Rick had Cop's intuition, and anyone could see that the guys were shifty and when they positioned themselves around Rick, one talking about wanting girls also. I don't know where you got that idea from that they were into organised crime, family or even knew each other before walkers, but okai, odd, also the translations make it obvious they didn't aim to kill anyone. Natasha says to Arvo just grab the meds and move, Vitali and Natasha tell Buricko not to shoot and ask Arvo what is happening, they're scared. Only Buricko seems calm or into it.
Also, jovial is an emotion you'd get if you found the people who took supplies you desperately need. Arvo kind of needed that gun, and I doubt he would've joined the shooting, his hands shook in Ep4 when he met Clem.
When was it said that the house across the lake wasn't the camp? I'd sympathise with him for telling lies to survive, anyone would, even more to enemies if they had to. Arvo was not obviously a bandit, we don't know. He certainly doesn't seem like a bandit given his reaction to meeting Clem, the group having a little baby, and that his people except Buricko seem to want no violence in the holdup part
So when Rick killed the guys in the bar where Herschel was drinking, in particular the one who was trying to simper and beg and seem useful … moreafter he was decommissioned as a threat; that was the "Shane" POV because that guy hadn't actively tried to kill anyone for upwards of an entire minute?
That's essentially our situation here. Arvo led his family of bandits to the group. The subtext (i thought) was pretty clear that Arvo's family was in organized crime, likely gun-running, before everything went to pot. They weren't messing around. Their aim was to KILL EVERYONE. Whether that was by taking eveything and leaving the group destitute, defenseless, and hopeless in the icy midwestern wilderness, or by riddling with bullets any and all who didn't capitulate to letting that happen makes little difference.
The only reason Arvo wasn't trying to actively murder us during the shootout is that his gun was buried beneath the rubble of the observa… [view original content]
I completely understand his actions, he was a prisoner of war, anything you can do to get out your situation you do it. He saw kenny as a unstable element and picked at the seam until it came unglued.
I can sympathize with Team Bike as well, they fell for his manipulation.
I hope we get to see Arvo as well, i don't think he should be killed off so easily, i want them to explore his evil side some more. I can just see him with a Nighthawk Magnum in his hand, killing people who get in his way.
Nah, in TWDG most people know you have to do certain things to survive
Cry his way into the arms of Mike/Bonnie
It isn't my business why he hid them, it doesn't make him wrong to do that
The only reason why he would hide them, is so he could steal them later. If you don't take the medicine he steals them for himself then blames Clementine's group anyways.
Nah, in TWDG most people know you have to do certain things to survive. If he deemed his sister unsafe around Buricko or Vitali, or she need… moreed the medicine and one of them used it for other reasons etc. he could have good reason. We don't know because it isn't said, but yeah, you have to do things you dislike in TWDG. I didn't take his meds but it isn't my business why he hid them, it doesn't make him wrong to do that
Well, I really don't man. The group going without food that long and walking so much.. They're not burning any energy, so they're burning muscle.. so they should be as skinny as those top marathon runners...
OK, let's. Let's assume that Arvo's grasps of the phrases "Very big. Very warm." and "lots of food." were limited and incorrectly used. Let … moreus further assume that one duffel was stuffed to bursting with Gatorade, and the other equally full of Powerbars and space paste. We've given Arvo a nearly ludicrous quantity of the benefit of the doubt. That should assail some of the case against him.
It still barely warrants the trip, it doesn't pull Luke from the icy depths, and it doesn't mean he didn't put Clem in lethal danger twice after she stopped (in at least one scenario) Jane from taking his stuff. One of those times, by leveling an assault rifle directly at her chest and pumping a round into it from no more than 20 yards. Arvo's been around the ZA long enough to not have a reasonable right to regard Clementine murderously for blowing his sister away AFTER she'd turned.
This one's on Mike and the oft-despised Bonnie as well, but it also d… [view original content]
Right on. I'm glad to learn about the translations. I hadn't known about that. Thanks.
Alot of my theory was just that, theory. I felt I was fairly clear about that. Your translations change my opinions on some of that. Nevertheless, here are some of the reasons I made the inferrences I did. And keep in mind I only just played S2 yesterday for the first time, Front to back in one sitting. I'm sure others have researched some things I'm still only wondering at.
Buricko's tattoos smack of being either prison or gang tats, or both.
