The problem is the ideas introduced in S2, E1 and E2 weren't continued and they were just scrapped as Nick and Sarah were shoved aside like garbage. It's not that the deaths were bad, it's the complete disregard for player interactions and decisions with Nick and Sarah. Thus making interaction and promises about Nick with Uncle Pete pointless and befriending Sarah for Carlos pointless as well. This episode didn't feel like the same people who wrote the earlier episodes wrote it because they didn't.
Well, episode 3 threw out all the choices with Nick first, not episode 4. Also the befriending Sarah for Carlos thing shouldn't have existed in the first place, since the way Carlos treats you at the end of episode 1 is determinant, I'm just saying the problems stem from other episodes. Not this one.

Dodging? It's called having a life. I wouldn't want to bother replying to children like yourself who are irrelevant anyways. I only reply quickly to those who matter and actually have a good point.
Now let me walk you through this, if you didn't say that directly, it was probably something you've said that made me say that.
Still not getting it?
You are saying that these 2 shitty deaths should NOT determine if it were a bad episode or not. Which is wrong. You saying that means that characters do not matter at all and that they're pretty much irrelevant and that we should only focus on clem or, gameplay since characters do not matter right?
The characters are what makes the twd, twd. Without them it'd just be boring yes? Imagine if it were just clem literally alone, not meeting anybody at all. And she makes it to wellington. Would TWD be as fun and interesting then? You'd probably say yes, knowing who you are.
Now you might go on and say that clem is the only one who matters, which you're wrong again since majority of us really don't like clem at all in season 2, or atleast she isn't are favs. I liked Sarah and Nick way more than clementine since they had more character and they were original. They were the reasons I played twd tbh. If it were just some other loner survival game where you kill zombies TWD should be even shittier and not worthy of me talking about.
Also you seriously need to quit assuming that Nick and sarah's death were the only factor that made amid the ruins shitty, although it is, it's not the only one. Let me give you examples onto why the episode was shit and whoever likes it I honestly ignore and is irrelevant to me.
1.Choices do not matter; meaningless choices.
The statistic choices were fucking USELESS, how the FUCK do those honestly change my story? Literally ALL are fucking useless, you cannot say otherwise.
And sarah, I tried saving her 3.FUCKING.TIMES. and she dies regardless. You might bring up the "Oh wow noo she was going to die" Snip, are you god? Do you know the future? Just because you have no hope on other people doesn't mean they should die based off of your opinion. They should have made her determinant but noooo telltale HAD to be a lapdog to those pc gamer sociopath males who gave no shits about anybody and ended up killing her regardless. They even gave us the fucking WORSE view of her being eaten, us who TRIED to save her 3 times.
This also goes back to telltale promising us that we will be a little kid again with sarah or some shit before 202 was released and teaching her how to use a gun fucking useless.
Also just going to quickly state Arvo,Rebecca, Going out days or the next day later, and holding a baby? What the fuck?
2.Boring gameplay
Episode 4 was fucking boring. Period. What part about it was fun? Literally everything was shit and I was getting sleepy through out playing it. What is this? The wolf among us? please. more lost potential. Even after episode 3, how is that possible?
3.Broken promises and Nick's death.
Obviously majority of us went with pete and promised him we'll watch over Nick, and alot of us saved nick back in 202. So what the fuck? Them killing Nick off like that is fucking disgusting, horrible, and pathetic. Just bad writing over all. Nothing about it was necessary and they should've made him determinant x2 if they felt people hated him. At least make are promise matter or something like that. Fucking cheap.
4.jane
So why the fuck couldn't we kill jane or be more mean to her? We were fucking forced to be nice to that stupid broad. What was the point of [help jane] [save sarah!]? Also what was the point of her blowing domes? how the fuck is this relevant? this was OUT OF CHARACTER of Luke. And speaking of Luke. "Fuck, fuck" Seriously? Telltale did a disgusting job in hiring writers. I could've done a way better job, seriously. i would've closed my eyes and write the plot with my foot for episode 4 and it still would've topped whatever we got.
Your points are invalid regardless, and you need to quit assuming. Swallow your pride and know who you're talking to at first before trying to speak. And seriously, if you didn't get the memo yet. I seriously dislike you and I'm honestly saddened that I replied to you, somebody who doesn't matter to me at all.

