What's With People Refusing To Accept Clem's Race?

  • oh my gosh you always know when to use the right gifs

  • It's not that. Some people deny the fact that she is African-American.

I don´t know why her being African-American would even bother anyone. Does anything about her personality or character change because of that? Not really. She could be green for all I care. I love her anyway.

  • Hmm I don't think we should categorize racists in their own "league".
They are people like you and me with different opinions, I accept it as long as they don't push their ideas onto me and as long as they don't harm others. I think it's stupid to be racist but not all of them are psychopaths.

    Racists vs normal people?

  • Yeah, but I think that some people deny it because African-American bothers them for some shallow reason. Because.. I don´t know, she´s pretty clearly not white when you look at her.

  • May I ask a better question? Why the fuck does anyone care what race she is?

    Clementine Walking Dead Wikia

  • The reason is simple. I mean people call Jesus white... Same thing.

  • Because intolerant douchebangs still play video games.

  • looks pretty mixed to me, no matter what the devs say

  • But the devs have said it, so is canon.

looks pretty mixed to me, no matter what the devs say

  • When I first met her I figured she got her looks from her mother, but this girl is definitely African American and that's fine by me. If you want a white Clem just pause the game after she's been rescued from the ice lake, she becomes very pale which was a really neat detail.

  • hmmmm. This is news to me. Outside of a distinct accent, I figured she was Hispanic, maybe even part Native.

  • To be honest I thought she was Hispanic, until I read it on the wiki that she was African-American. I personally haven't seen anyone who argued over that she is white or not, until this thread came along...

  • It's a minute detail, yeah, but I really don't understand why people are getting bent out of shape over the race of the character?

Clearly, it doesn't matter to me. I was just confused why people care so much.

    Does it matter?

it does matter what race she is.

there are no good female ethnic preteen protagonists in gaming like her. to get just one of this adjectives is rare.

  • Oh great it's Rue all over again...despite the book telling you she had darker skin(I don't remember the exact quote but it in no way could have described someone white), far too many people were upset Rue was black in the movie -_-

  • they are not racist, she is as light skinned as you can get, for an African-American

I see all these people saying that she's straight white? So it turns up people are racist...

  • Ah, ah, ah, good one...

    Wait, you were serious?

And? Your opinion is meanigless if we have already have a canon:

    Clementine´s ethnicity

i still thinks she looks asian (not racist in anyway, I'm against racism)

  • I said i Think she LOOKS asian, i never Said she was asian

  • Isn't Russel hispanic? Tellatale needs to give accents, everyone knew where Carlos was from!

  • I was thinking the exact same thing, the whole Hunger Games/Rue debacle.

  • She looks white/mixed whatever the devs say. I mean compare her to gill when hes stood next to her, shes a way lighter toned

  • I said i Think she LOOKS asian, i never Said she was asian

Well, that the devs admitted they put Asian features of Clem. I think. I may be misremembering.

  • She's still african-american though ;)

  • I didn't even notice. Why does it matter what race she is anyways? It doesn't matter, it in no way affects the game.

  • She doesnt look white to me. She has a distinct brown tone to her skin. She just happens to be very light skinned. Maybe her mother is mixed but her father is definitely black.

  • It botheres them because they are racists. The end.

  • Lots and lots and lots of reasons. Reasons that you are obviously too ignorant to figure out on your own -_-

  • She only looks white if you are an ignorant prat who thinks black people come in one shade -_- Skin tone can vary greatly. Kerry Washington is also "lighter toned" but that doesn't make her white or mixed.

  • We do not need another thread debating Clem's race. Some think she's 100% black, some think she's mixed. Why is it such a big deal.

  • I don't know why people get so bothered. Clem is Clem and she happens to be African-American. I don't understand the debate about her parents, they are both black. African-Americans come in all colors. I'm a very light skinned African-American with family that ranges from very dark-skinned to practically white skinned, but we're still black. I don't see Asian or white at all when I look at her mom, I see a light skinned black person. Same goes for Clementine, they literally look like some of my relatives.

The fact is the people that created Clementine confirmed she was African-American a long time ago, so the debate should have died a long time ago. Either way, we all still love her.

  • This thread is horrible. Whats worse then the people insisting she is white? The people who keep asking "who cares?". How ignorant can you get -_-

  • What makes you think Russell was hispanic?

  • Developers confirmed she was african american. I don't get why they made her so light though. Even Nick is darker than her.