Occam's Razor would indicate that 5 non-english speaking and/or ESL russians didn't all survive as strangers and then happen to stumble upon one another, but rather that they knew one another from before.
Each and every one of them was carrying a very illegal AK-47 except Arvo, for whom such a weapon would be a liability.
When we first meet Arvo he SAYS that the rest of his family/group (not sure he actually says family, but I'm inclined to say he does) is in the nearby woods. He then gestures to the nearby woods in a way that would seem to indicate less than 1 1/2 days march, which is between 20- 60 miles, depending on how determined you are. Although considering Luke's leg and the snow, I'd be surprised at more than 30.
In addition to their uniformly being, at the very least, natively-accented speakers of the same language, if not actual native russians, they appear (more precisely, nothing i saw counter-indicated them) to be a nuclear family, as far as age or sex. Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, and a fifth gentleman who could easily be another Brother, an Uncle, or perhaps just a family friend. Its an assumption, I know, but in this world, you must admit, a survivor group of 3-6 people with that kind of homogenaety(sic?) is more often than not a preexisting family unit, and if not a family, mutual members of some sort of preexisting organization.
The level of precision and teamwork with which they executed that ambush suggests to me that it wasn't their first.
Toothpick Manor was just plain a dum-dum place to be on a permanent basis, especially in Northern Indiana(?) in November.
Arvo didn't have time (open to debate) to get there and back so quickly in a leg brace.
A cripple with no means of defense is unlikely to make it all.
And I'll close on a similar vein as last time. Whether or not Arvo was a habitual bandit, he was a bandit. He engaged in a calculated act of banditry that went south for him. The group had every right to summarily execute him, and should have. I would've had Clemmie do it without hesitation had it been an option. Just as Rick would not have been in the wrong to do it to the Vato he had caught. Its been awhile, but if I remember right, being the link back to the guns is what spared that guy, not kindheartedness.
That said, some of my inferences were likely incorrect, in light of new evidence. I do genuinely appreciate that evidence and I will be doing some research to help me reascertain the finer points of my theory. I'd rather be right than loud. I'd rather debate than argue. Sorry if I let my hatred for Arvo sink into my tone, and thanks for the reasoned response.

On the one hand, even after debatnig so heavily with Kryik, she has a point here. Buricko, at least, seems like he might be the type to say, "Hey! Vicodins, Percocets and Tramadols! On the other, only a fuckstick doesn't come off his lie once its been decided to go murder a whole bunch of people his lie falsely implicates. So, in the end, Arvo is still a big ol' fuckstick.

Ah. But, sir, I conceded to you, for purposes of the hypothetical, both the unrealistic video game food consumption and language barrier arguments a couple posts ago. What about all the remaing horrible things?
Well, I really don't man. The group going without food that long and walking so much.. They're not burning any energy, so they're burning muscle.. so they should be as skinny as those top marathon runners...
Kryik, I stand by my above comment regarding looters being tantamount to murderers, but I suddenly realize I misread yours. I read that he may have had good reasons for stealing from OUR group, and my response is admonishment of such.
He COULD NOT have had good reasons. In any kind of total infrastructure breakdown, looters (read:thieves) are murderers. That's why (my) Cle… morem didn't take his bag, though Luke and Becs desperately needed the supplies.
I'm not gonna sit on a high horse and say I might not be driven to it in a situation like that, but if it went south, I also wouldn't wonder why I'm getting strung up over 6 cans of ravioli and a book of hotel matches. No quarter for looters.
No matter how you slice it.... Arvo put himself in this situation. He tells his people you stole from him even if you don't.... And don't tell me it was the gun. He specifically told them it was all the supplies no matter what. The gun is an afterthought at best! He was clearly stealing from his own group and saw us as the best scapegoats ever! And Boohoo about his fucking sister! Again who put her in that situation? Nothing that happened to him is anyone's fault but his own.
True, I kind of like the idea that they knew each other tbh, I had a littletheory that maybe Arvo and Natasha really don't feel safe with Buricko and arguably Vitali, hence Arvo moving the meds and the two of them deciding to escape, sort of like Stephanie or Shel and Becca running from what became Roman's dictatorship, but your family or business theory is pretty interesting and likely. I wouldn't execute Arvo but I see your reasoning. After the shootout I would've either brought him with as the group did, or leave him, I mean there's no way he'd be a threat of catching up to them, unless he had more friends around.