1st, No you're getting it completely wrong, saying the deaths shouldn't have an affect on quality is not the same thing as saying these characters mean nothing, how does that logic even make sense? 2nd, If the gameplay was boring than honestly you shouldn't play this game, cause it played like all previous episodes that makes no fucking sense how this was boring yet the other's weren't. 3rd A House Divided made him determinant so the problem starts there, no where else, would you rather him be a statue that does nothing for the entire goddamn episode like episode 3? 4th your Jane argument is stupid as fuck sorry to say, that's like hating episode 3 because you can't disagree with Kenny's plan or hate on him more. Also I couldn't give less of a fuck what you care about me, I asked a question and you didn't answer, and I'm not the one assuming shit.
you should go work at telltale with that kind of attitude, they'll accept you. But it's you anyways, I didn't expect anything.

LOL it's boring. Gr8 argument m8, I like the b8 I r8 8/8 I can rel8 str8 about Sarah and Nicks f8 but we need to collabor8. If it's boring then I don't know why people continue to play games they think are boring, or shitty. What are some fun moments? Bonding with Jane, Mike, Bonnie, Kenny, Rebecca. QTE'S were great, and the dialogue was fantastic.
I agree we promised to Pete, but it's a game. Shit happens, and you have to deal with it. They way you cuss, and swear at how stupid Nick's death was proves you are more of a child then Green could be.
If you don't like Jane fine by me. You played episode 5, and you can watch her die all you want. If you don't like the writers, then complain, do something, act on it, instead of sitting back, telling us your problems. Do you think we give a shit if it's still as shitty as it is?

