If I were penning Season 3, I'd switch to a different protagonist (i.e., playable character) than Clementine. Yet, I wouldn't abandon her st… moreory. Instead, much like Lee served as the protagonist in Season 1, but the story was still about Clementine, I'd set up Season 3 to do the same. That's why the protagonist I'd choose for Season 3 would be...her uncle. Another father-figure type. Someone who lived apart from Clementine's family when the zombie outbreak occurred. And, for him, his personal journey is an attempt to rejoin his brother's family (and hence, Clementine...because we already know her parents are dead).
I'd open the first episode of Season 3 with her uncle having finally made his way to Clementine's home, only to discover the dead babysitter...the same message on the answering machine from her mom...and I'd even let him discover a camcorder with the home movie the babysitter took of Clem discovering those baby raccoons in her tr… [view original content]
It happened very recently and is the key reason why I think Clem will still be the protagonist.
5 endings can be resolved very easily wit… moreh a timeskip and since the comic just skipped, it makes sense the game would too.
It's my hope that Clem eventually ends up with Rick's crew. Carl and Clem would be a cute couple.
The problem is that Telltale could just perpetually create new "issues" for Clementine just to artificially extend her story arc. I feel as though Clementine has concluded her journey and that wherever she goes, it won't take her actual character anywhere wildly new or exciting.
Then again, I'm not a professional writer and this is all going off vague accusations. For all I know her story could just be getting to the truly interesting pieces... But I still don't think it's entirely necessary.
Really no new problems?? with every ending there was there is a way to continue. yes the problem would be how to continue and bringing all e… morendings and continue in a place where they are at the same place, but it could be done. I cant see how people see it as over. she has a fucking baby with her, that's a NEW problem. and your talking about movies, and the road, I kinda wanted to see a sequel. the ending was kinda sad as the S1 ending, but not too close to that level. and besides it was what?? 1:30 hrs long, where the game has been how ever long it has been between the 2 season.
I even found Carl to be plain irritating at times throughout the TV series, and probably wouldn't even remotely care if he died. Clem's a wh… moreole different story, though... Telltale ingeniously make you love her as a sister/daughter and keep you fully engrossed in their vision.
Any chance you could influence the Telltale writers into making Clem our Season 3 protagonist with the power of the force, Master Yoda? A mind trick or two should do it.
I don't think the game has overshadowed the whole franchise. Whenever I talk about the Walking Dead people think about the TV show and Rick, Carl, Daryl and Glen. Whenever I tell them there's a video game that is separate from the TV show they never even heard about it. I guess it's probably because mainstream society is still oblivious to Video Games
heh the game has already overshadowed everything kirkman has ever done. I and love the comics and I really like the show, I started watching when it first came out.
Most of the people I've asked about it heard about the game but ignorantly dismissed it as a boring point and click adventure with no real depth, and to their credit, that's what I did originally. On one boring Sunday afternoon I figured I'd download the free first episode of Season 1 and low and behold, I became obsessed shortly after.

yeah true but I was speaking for myself, that was my mistake that I didn't explained myself right. and I think that is mostly because of the type of generation we live today. not everyone plays video games, and the show, the fans, are not the same as it was in season one. now everyone knows it and they don't even know it comes from the comics. and people that do play games are not gamers, they play the popular games COD, GTA ( which I love completely) fifa, madden games that are very popular, so a point and click game probably doesn't draw their attention, I know it didn't first for me, so I think that really play a big part. So like I said to me it has. but I still think of the show first cuz it was the first walking dead I experienced.

The show was also my first Walking Dead experience. And I was a big fan of the show until I started playing the game and then that was when I jumped ship and became fully devoted to the Telltale version. Agree with you I do. A lot of "gamers" who play video games have little regard to the narrative value of the medium. They don't treat the medium as an art but instead they look at it as just a "game". It forces video game companies to cater to the ignorant masses by making games that have little to no artistic value such as Call of Duty or Madden.

I love Clementine's character, but I hope that Telltale has a tighter focus on how to make a child the focal point if she's the protagonsist next season.
e.g. Acknowledge realistic strengths on her part. Don't make the rest of the cast too incompetent for the sake of having them rely on an eleven-year-old to accomplish everything.
Yeah, you've got a point. Making Clementine more capable than tons of adults in many instances just so the player had something to do was pretty cheap.

yeah I forgot to go into detail about how some people don't care much about the story/narrative and only care about the gameplay, it is essential, but all they care is online. that's why COD and all those games are so popular, although I like almost all the COD stories.(they are not the best but still I like how they flip history). and I still really like the show, and I think that s4 was one of the best next to S1. S2 was too slow paced, and only stayed on the farm, ehh, the best episodes were the ones that Scott Gimple wrote. S3 started awesome, and it shitted on it with the other half, again still cool and best episodes where the ones that Mr. Gimple wrote ( fuck Glenn Mazarra). for S5 idk how to feel though. that trailer looked like it was going to a high actions, hollywood shit, so im not so excited, maybe they prove me wrong. but yeah to me the game is the superior of all Walking Dead. which is why I think kirkman is going that other game, is he going to be more involve on that game, the Washington one??, to maybe fell like maybe I can surpass that one.

OVERKILL's co-op Walking Dead game set in Washington definitely looks promising. I spoke to the game's producer, Almir, and he said they're gonna write their own stories and develop their own characters for the universe... Their studio's not exactly renowned for pumping out epic storylines but it should be cool to see what they come up with. Even if narrative ends up falling short, I've no doubt they'll at least release a game with phenomenal, addictive gameplay like PAYDAY 2's which they also created.

