Money well spent

It met my stupidly high expectations. Loved it.

I loved it, and I can't understand how people think the controls are worse than EMI. Classic point 'n click would be better, but the controls are absolutely not bad.

The only thing I found a little disappointing was the quality of the textures, besides that there is nothing to complain about.

Well done Telltale, you have made an awesome Monkey Island.

    it's totaly Monkey Island™... i LOVE it

but it was a bit too easy and short... looking forward to the next episode of Monkey Island™ awesomenes!

I really, really liked it! The voodoo appliances made me cringe, the Flotsam was as piratey as ever... There were only two things I would have changed. Somehow, the jungles of Flotsam weren't as charming as those on Monkey Island in EMI. I found them pretty schematic and the music somehow... didn't quite work. Secondly, I don't know if it's just me, but I wish we could travel from the map view to the specific place instantly (like double click in CMI) and not have to wait till Guybrush makes his way through the bushes.

Loved the game. I'm happy that it still felt like the old Monkey Island games in so many ways. My only real gripe is a couple of bugs. One isn't that big of an issue - there were tiems I would just slide across the ground without moving my feet. The other let me skip a rather important solution to a puzzle that left me stuck later on (which I and a number of other people reported in the Hints section). Otherwise, fantastic game. I can't wait for the next episode. :D

Loved it, only issue with with inventory and combining items.

I can not wait for the next installments!!

    Thank you Telltale!
  • edited July 2009
The only thing, besides inventory, that I'd change would've been the dialog with the news reporter when you first met him. Guybrush's responses weren't as colorful as I was expecting. I felt a little disappointed.

    Voted 'Very Good'.
  • edited July 2009
Very good, I definitely think there's one or two things that could have made it better. I hate to bring up point and click again, but yeah.. But for the most part, I loved it. I've been waiting for this game for years and it definitely met my expectations.

    Good job Telltale :)

I voted 'outstanding' as that's what I believe describes the game well, but there areminor things that I would change.
  • edited July 2009
As said in another thread, it has its flaws, but nothing gamebreaking.
The MI humor is there, the puzzles are tougher than in previous TT-Games and the music and voice acting is excellent.

Thus I voted for the 2nd option.
  • edited July 2009
Loved the game. But the "One-Click-Does-All" option takes much of the fun away. I wish the options of Pick-up, Talk, Open/Close, Examine etc were seperate as in the previous games. But overall, well made.

They have hit the vibe and feel of MI right on the nose! some nice animation but the color scheme is no consistent, why do sand always have to be piss yellow and textures griddy and washed out if it is supposed to be "cartoon style" look? why? The controls are well dodgy as is the excuse for not making it any better. The sales department should be keelhauled for that sales model they came up with (totally cooked on cocaine in a mafia backroom somewhere I assume.)...

Tl:Dr conclusion = They have hit the vibe and feel of MI right on the nose! But some shiznitz prevents it from being an awsome deal.

i voted for "Good - but not as good it could have been", its really a great games, perhaps the best mi ever, but i did not like some things, there no point and click and the graphics could be better
  • edited July 2009
Wonderful. Only some clunkiness in the controls knocks it from outstanding to very good.
  • edited July 2009
Same here. The game is almost outstanding, but a few minor changes could really improve it. Jumping to the map with a hotkey for example. But all in all, i love it! :)

I agree! The game is awesome! How could someone do such a thing!

Love it, not finnished yet, but pretty close to leave the island I think.

I voted for Very Good, although I lean in the direction of "Good".
  • edited July 2009
    Very good overall.

    - Make it a bit harder
    - Enable mouse point 'n click (Maybe along with the keyboard controls if some people like that).

    Outstanding!

    Guybrush
    Elaine
    LeChuck
    Voodoo priestess (+boyfriend)

And all done to a high standard
    Satisfaction guranteed.

Absolutely loved it. Left be wanting for more, more, More, MORE........... MONKEYS!!! I NEED THE MONKEYS!!!! MONKEYS MONKEYS MONKEYS.....

    ahem.

Sorry, I seem to have forgotten to take my medication this evening. I must repair to the medicine cabinet, post-haste!

