    73, haha. Heh. Lol. XD

    Yes they can! Dead bodies and walkers can be group members! I'll vote for that.

    "We don't have to all leave," you suggest quietly. "Thalia, Lizzy and Alice could stay here at the meeting place, while Dev, Jack and I go to look for them back at the farm."

    "That's a good idea, but... Are you sure you should be going?" Alice asks you. "Your leg's still healing --"

    "I'm fine, Alice," you tell her. "My sister is one of the people missing. It just makes sense that I help look for her. Dev and Jack, too. Besides, my leg is much better now."

    "Okay," Jack agrees. "As long as someone stays here in case they show up... I'm fine with it."

    Dev nods.

    "Alright," Thalia says. "If you're sure."

    Lizzy, however, still looks like she's not satisfied. "This is stupid," she says. "You're going to get yourselves killed. Devyn, how can you go along with this?"

    Dev doesn't reply, only looks at her sadly.

    "Leave her alone," Jack says. "Her brother's out there too."

    Lizzy huffs angrily, crossing her arms. "Devin's my friend also. But --" She falls silent, meeting Dev's eyes. Dev is still staring at her with a mournful expression, and Lizzy sighs. "Fine, it's not like I can stop you anyway. But I'm coming with you. I'm not letting your stupidity get my my best friend killed."

    You expect Dev to say something to Lizzy, maybe stand up for you and your plan - but again, she says nothing. Instead, she looks at the ground like it's suddenly the most interesting thing in the world. Jack scoffs beside her.

    "Do what you want," he tells Lizzy.

    You look to Thalia, wondering if it's okay with her that Lizzy goes. You don't exactly think it will be easy to stop her if not, but you don't want to completely ignore Thalia's opinion on the matter.

    "It's fine with me," Thalia says. "Alice and I can stay here. We're both good shots; we'll be fine." She frowns. "Normally I'd say you shouldn't travel when it's this close to dark, but as far as we know, every minute counts here - they could be getting farther and farther away as we speak. Just be back by tomorrow, and don't go much farther than the farm."

    You nod. "Right."

    You, Dev, Jack and Lizzy gather your things - just yours and Dev's backpacks and a gun for each of you (you're the only one still in possession of a melee weapon after the quick escape from the farm, and you've left it with Alice) - and move to leave; Alice stops you.

    "Elias, be careful," she tells you.

    "I will," you tell her. "Don't worry."

