Signs of spiritual overtones in the game?

edited July 2015 in The Walking Dead

I know that might sound crazy, but think about it.
And for those of you who went to Sunday school, or who are religious, you'll get what I'm talking about.

S1, Lee.
Lee, a man who has a good job and a wonderful life, who then commits murder, finds Clementine, and a group, and becomes their "savior" of sorts.
Possible Biblical counterpart - Moses.
Moses grew up in a life of luxury in the Egyptian royal family, and thus had everything he could want.
Until he murdered an Egyptian who was beating an Israelite, which forced him to flee Egypt.
After four decades, he returned and freed the Israelites from slavery, and in essence, became their deliverer, their "savior."

S2. Clementine.
There is a passage in the Bible, that states: "And a little child shall lead them."
And Clementine, being the playable character, helps guide the group through the Season, and in the end, can lead one of the characters to safety.

At Herhel's farm, Lee has the option of saying to Katja, after she makes the statement about needing to hope that things will go back to how they were, Lee can say that their situation could all be divine providence, and Lee eventually sacrificing himself to save Clementine reminds me of Jesus' famous quote: "Greater love hath no-one, than he who lays down his life for his friend."

In the alleyway in Episode 5, if Lee tells Kenny that "Katja wouldn't want this", Kenny can mention something about seeing her.
And in 400 days, Leland is outraged when his wife supposedly utters a blasphemous statement, to which Dee, (His Wife), replies that she cannot believe he's still religious after all that's happened.

In S2, Carver repeatedly refers to Luke's group as "Sheep that went astray", and before he dies refers to them as "Lambs to the slaughter", which could be some sort of indication that his character was perhaps religious before ZA.
When Rebecca dies, I believe Clementine can state: "At least she's with Alvin now."
And Clementine can mention to Kenny about him possibly seeing his family again one day, which Kenny replies that he'll try and believe that too.

I just started thinking about it, and since there have been threads in the past about religion being introduced into the game; and how it could be done, I was just merely stating some things that I have noticed, and drawing some comparisons.
Tell me what you think?

  • Well as an atheist I could say you did nice work here comparing Bible with TWD. But maybe you re searching too deep?( Just my opinion)

  • Not enough to make people squirm imo.

  • Lee clearly believes in the afterlife, as one of the things he can say at the very end is, "I'll miss you". As in when he is gone and in Heaven, he will miss Clementine.

Additionally, he has the option to say to Irene (the woman who commits suicide with Carley's gun because becoming a walker, in her own words, is "not Christian".) "God bless you".

I think there were a few more religious things in the games, but I'm not sure.
