Anyone else wanted the option to abandon the baby?
I chose to have my Clementine go at it alone in the end. I was a little annoyed that the game forced me to take the baby. I was hoping we would atleast get the option of leaving the baby with Kenny/Jane or just straight up abandoning it if they are both dead (I'm not sure if they can both die or not). Yes it sounds cruel but we are talking about survival here. How is an 11 year old girl supposed to take care of an infant on her own in a wilderness packed with walkers? Won't the constant crying draw attention to them? What does she feed him with? What if the baby gets sick? What if he suffers an injury? There are literally a million different ways for the baby to die and get Clem killed in the process. Seems like a really huge burden imo. Is it really worth it to risk Clementine's life like that? Is it really that monstrous to not want to take that risk?

I tried to leave it in the beginning but Fn Luke...

There's a certain line between game choice and canon. Canon Clem isn't a douche so she wouldn't do that. Unless a character doesn't care if humanity has a future, there's no reason to screw the hope of a new generation in a zombie apocalypse game
Psh, too bad for you.
Wow, whore?
Yeah, her actions are stupid, but she isn't a whore.
But think about it. All that constant crying will keep drawing walkers and if walkers do come, how is Clem supposed to fight them while looking out for the baby? The scene at the end where she just walks through the walker herd with the baby was a little dumb imo. What if the baby starts crying? The walkers will be able to tell that he's a human and not a zombie. Hell, even in episode 4, Jane constantly tells everyone to keep quiet to prevent the walkers from detecting them. Surviving alone is dangerous enough. Trying to survive with a baby is downright suicide. I don't see how it makes you a douche to not wanna go through with such a ridiculously dangerous task. Its pretty human imo. i mean if we had a group then its plausible to look after baby. But when you're by yourself? I mean come on, its unrealistic to assume that everyone should be up to that task...
Yes, she is, and I am so happy that she got stabbed by kenny.
Just... Another 12 year old troll... Move along people...
We need the Downvotes back!
Yeah, the game forces Clem to like AJ. I went for cover for the first decision but then Luke ended up getting it. I tried to interact with it as little as possible for the rest of the episode to prevent my overall experience getting slightly worse. It doesn't have to die, I would just prefer if I don't have to deal with it anymore, like somebody else can go take care of it or something.
Come on people, it would've been an interesting moral dilemma. Are you willing to risk your own life for a helpless infant or will you make the grim choice of abandoning him so as to improve your odds at survival? And as Rigtail mentioned above, abandoning the baby doesn't have to lead to its death. We could've left him with Kenny/Jane.
You're thinking from the frame of mind of a person not living in an end of the world scenario. Abandoning/killing the baby isn't as black and white in the games world as it is in this world.
On one side the baby is a liability. Not only do you need to keep searching for formula which I assume is rare but the cries of the baby will constantly alert and attract walkers. The baby risks the lives of other fellow survivor and what do you think the probability of the baby surviving even is? Do you think it's a worthwhile risk. Not to mention the fact that the baby is born into a harsh and cruel world where at any second it could die a vicious death.
On the other side of things I guess the baby can be viewed as a beacon of a hope. A bright light in a dark and evil world and something worth living for.
Like I said, it's not as black and white in the walking dead universe.
shame on you just like Mike and Bonny
fuck the baby eh?
Clem really does that in another ending? o.o I kind of like that and kind of agree with you :P It seems kind of inhuman to abandon it actually. If you don't even attempt to help it you don't care if humanity has a future, it seems like you'd be living but what would you have besides that?
I actually died right at the start of the episode because I was supposed to crawl to the baby and I waited because I thought crawling into gunfire was crazy.
Eventually Clem gets shot if you don't get the baby, though.
This is exactly my point. The context of the situation is very important. Abandoning the baby doesn't automatically make you evil. It just means you aren't willing to risk your life raising an infant in a world where there are a million different ways he could die at any time and get you killed in the process.
I actually thought at first that that was going to be the tough final moral dilemma of the season finale, I was worried they were going to make you decide if the baby survives or maybe give players the option to abandon it. I thought it might have also boiled down to a choice btn the baby and another survivor like Kenny or even Clem. That would have been really sad but having the baby around is a liability because as others have mentioned the crying places a person in constant danger. At least you know he will probably be safe if you end up in Wellington. I would have liked the option to just leave the baby at Wellington and head out w/ Kenny.
Its easy to say that now in the real world but imagine if you were living in a zombie apocalypse. Would you seriously be brave enough to raise a baby on your own in a wilderness packed with walkers? Can you really blame people for not wanting such massive responsibility on their shoulders when its hard enough to take care of themselves?