    ~~~~
    The trip down the road and to the edge of the woods is quiet and uneventful. You and Jack take up the front in a comfortable silence, while Lizzy and Dev follow behind the two of you, conversing in hushed tones. Rain is falling lightly down upon you, not enough to really bother you, but enough to make you feel a little bit cold.
    As you move through the trees, you move your gun up to examine it. Because you'd been in such a hurry to get out of there, none of you had managed to grab any ammo - and Rema, Jen and Pun happened to be the three designated to carry emergency ammo in their packs. You've still got a fair amount, definitely, but if you can get back to the farm and grab any extra, it would definitely be preferred.
    Jack notices your fiddling with the gun and raises an eyebrow at you. "Are you low on ammo?" he asks.
    "No," you say. "Not yet. If we can get to the ammo we had back at the farm, though, we should."
    "Right," he says. "That's a good idea." You think to yourself that there's a definite possibility that bandits had already gotten to it - but you'd stored it in pretty inconspicuous places, so maybe it had survived the raid.
    There's another bit of silence in which the only sound you hear is the rain (not even Lizzy and Dev are speaking now) before you break it again by speaking up.
    "Come on," you say as you lead them towards the path that leads to where you fled the farm. "This way." You won't lie - a small part of you is still hoping you might run into Rema, alive and well. You hadn't seen her die - maybe she got out of there alive.
    Jack nods and follows you, the other two close behind, as you trudge through the woods. The rain is getting heavier, and it's getting difficult to not make a ton of noise on the muddy ground beneath your feet. You're having to pick out a path very carefully, stepping only on the grassier areas to avoid the squelch of sneakers on watery earth.
    Thankfully, no rioters appear to jump you. Yet, at least. Jack, Lizzy and Dev seem to take your hint, following you as quietly as they possibly can. It means that you're traveling slower, but you think you'd rather take that than get stuck out here in the dark chased by a bunch of the dead.
    Suddenly a noise makes you stop in your tracks. There is a shuffling sound from somewhere off to your right, through the trees - like a big, low-moving animal. Figuring you should check it out at the very least - a real meal would be nice - you move off in the direction you heard it, weaving around the trees while still careful to avoid stepping in any puddles or on particularly moist dirt.
    It doesn't take you long to reach the source of the noise - and it's not an animal. Trapped under a fallen log, trying to move but getting nowhere, is a biter. The shuffling sound appears to have come from it; it's struggling, trying to pull itself free, but it's obviously pretty well stuck. As you approach, it raises its head, noticing you, and as you take in the long hair that frames its face and its clothing you take a sudden step back, bumping into Jack. You hear him gasp softly as he realizes the same thing you do.
    It's Rema.
    Her once-pretty face, partially rotted but still recognizable, stares at you with unseeing eyes and a gaping mouth. Her backpack and gun are nowhere to be seen. You feel sick, and it takes all of your willpower not to empty your stomach right then and there. This is your friend - was your friend.
    Slowly, she reaches out an arm towards you, still struggling under the log. If you didn't know any better, you might think she was trying to reach to you for help and not just trying to get to you so she could tear your throat out.
    "Oh, god," Dev chokes from behind you, while Jack has turned away, head in his hands. You don't know what to do. She's not hurting anyone like this, and it feels... wrong... to just -- kill her -- but at the same time, you ... you don't know that you want to leave her like this...
    [Shoot her. You can't leave Rema as one of those things.]
    [Leave her. Save the bullet.]
  • [Shoot her. You can't leave Rema as one of those things.] We should bury her also, she was our friend once.
    How did you create a character submission box? I probably sound really stupid and I'm thinking about starting a fanfic.
  • [Shoot her. You can't leave Rema as one of those things.]
    As much as you don't want to have to shoot your friend, your feelings of trepidation towards shooting her are not as strong as the immense guilt that washes over you. You left her here, let her become one of these things - and you can't bear to leave her like this. To shoot her would only be mercy.
    Sighing, you raise the gun in your shaking hand and point it at her head. She stares up at you, face still uncomprehending of anything, and from behind you Lizzy starts to say something in protest - but you've already pulled the trigger.
    Jack looks up from beside you, uncovering his face to stare at Rema's body, unmoving now and slumped on the ground. "We should bury her," he starts to say. "She--"
    "What was that?!" Lizzy says, voice shriller than usual in her anger. "Why did you do that?"
    "It was our fault she died, Lizzy!" you tell her. "I couldn't leave her as one of those things!"
    "I think Elias is right--" Dev starts, but Lizzy does not even look at her friend, cutting her off as she continues to speak: "It was a waste of a bullet! That thing wasn't hurting anyone anymore!"
    "That thing was our friend!" Jack snaps. "Eli was right to put her out of her misery. It was mercy!"
    "Whatever it was, it was stupid," Lizzy says. "Because now every monster within five miles is going to be on its way here. Three miles, maybe, if we're lucky!"
    "Lizzy, calm down," Dev murmurs, reaching to place a hand on her much taller friend's shoulder.
    "Listen to your friend," Jack tells her angrily. "If anything's going to bring the dead on us, it's your yelling."
    Lizzy opens her mouth as if to yell right back at him again, but then she looks to Dev. A moment of silence passes, until finally she turns away, crossing her arms. "Fine. Whatever. Let's get going and find the others."
    There's another beat of silence, and you can still feel the argument hanging in the air; judging by Jack's and Lizzy's expressions, tensions are still high, and while the argument may have been resolved for the moment, this is far from completely over.
    "Shouldn't we bury her first?" Dev says softly, breaking the silence.
    "We can't," you reply, somber. "We don't have time right now. We have to find the others quickly. We can... we can bury her on the way back."
    "Okay," Jack sighs. "That makes sense." He looks down at your friend's body. "We'll be back ... I promise," he murmurs to her.
    Wordlessly, the four of you turn and start off again through the woods. You glance back at Rema one last time as you go; a familiar feeling of guilt grips you, but you turn your head forwards again, refusing to dwell on it for the moment.
    It doesn't take you long from there to reach the edge of the woods - and as you go farther and farther, you start to hear a noise of some sort in the distance, a low, rumbling sort of sound. You can't quite place it. Before you move to leave the forest, you glance at Jack; judging by his face, he hears it, too.
    The four of you start to emerge from the trees, and immediately stop at what you see.
    In the distance, just past the farm, are rioters - a lot of rioters. You can't even begin to count them. Maybe thousands. You've never seen so many of them before, not in one place. You stare, eyes wide, at the group - which could only be called a herd - and take an involuntary step back.
    "Holy shit," Jack breathes from beside you.
    You squint out at the herd; slow moving as it is, it looks like it's coming this way...
    "What do we do?" Jack whispers, looking at you with eyes as wide and horrified as your own.
    "I don't know," you admit softly. "We need to find the others ..."
    "We could cover ourselves in dead blood and sneak through," Dev suggests in a whisper. You remember that she had mentioned it was how she, Devin and Lizzy traveled before. "But I've never seen so many before... I ... I don't know if it would work..."
    "It would," Lizzy whispers. "But --"
    "How do we know it works at all?" Jack asks, sounding somewhat skeptical. "We could run to the barn and check it before they get here - we've all got guns, we can fight our way out if they reach us in time. Besides... the others couldn't have gotten past this. They're somewhere else."
    "I--" you start.
    "No," Lizzy says firmly. "We need to leave. The others are dead, we can't take any more risks!"
    "What?" Dev says, sounding hurt. "Devin isn't dead! None of them are dead!"
    "We have to find them!" Jack says. "They could still be--"
    "Guys," you interrupt them softly. "There's someone in the house."
    You'd been scanning the area while they argued - you were apprehensive to note that there was no sign of your Uncle Pun's body anywhere; you didn't want to think about the fact that he was probably a biter now - and you had spotted someone in the window. You can't tell who; as the others look, they do so just in time for the figure to move out of the way.
    "What? Where?" Dev says.
    "I didn't see anything," Lizzy mutters.
    "I did," Jack said. "Eli's right! Someone is in there! It could be Stephany and the others! We have to go help them! Maybe they're scared to leave!"
    [You're right, we need to help. We can go in quick, like you said, and fight our way out if necessary.]
