Telltale.. this has to stop..

edited August 2014 in The Walking Dead

This has been brought up many times but let me say it nice and politely to you guys... YOUR EPISODES ARE TOO FUCKING SHORT! These 90 minute episodes are really lowering the quantity and quality of the game... No hubs, less exploring, less conversations.. less puzzles... The episodes are so short that we havent even had a chance to click on some of the characters from episode one of season 2 and have a conversation with them..

S1E1: around 2 hours

S1E2: around 2 and a half hours

S1E3: around 2 and a half hours

S1E4: Almost 3 hours

S1E5: One hour and 40 minutes ( still longer than season twos longest episode so far)

Season 2 length

S2E1: One and a half hours

S2E2: One hour and 35 minutes

S2E3: One hour and 20 minutes

S2E4: One hour and 50 minutes - at most 2 hours.

S2E5: Around the same as episode 4.

The Wolf among us

Faith: Almost 2 hours

Smoke and Mirrors: 1 hour and 30 mins (Downhill)

A Crooked mile: 1 hour and 25 minutes

In Sheep's Clothing: 1 hour and 15 minutes

Cry Wolf: 1 hour and 10 minutes

The walking dead is not the only victim of this, The Wolf Among us has now been confirmed at a length of 1 hour and 10 minutes, I will say I thought it was a great episode that had a lot of action and wrapped up everything nicely but it was one of the shortest episode telltale has made recently... There could of been more in the finale..

You have used the excuse that people "want" to play it in one sitting... But are you sure thats the reason you did this? You didn't do this because your working on 10 different projects and you have cluttered yourself to hell and thats why every episode comes out late and is short?

Should I also point out that your way off target release dates add to the infuriation?

  • Its funny how they describe it as "one sitting gameplay length" when i sit down to play a game im engrossed in, such as resident evil and final fantasys back in the day, one of my sittings was anything from 6-10 hours a sitting, which leaves me craving more the next day and excited to pick it back up, lol, i can sit and play TWD season 1 in one sitting let alone one episode of TWAU or of TWD season 2..

  • Damn right. I love these games but they shadow in comparison to the amazing and might I add lengthy hub filled epics from season 1.

  • It has been said many times so do you think another post complaining about it is going to help?

  • It's true, but doesn't working at four games at once kind of make it harder to do? They were only working on one game all of the walking dead season 1. The good hopeful good news is for twd ep.4 s2 the size of the episode is 1.9GB which is 200MB higher than 'In Harms Way' or 'A House Divided'

  • Well, I just want to point out that I would love if the episodes were more longer than a hour and half. Why can't all have 2hr ? That would be perf

  • Yes. People have to start talking if they want telltale to realise.

  • But according to your own stats, the complaining hasn't changed a thing. If they feel like the next episodes need to be longer they will, but I doubt it will have anything to do with fan complaints, and everything to do with the story they're trying to tell.

  • Damn straight, the new TWAU episode is supposedly gonna be 50 minutes long. How the hell can they explain the whole murder and shit in 50 minutes!? They need to explain everything.

  • It is a bit irritating there's a lot these threads, I think we've already figured out the main issue.

  • The story of season 2 has been fantastic so far, no complaints about that.. Thats why they make it episodic.. so they can get fan feedback between episodes while they are making the next and improve on it. But if their is no voice to tell them what to improve on nothing will be taken into consideration.

  • Dude... We tried making a petition, raising awareness, they won't listen :(

Yeah, I really miss the hubs. They were a great way of providing extra play time and really allowed us to get to know the characters more. I do like the new characters of S2, but I don't feel nearly as attached to them as I did with the S1 characters. I think if we had hubs like in S1, I'd care for them more because I'd have opportunities to just take a breather from the action and talk. The Ski Lodge in episode two, and the beginning of episode 3 could have been perfect spots for hubs too.

It's a shame, but I'm still really enjoying S2. I just hope if they're making a S3, they'll put more effort into providing more content in each episode.

  • I have to agree. Length really doesn't bother me that much, but it'd really be nice to have a 2 hour episode.

They will listen if enough people get behind it.. Like the xbox "always online" shit that was very heavily protested against they got rid of it... anyway was just discussing and addressing the latest issues.

I guess that's one of the cons in making the game in 4 weeks....

  • Thats a good idea :)

  • Exactly! I mean we havent even had a chance to click on Luke and talk to him yet... and he appeared in episode one

They managed to do it with TWD season one... Telltale really brought this upon themselves with all the cluttered projects...

  • Exactly, Telltale needs to stop being heroic and taking 4 games at once, they need to stop hoarding more titles and finish with this project before starting another, because all the games' quality is going down because of that.

  • The good news is that twau is almost done and once it is the wont be releasing Tales from the borderlands until twd is finished. So we can assume the Walking Dead team will be bigger for Episode 4 and Episode 5.

Telltale, who complains about an episode being to long? Almost nobody. Who complains about episodes being to short? Almost everyone.

  • It would be nice. I still want to get to know the characters more. Hopefully, what we saw of the 400 days characters wasn't all of it. They can still bring them back.

And have you also noticed that we've never had a time to actually choose the topic of a conversation? In Season 1, when starting a conversation, there was no time limit and you could ask things like:

    • About the guns...
    • Do you know anything about this flashlight?
    • Do you have any thoughts about Lilly?
    • Goodbye

But in Season 2, when you start a conversation, you just get a short little exchange, with no freedom on what topic to discuss. This has disappointed me slightly.

    Exactly!

Lenght does matter. Short episodes suffer from lack of content, and it's a real problem. Isn't the emotions a big thing in TWD? How in the fuck can I feel sad if some character dies because I don't even know a shit about him/her and heard only couple of sentences coming out of his/her mouth?!

    C'mon telltale, TWD season 1 was a masterpiece, don't ruin it's name.

Not going to stop. The Wolf Among Us is almost done, and now the homepages is advertising Borderlands... Two series rushed out rather than a fine attention to one alone.

Or Telltale could hire more staff; I know absolutely nothing about programming, but I assure you I'm willing to learn and very desperate for work! And I am willing to undertake great humiliation if payment is involved.

  • They already addressed the issue if I recall correctly.

Their excuse was "we want players to be able to play and complete the episode in one sitting" or something. Greeeat. Thaaanks...

Telltale, we are fine, thank you for your concern, but I think it is safe to say that most of us would much prefer more content to chew at our own pace rather than tiny chunks that we can immediately swallow.

That said, is 2 and a half hours REALLY that long of a session for gaming?

  • edited July 2014

S2E1: One and a half hours

S2E2: One hour and 35 minutes

S2E3: One hour and 20 minutes

Really? For me they've been getting longer. I've been timing them and excluding loading screens:

    All That Remains: 1:36:47

    A House Divided: 1:51:52

    In Harm's Way: 1:54:59

Dunno why I'm getting downvotes when those are legitimately my times and I'm stating facts.

  • I was joking, I'm not trying to get a job with Telltale.

Though I should say (not to toot my own horn, I'm just well over college age) I do have a bachelor's, just nothing to do with gaming though.

Actually, I'm worse off than unemployed: I'm a Grad student.