The reason I don't want her as a protagonist is because I do not see a way Telltale can make a good season 3 with Clementine due to all the different endings. Making a single story where Kenny/Jane dies and Clementine ends up in the same situation regardless of season 3 ending will just seem forced. So unless Telltale gets incredibly ambitious and finds a way to make your choices have weight (which can be done, but would be incredibly hard) I say focus on a new story.
I never understood the reason why some people want Clementine's story to end at Season 2. Season 3 without Clem is a significant step backwa… morerds for Telltale. Clementine is a extremely exceptional video game character. she can't go to waste. I guess the reason why some people don't want Clem in season 3 is because deep down she is too good for The Walking Dead. She's far more compelling than the TV and Comic Characters. I wouldn't be surprised if Robert Kirkman is afraid of her because her character can potentially overshadow all of his creations
I think they're going to attempt to make each ending tie into Season 3's introduction nicely judging by what's said here. They obviously cared about making Season 2's finale brilliant so I believe they'll put full effort into making Season 3 the best one yet.

Sometimes it's logical that she was the one doing the things (rope that doesn't support much weight, go check on jane/mike&bonnie cos everyone else already had their jobs), but sometimes it was weird yeah - I mean it's nice that Clem's dad was engineer, but I'm pretty sure he didn't teach his 8 years old daughter any engineer tricks yet (even though the situation was pretty simple, but then why everyone else said they're clueless how to do it...)
Could have been handled better yeah, Clem's strength is also sometimes logical and sometimes not, but that issue started already when she even 2 years younger dragged Lee through the garage door.
Yeah, you've got a point. Making Clementine more capable than tons of adults in many instances just so the player had something to do was pretty cheap.
Ye I agree, I would like to continue as Clem, if season 2 moved away from Clementine then the 2 seasons would be in vain because all the endings were to open ended, as you implied. Playing as another character would not go well when it comes to storytelling, considering the playstyle of the different players. How would her personality be like?
To not forget the baby. The reason I took care of A.J was for respect towards Alvin and Rebecca, to not forget about Kenny's last wish. It would be stupid if TellTale had to force it down our throats Clem's thought and caring towards A.J.

Well I would love to see her as the protagonist of Season 3.
However, I'm not sure how they can pull that off now that they decided to end the season with several possible endings. It would require a great effort on TT's part to make a several different introduction for the new season depending on the player's choices at the of S2Ep5. I think the season ended the way it did for a reason, they wanted to give everyone a chance to decide (most likely for the last time) who their Clementine will become and how her story will end. Thus making everyone relatively content about her fate.
My vision is: I think the Clementine story should end in the second season. But they left too many opened doors and now perhabs the third season must be the last. The story don't need to be too long, but good. You know the movies with too many parts usually becomes booring after the second part. So I just wanna Telltale to save the good story about Clementine.
After this they may start something different as 400 days for example.
Why would you even bother calling it Season Three if it focuses on a brand new character? I notice people saying new protagonist all the time but they actually forgot that if they just changed the setting and the character, why bother calling it a Season three at all if it doesn't follow the same story arc as the past two seasons? That's like making a trilogy and out-of-the-blue, the third one has no relevance to the previous entries. Whenever that happens, I even find it more somewhat insulting to the fans that invested in the series.
To me, Season Three should either still focus on Clementine, or reboot and not even call it Season Three if they decide to focus on a brand new character. Transitioning from Lee to Clem worked, because as Lee you trained her to take care of herself. I didn't even see a way they COULD change the protagonist unless this is truly the end of the story. And if it was, I would've preferred if this was the series finale.
I'll say it again, Season Three would work wonders if it featured an older Clementine taking care of AJ in a very similar way to how Lee once took care of her. Making it somewhat symbolic to the first season while still being drastically different. Heck, I speculated this way back when Rebecca was still pregnant. I always said that no matter how Season Two ended, Clem would end up being with the baby. Can't believe I turned out right in that aspect. To me, that's where the continuation SHOULD go since from a writing standpoint it would be pretty cool and would allow us to see progression on both sides.
Clementine is also a young character, her character development is literally endless. If they were to just wrap up her arc now thanks to people complaining about not wanting to play as a kid Telltale would really be missing out on some golden storytelling opportunities.

I just feel there'd be no point to any kind of storyline not involving Clementine. It would be so unbelievably wasteful. I like it bro nice work.
Clem would be the man of that relationship. Corals a pussy.
Seeing those two meet would be interesting as hell, that's for sure. Together they'd probably be unstoppable zombie killing machines.

Alfred's opinion on a season 3 without Clementine

Id prefer clem as a deuteragonist because as an adult we'd have more options, like flat out kill someone IE. Ben, Andy, Danny

Game started with Clem
Now damn finish with her
No point in making things confusing and shifting characters and fucking everything up...
Getting this to 100 likes would be glorious... We must spread the Cleminism.
The great Gavin has spoken, and I completely agree with him. A timeskip is the way forward.
Maybe we'll see a DLC sort of like 400 Days where everyone can play as their S2 ending and finishes with a perfect tie-in to S3.
That'd be nice. Would momentarily keep the fans sane during the huge wait for Season 3.
Yup, if my Clem had the opportunity to pass AJ onto a family she would take it, mainly because of fear of abandonment/loss more than anything else.

Yeah, it'd be horrendous if her development was just linear and her characteristics delved away from what I wanted them to be.