If you want to get technical this thread shouldn't even exist there was a defense post on this subject, but for some reason you couldn't just bump that conversation.
OK, I can defend Nick and Sarah's deaths with more than "You prove that you didn't give up on him" which I agree is not really a very good defense. I hesitated to explain more earlier, because I kinda already did this back when everybody was complaining and I don't want to repeat myself too much, but here we go.
The characters of Nick and Sarah (like all non-protagonists in TWD) have symbolic value. Understanding what the value might be helps make sense of their deaths. I should say I was sorry to see both of them go. Also, I have no idea what the TT writers were thinking about this! This is how I understand Nick and Sarah's deaths. Anybody who feels like it can stop reading now, and/or keep thinking they're stupid deaths, because this is going to be long and I don't blame you.
Nick
I'll explain Nick first. What's the VERY first thing he does when he meets Clem? He almost shoots her, and he pisses everybody off by doing that, even Rebecca and everybody else who wants Clem to go step on a lego. That's the key to his character. He is eaten by guilt because he couldn't save his mom. He wants to fix it up somehow, and that has made him prone to hasty decisions that cause trouble. We do learn that he's a bit of a sensitive soul, because Pete tells us the story about the buck. But we also learn that he's pretty down on himself (especially if you go with him and leave Pete at the river, but also when the group gets to Matthew's hut and Nick imitates Carlos and makes us spray our mouthfuls of coffee onto our monitors).
So: eaten by guilt because he couldn't save his family. Prone to making hasty decisions that lead to trouble. Pissing people off...hmmm...does that sound like anybody else you might know? Nick is a reminder of Kenny, both foreshadowing the fact that Kenny is about to appear, and also reminding Clem of what Kenny was like because she's going to have to deal with him shortly. He might even look like a younger Kenny with his hat and his black almost-mullet hairdo, and the very beginning of a Kenny 'stache.
Before anyone freaks out, that's only part of what I thought Nick meant in the story. The other part is he's a reminder of what happens if you dwell too much on past mistakes and judge yourself harshly. If you save him in E2, he dies a hero's death later, offscreen: I can see him at the trailer park saying "I'm going for help, and THIS time I'm not going to mess it up!" But of course he does, because that's who he is, and then you find him stuck, minus whatever dignity he may have had left, in the fence. If you don't save him, Walter doesn't help him, and he gets eaten by walkers: in that version, being an idiot got him killed, so it's more of a reminder about how you have to think everything through in this world. I only wish Clem could have taken Pete's watch back from Nick's body--that would have tied the arc up better, IMHO.
Sarah
Now for Sarah. The first thing she does is stick her head out and excitedly ask who Clem is. Then her dad tells her to get lost, with a tone that implies he's protecting her. This is Sarah's life. (Sarah voice) "Hey, cool, a new thing!" (Carlos voice) "Sarah, go back in your room!" It kinda sucks, and we can see that by Clem's first few painful lines of dialogue with her. Sarah is so desperate to have a friend her own age.
At the lodge, nobody can tell her to go to her room, and she has a blast with the Christmas stuff. But from the minute Carver shows up, things start going downhill for her. Carver alters the only thing Sarah could count on: her relationship with her dad. She tries to hang on by first getting between Carlos and Carver (flinging herself at Carlos), and later when Carver's going to town on Carlos's fingers she hysterically begs him to stop--because Carver is, probably on purpose, showing her that her dad isn't so invulnerable after all, and maybe can't protect her. But things are basically over when Carlos hits her. Nothing will ever be the same and she knows it; that's why she can't pick berries or anything the next day.
When Carlos dies, that's basically it. She tries to run, but when Clem and Jane catch up to her at the trailer park, you can hear Luke pleading with her, and her yelling "No!" and "I can't!" I assumed that Sarah was somewhere on the autistic spectrum (I have two nieces with similar issues, so I guess I jumped to that conclusion), but whatever's going on with her mentally, it would have been very unrealistic for her to make a big speech about her feelings. Instead, "No" and "I can't" stretch out to mean "No I can't explain, no I can't go anywhere, no you can't save me, no I can't get my head around this, no I can't live without my dad," and probably fifteen other things.
For me that was very powerful, because it showed that there's no more room in this world for innocent folk. My Clem left her at the trailer park, telling her in the end to close her eyes. On a different playthrough I saved her, and she seemed a bit irrelevant, although I found it very touching that when she saw the walkers coming, the only word she could get out was "Clementine!"
[As for the writers and the stuff they said about Sarah--if they were trying to be funny, it wasn't funny. Maybe they felt bad for killing her and wanted to joke about it to make themselves feel better? Either way that was just unnecessary. If I had a chance to talk to them about it, I'd challenge them to spend a day hanging out with me and one of my nieces and then say that stuff again without dying of shame.]
I had similar views, by the way, about Carley, Doug, Chuck, Molly, and a few others who didn't stay in the story long. Each of them means something. I didn't see any of it as wasted development.
No, but a death that squanders character development, making everything beforehand largely a waste of time is an example of ZOMG Bad Writing… morez. With Nick's fate as it is and his character being utterly wasted in episodes 3 and 4, what was the point of saving him in 2? I'll tell you: There is none. People can only defend it with "You prove that you didn't give up on him", which is just reaching since it doesn't have an impact on a single thing in-story. Sarah's death, on top of being wrought with unfortunate implications about the writers and their views on mental illness, is turned into a vehicle for Jane to get development. Oh, how wonderful. The Crawford wannabe gets development, and the innocent girl who is clearly fighting hard to keep going despite her crippling condition and mental state dies horribly with little to no mourning except from Rebecca if you choose to let her die at the trailer home. There's nothing that we learn or feel fro… [view original content]

2.Are you honestly comparing episode 4 to 1,2, and 3? House divided was the best episode, it had the best character development and WE had the option to control it. While in 4, we did shit and we were FORCED to talk to jane and listen to her shit.
3.So just because it's determinant makes it okay for him to be treated like shit? You might want to clarify more since I still don't understand what you're trying to say. That's just lost potential. when somebody goes "determinant'" it's sad that we know they're going to get killed off. I'm saying don't expect godly treatment of Nick in episode 4 because he's determinant (thanks to episode 2) and because he didn't do anything in episode 3 but side with Luke if he even talked at all.