I was kind of disappointed there weren't more of his people seen, or that we couldn't get an explanation or backstory, but eh it's nitpicking. I agree on the Vato, if that'd been S2, 3 or 4 Rick, that Vato could've been killed. He's lucky it was morally nice Rick. I do have a dislike of Arvo, I almost despised him when he shot Clem, and vowed to kill him on sight if he showed up in more eps, but after a while I see why he did it. Not that it makes it fine, but I see why he did it and I'd say I'd just tell him to run if Clem sees him in more eps, or avoid him. As a different character it'd depend on what he's like and if he felt guilty, how he treated the new character etc. Thankies for a good debate It's nice compared to how bad things have gotten here recently ;/

My 2 best friends have been trying to cajole me into getting around to joining reddit for years. AcesHigh just pulled it off in under 3 minutes from link to membership. Thank you, sir.
See that was the whole point of this thread, Listen the whole hate on Arvo, i am beyond that. I am looking at this from his point of view. Arvo used his disability, his "language barrier", and Kenny's violence to gain Mike/Bonnie's loyalty. Arvo was in a hostage situation, he had to do whatever he could, which meant manipulating people to feel sorry for him. He could of stole the truck, my Clementine was going to let him go, however he chose to take it one step father and shoot Clementine.
I don't see why people don't understand that they were manipulated into feeling Sorry for him. Arvo has a bum leg, people learn quickly in my experience when they have one disability they learn to rely on other skills to help with their disability.
Not to mention that there was no indication that anyone had walked on it before, like cracks from previous journeys. Sure Arvo, the other Ru… moressians didn't cause the ice to crack, but you fell right through... I knew walking across the water was a death trap but i thought they were going to kill Mike or Bonnie. I saw what he was doing from the beginning, especially when i saw Mike falling for his lies.
Aaaaand, I'm back. I remember why I've been putting that off. Even though my destination was a subreddit dedicated entirely to hate, that place can be too goshdarned hateful. I do just hate Arvo, in the sense (though the characters in this game are reaIer to me by a wide margin than the characters of almost any other) that I hate the role Arvo's designated sequence of pixels played in the script.
I can be playfully vulgar in my hatred of Arvo, secure in the knowledge that I'm describing fictional misfortunes to a fictional being in a fictional setting. I can say I'd like to see Arvo raked over hot coals, and if that event somehow makes it into S3, I'm sure I'll feel a certain grim satisfaction at it.
If Arvo was a real kid, I'd be alot more tolerant, and freely giving with the benefit of the doubt. I'd also probably barf and weep uncontrollably watching him get raked over hot coals.
Its not everyone, a marked minority even, but enough people over there make me wonder if they recognize where that line is drawn in the sand that its a little bit unsettling.
EDIT: Not to say I won't be back, it was laugh-out-loud funny in alot of places. It was just interspersed with enough of the head-shakingly ignorant, that I can only take so much at once. That's not on the subreddit, or Reddit in general. The reason I've been putting Reddit off is that I know its largely uncensored (a good thing) and EVERYBODY uses it, admittedly, because its really neat in alot of ways. The side effect of which is it contains a full internet cross-section of thought, idea and tone.
This is my foible, but there tends to be in that comprehensive cross-section enough vitriolic idiocy to get under my skin. The only online places I tend to frequent where that kind of thing can be found are places where its inconsequential, like here (Kenny! Jane! Kenny! Jane! comic strip dustcloud with fists sticking out of it ensues) or GTAforums (I'm so proud of being the worst kind of gamer in the world! The best way to have fun is to ruin other peoples' and I'm really, really good at that! Also, I'm almost certainly in middle school!) but when it becomes consequential (I hate Arvo so much I'm honestly going to let the way an american writer made up his actions color my perceptions of each of the millions of different russian people on the planet.) that's usually my cue. I felt I should clarify.
To sum up: 1) Censorship is bad. 2) Ignorance is also bad, but that doesn't stop it from being your right. 3) Reddit is a neat site that most everyone seems to enjoy, even if its not my thing. 4) The Fuck Arvo subreddit is funny and worth checking out, especially if you hate Arvo and have thicker skin than I do. 5) I can be over-sensitive about certain things, and my faith in humanity is probably shaken too easily.

I wouldn't say I sympathise with Arvo. I certainly understand his actions - at least from the point of being held captive (with Kenny as warden).
I most certainly sympathise with Team Bike.