    I voted very good

+ feels like Monkey Island from start to finish
    + funny
    + good Characters - i love the Marquess :)
+ nice MI style riddles with the right difficulty level

    - the controls could be better. Holding the mouse button to walk - now really... I was getting cramps in my hand all the time. Especially in the maze area. I kept switching back and forth between WASD and mouse because neither is very comfortable.
Also it would be nice to be able to exit to the map via a key like in EFMI.

Overall - i liked it very much. Keep up the good work!

    Very Good

If you play with subtitles like I do a few of the lines are messed up - one by Nipperkin which begins with a " - " and one in the section of books - and the "" are screwed up - you always see it with the right apostrophe on the left side. There was one time I "floated" walking near the
    last idol
    .

Beyond that occasionally the dialog lines presented cool options but didn't let me actually pick something close to it. I don't mind it when it is a) very rare or b) it is SIMILAR to what I asked for but there were too many times it was far off.

The above were not a big deal.

I voted outstanding because it was everything I wanted and more. I read on The Scumm Bar that this could be the best Monkey Island ever. I agree - if they can keep this up for five episodes and pitch a great, epic, cool and dark story it will challenge LeChuck's Revenge.

It was good, but the humour was a little bland to say it was anything more than that.
  • edited July 2009
I voted "very good," as I was one of the people who ran into the game breaking item glitch. Aside from that, my only real complaint is that too many of those situations where the speech option selected has no bearing on what is said are used too early in the game. I think it's fine when they're sparse and towards the middle or end, but when you're just starting out it can be rather jarring.

I loved it. It surpassed my fears easily, and I can tell it's just the beginning to how great it will end up being. However, there are a few things I definitely think would make it much closer to being a truly great MI game.

    1) The control scheme just isn't good enough. The right click is severely underused. I'd like to have the right click at least be an "examine" button and left click be "action". I kept feeling like there was a deficiency of what I should naturally be able to do in a monkey island game. There should at least be a couple different ways you can interact with an object.

The direct mouse control got a little easier as time went on, but it was still very clumsy and the circle around Guybrush is ugly and takes away from the immersion. Point and click is just an obvious improvement, with direct control being fine for those select few scenes where you need it
like the doctor's lab. great use of direct control
    .

    2) I didn't like the way the dialogue options weren't what he actually said. That really bugged me, especially when the option was funny, but then Guybrush says something COMPLETELY different for no reason, or is overly wordy with it. Traditionally in all the games, he says exactly what you choose for him to say, it feels wrong to divert from that, and the lines are funnier that way anyway.

On that note, the game in general is overly wordy i think. The writing is good, but sometimes it tries a bit too hard. I always liked the dryness of the originals, and the reliance on one-liners, it's just part of the monkey island charm. it also adds a lot of replayability for me, sometimes thinking back to listening to all the dialogue squelches the appeal of replaying a game.

    3) I'd like it to be significantly harder. The puzzles all in all were quite good, and it wasn't way too easy, it just didn't quite feel challenging enough. They were a bit obvious and it didn't feel like I really had to rack my brain to figure anything out. There should be more options and open-endedness.

    4) The graphics were FAR better than I had gathered from the screenshots, but a lot of little things could still be done to improve the feel of the game immensely. It has a plastic look where every surface seems to be a flawless shiny piece of toy looking material. It needs more rotting, decaying, moldy, aged, cobwebby kind of details again, make things really look like you're in the 1600s.

Enjoyed it, rated "good". Had quite a few loud and honest laughs.

    Loved:
    - Locations, while Sam&Max or Wallace&Gromit were sparse with locations, this game feels large, nice and diverse.
    - Episode size, good, if the rest of them have the same length I am very happy.
    - Story and riddles were top

    Could be better:
    - There is definitely a monkey screach missing when the game starts/logo is shown :-)
    - Music, somehow the mix did not feel right for some instruments (cymbals too loud on the pier, etc.)
    - Would love to get back a simple point&walk interface, did not like the mousewalk interface.
    - The old MIs had longer and funnier dialog, toying around with your options and the actual answers, I missed that a bit.
    - More items / decorations needed

    Cheers, Blom
