Has anybody else heard this about Daryl Dixon?

edited September 2014 in The Walking Dead

Ok, recently I heard that there are some who seem to think that Daryl, who next to Rick and Hershel is my favorite character on the series, that he might be homosexual.
In fact, I even heard a rumor that states that the creators of the series have toyed with that idea.
One thing I will say, if they did decide to do that, it would be a hell of a twist.

Me personally, I hope that they don't make him a homosexual.
While I try to show respect for homosexuals, I do not like what they are.
I especially don't like that they continually try to shove their lifestyle down our throats.
They want everyone to tolerate them, and yet that kind of behavior in itself is highly intolerant on their part.
If you ask me, that's a huge example of a double-standard.

I grew up with belief: "It's Adam&Eve, not Adam&Steve!"
And it's a view I'll maintain for the rest of my life.

Now I know that many will say I'm "homophobic."
But that is not correct.
The word phobia, implies fear; or being afraid of something.
And I'm not afraid of homosexuals.
As I said before, I do not like what they do.
Fearing something, and not liking something, are two completely different things.

Anyway back to Daryl.
Not only do I hope they don't make him homosexual, but I also feel it would be terribly unrealistic.
Given Daryl's upbringing, I do not see him swinging that way.
And also, given his upbringing, I doubt anyone in his family, particularly his brother, would approve of such a thing.

Plus if you remember, him and Carol were pretty close.
It was indicated several times on the show that they had a romantic interest in each other.
And when him and Beth were traveling together for a while, they got pretty close as well, almost looked like they were starting to become romantically interested in each other.

When we first met him in Season 1, he struck me as straight.
And based on what I've seen over the last 4-almost 5 seasons now, I'd say good old Daryl is 100% straight.

NOTICE: While I do not like homosexuals, I still will try to treat them in a respectful manner, which I've demonstrated by not calling them by any derogatory name.
And all I ask in return, is that they show me the same courtesy.

I´ve heard rumours about it but I don´t know how valid this information is.

If he is, I´m fine with it. If he isn´t, I´m also fine with it. It´s not my place to judge.

    However...

Me personally, I hope that they don't make him a homosexual. While I try to show respect for homosexuals, I do not like what they are. I especially don't like that they continually try to shove their lifestyle down our throats. They want everyone to tolerate them, and yet that kind of behavior in itself is highly intolerant on their part.

    ...You´re trolling,right?

    PLEASE be trolling. PLEASE.

Homophobia is a misnomer. It's not a phobia, it's being a judgmental prick. Homophobia against gay people means the same thing as racism against ethnic minorities.

I'm curious. When did you think Walter and Matthew shoved their lifestyle down your throat? When have I shoved my 'lifestyle' down your throat?

Also, it's not really a lifestyle. I mean, I guess being gay is a lifestyle as much as being straight is, or being male is, or being Chinese is.

But, again, for the sake of my faith in humanity, PLEASE be trolling.

Oh and PLEASE don't let this thread get upvotes.

  • i think its just rumours i would have no problems with it but fans may get annoyed especially the millions of female fans who fancy the ass of him

  • Also, you saying Daryl just 'struck' you as straight when you first saw him is as clear as bigotry gets. You assumed he was straight because of his appearance or personal qualities.

Being gay doesn't make you look a certain way, nor act a certain way.

dafuq? And what are you doing in this post if not shove your lifestyle down this forum´s troath, genius?

  • "Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve!"

Stopped reading after that. Another devout Christian, it seems.

  • Your arguments that he 'shows interest in women' are compeltely misjudged as well because:

    1) That is arbitrary evidence governed by opinion, not fact

    and

    2) He could be attracted to both me and women.

  • Yeah... It makes such a huge difference if he like cocks instead of fanny. I hope he turns out gay, just so all the idiots get mad.

  • This.

  • What gave you that impression?

There are hints that he may be attracted to ladies, but there are no hints that he isn't attracted to men, which is what being a straight man is.

  • For once, zyke... I agree with you. High five! ;)

  • No offense but what does it matter if a fictional character is gay or not? I don't get it.

  • Does being a Southerner explain your dislike for gays? I guess it would, but I still think it's a personal issue with gays rather than the one defined by your upbringing, though I'm not denying that it played it's role.

Because he is a easily offended douche that would stop watching TWD because 'hur dur dur homosexuality is evil'

  • Being brought up in a homophobic area does not jusify homophobia itself.

Just like being brought up in the middle east doesn't justify extreme sexist views, and being brought up in Uganda doesn't justify thinking gay people deserve the death penalty.

Idiotic and harmful beliefs that lead to gay people having the highest suicide rate of any group of people do not deserve respect.

    They need to change.

  • Daryl is my favorite character on the show. Whether or not he is gay will have no impact on that whatsoever, and I honestly couldn't care less.

  • Who honestly gives a shit if he likes men? he is still the same ol Daryl that everyone loves. (thought i don't like him but lets not discuss that now)

  • Like I don't understand that.

It's like....if you're brought up to be a murderer, that doesn't make murder moral or acceptable.

  • He isn't gay in real life, i don't think. He was married, but got a divorce. So what does it matter if he is gay in a tv show. I think this whole thread is a trick, like maybe bating us to get us angry.

Here i thought this thread before reading the post was going to be on "Silent Hills."

So what if this was a sarcasm? My point hasn't changed.
