A lot of raw emotional drama comes from him.

And, in fact, his irrelevance has grown to the point of me wanting to just waste his selfish hypocritical ass. Not because it's what Clementine would do, but because he has such a substantial hold on the narrative, that the plot of season two hasn't really gone anywhere since he entered back in episode two. So, In a way, I'd be sparing Clementine from him.
I liked him in season 1. As a character, not as a person.
In season 2 he is becoming more tiresome as a character and more tiresome as a person. He always tries to boss everyone around, he thinks the world centers on him, and he's only around because of fanservice which lowers his quality as a character significantly.
It's his time to go while some people like him. As time goes on more and more people are turning against him, and if telltale do something ridiculous like make him the protagonist of season 3...well, yeah.
That said, I hope the people who do still like him get a chance to say goodbye, which I can use to say F off