Jesus Gary! What the fuck!? (No offense)
I'm comparing them to show it's lazy though. That's a normal thing
You have got to be fucking kidding me right?
No, but Jesus is.
Fair enough. I get where you're coming from. That's cool. Hey, nice post by the way! I can tell a lot of thought went into it.
Thanks!
On that note, where's my answer? I asked you where I said the things you claimed I had said :]
Ah, dodging my question I see, it's good I knew you were wrong from the start
But hey, people need to be put in their places.
I approve of this message he is quite annoying.
Jesus, all these nasty posts lately.
I would say something, but I'm not.
Why? Because I'm giving my opinion on something you don't like? You're probably one of the people who just like to shun out others opinions till yours is the only left, well I'm not going to let the forum be filled with people like you because that's when I can see it going to shit, call me annoying all you want I couldn't give less of a fuck.
JUSTIFY YOUR OPNION MOAR
I will, it's my thread last time I checked.

Straight out calling peoples points invalid, is extremely childlike, and makes you look like a fool, or a troll. I hope that people like you can become better then this, because in reading this I am disappointed. The rudeness, and impoliteness, is too damn high, and I'll probably receive a similar reply.
I agree with everything except for the child part, I do agree I may have acted wrongly saying he was dodging my post, therefore I apologize Ellias if you see this, even if you don't care I'm still sayin it.
I don't get it.
1.Yes it does. LOL stop trying to justify that senseless statement. What's done is done, and it speaks for itself. If you didn't mean it, then oh well. Sucks for you since you're bothered by it.
It's even more lost potential since Nick and Sarah could've had even more development in episode 3 holy shit.
"I'm not the one assuming shit"
hunty, that's ASSUMING.
Yeesh, that is so long. I'm sorry. Somebody post a gif of Kenny making yada yada hands behind Walter's back?
No I'm clearly giving you what I mean yet you block it out like it's poison, you're wrong.
Fine A House Divided was the best for you? Ok that's your opinion and I'm completely fine with that, but don't say episode 4 was all talking to Jane cause it clearly wasn't you could talk to characters more than you could in episode 2 easily.
I'm saying don't expect godly treatment of Nick in episode 4 because he's determinant (thanks to episode 2) and because he didn't do anything in episode 3 but side with Luke if he even talked at all.
Really? That isn't how this thread has gone at all, what respect have you or Green showed anyone that disagrees with you? None.
You do not speak for everyone.
Yeah it has got that way hasn't it. You and your buddy aren't helping matters.
Well I made my own. Got a problem with it? Go talk to the mods then I'm sure they can help you out, maybe they can even merge my thread with that one if that's what you want.
Well your still a kid right?
Care to show me some examples of me disrespecting people I disagreed with? Because last time I checked you're the one that called me annoying.
OH so now you realized ITS A OPINION!
What changed? Yesterday it was Fact, today Opinion!
I'm sorry if I offended, but I'm tired of putting that in every single post because I'm trying to fight for what I believe is right, so I'm sorry okay? I didn't mean to hurt anybody, I was just stating my opinion, in the least offensive, and insulting way possible.
That's why I put I not we bud.
I love the game how it is, and Ellias started this by calling out how bad the episode was. I was just defending my opinion and Green's. We're helping our cause not yours, we like the episode, and you don't so why should we do something about it?
Oh, it's you again. Something that always crosses my mind is that people like who you "dislike" me always reply to me or stalk me basically. It's sad, and pretty senseless.

Here maybe this will explain things.