That's kinda what makes me want to play as someone a little more sinister than Lee or Clementine in Season 3 (Lilly, Lilly, Lilly...). Kind of like Bigby Wolf, but a little more sinister. Someone who's only goal in the beginning to protect their own ass and forget anybody else.
Good idea, but isn't one of the best parts of the game the characters and character development? If we lone wolf it'd not only be boring with no one to talk to but we wouldn't get the scenes that make the game so good
People like you make me regret not shooting Kenny in some of my playthroughs.
I want AJ to stay at Wellington, but just him.
About the only thing i hated about Ep5 is the forced relationship between Clem and the baby.
You wouldn't survive a day in a real zombie apocalypse. Have fun carrying a death trap.
HOLY SHIT! SO DID I, NO JOKE!
When you die of natural causes or just die, you turn into a walker. No hope for humanity.
Abandon the baby? I can't possibly think of a context in which that would be okay to me. Is it an added risk? Sure, but so what? I'll gladly take on that added risk instead of abandoning a helpless baby to certain death. Even in the zombie apocalypse you still have to be able to live with yourself, and I don't think I'd be able to live with that.
Better trying than abandoning any hope of future
They work out things for that. Woodbury, Prison, Alexandria, Hilltop, Carver Camp and Wellington
Absolutely. I hated her forced reaction when she took it from the car like it was her own fucking baby.
Baby walkers in season 3 plox.
Exactly! #MyClementine wouldn't interact with the child, she would have somebody else take care of it so she doesn't have to deal with it at all. C'mon Telltale, give us the option to hate/love ANY character! Now I guess I know what it feels like for Kenny haters because Telltale expects every players to like both Kenny and AJ.
They'd look... Too creepy.
Aye. Kenny is a writer's favorite, But we really got what we wanted and I don't really hate Kenny that much in order to complain. I see it more of a Lilly 2.0 "Kenny" vs Carley 2.0 "Jane".
The Kenny and Jane hate is stupid as fuck, but people actually wanting the baby gone is the top of the shit mountain.
There is something people don't get when talking about Clementine's relationships.
You are not Clementine. There are no "forced" relationships and no such thing as "your" Clementine.
Clementine is a developed character, just as Kenny, Jane, Luke etc are. Contrary to popular belief, you do not mold Clementine into your own image.
She has a defined personality, and you as the player are able to choose certain nuances in this personality. It was the same deal with Lee.
Clementine loved Lee. She felt a connection to Kenny. She feels responsible for AJ. These are all facts, not choices. This is Clementine.
Regarding the decision of leaving a baby behind, I can't really see the justification for it.
This is a zombie apocalypse, I get that. A baby is dangerous to have around and will most certainly get you killed at some point. So yes. You could leave it behind to die, and as a result you might live for a little while longer. But then what's the point? This is one of the major themes in The Walking Dead in general. If this is what we allow ourselves to turn into, what's the point of trying to stay alive? What are you living for?
For some people it seems like staying alive would be the primary goal. Not for me. The primary goal is staying human. If we let go of everything that matters to us, we might as well die. Surviving becomes a primal instinct instead of an actual choice.
Kenny wanted the kids safe. That's all he wanted. As soon as he saw an opportunity for that, he didn't hesitate to sacrifice himself for it. He will most likely die alone out there. He knew that and he didn't care. Because he knew he was dying for something important. Same thing with Lee. I'm not a Kenny apologist, he made tons of mistakes. But for all his faults, he never lost sight of what was truly important about surviving in a ZA.
It might sound cheesy as fuck, but in this situation the important thing is not to keep on living but to keep being human. Staying human is the reason you stay alive.
This is what Jane never understood.
....What?
I just can't get it... I mean, yeah the baby is a problem BUT, someday humans will have to start making babies and have them live, otherwise the humanity is going to end. So, in my eyes, the "survivilist" stuff is just a way to end the world. Yeah, you survive and get another day living, so what?
I really think that, maybe the walkers just changed the food chain, humans WILL have to learn how to raise a child among walkers, think like the walkers are the predators, like animals who have very dangerous predators but they managed to find a way to live and continue their species, and someday being among walkers will be just a everyday stuff.
The person who wrote this discussion must be from Crawford!
HOPE? Dude, EVERYONE turns when they die. No hope
There is Communities make systems on dealing with anyone turned, Woodbury, Prison, Alexandria and Hilltop. Carver Camp and Wellington in the game so far
