Like it or not people, they don't want to lose any audience because they offend someone who doesn't approve of homosexuality, which is why it is the best to keep it suggestive and not outright in-your-face-hi-im-gay deal.
Because some of us are here for a zombie survival game. We aren't here for political beliefs shoved down our throats just like you're doing right now. Listen to yourself. You're out here telling us what to think, what game we should play. Get off your high horse. If you want a game that has your beliefs, go find one or make one yourself. The reason they aren't out there is because most people don't want them.
Why would having LGBT characters automatically mean they were shoving their sexualities 'down you throat'?
Did you think Rebecca and Alvi… moren shoved their heterosexuality down your throat? Why not?
Thus, if you had two men acting in EXACTLY the same way as they do, calling each other sweetie etc., why would you view THAT as shoving homosexuality down your throat?
You sound like one of those dudebro BHVs I mention above who think if someone acts differently to you they should do it in private, because you're more important.
I'd cringe if they threw in a gay person simply for the sake of having a gay person, but if the character was done well then sure. I still don't really think it's necessary though.
Well, Telltale are good at not showing stereotypes so that wouldn't be a problem at all.
And no one is asking for every line to be about their sexuality? That seems to be the biggest misconception opponents hold: that if a character is LGBT, they are automatically that and nothing else.
I don't really understand your point.
You think 'hinting is fine' but anything else isn't?
Here's a question for you: is Alvin and Rebecca being openly in a relationship shoving their heterosexuality down your throat?
If it was a gay couple who were open about it and called each other pet names, as Alvin and Rebecca do, would that be shoving homosexuality down our throats?
There are a HELL of a lot of double standards floating around here.
I don't see why it fucking matters. Usually, when LGBT characters are thrown into films/games, they're incredibly fucking stereotypical, and… more even if they're not, SOMEONE will be upset with representation. Hinting is fine, like with Walter. Sure, have a gay couple, but don't have every single line be "Oh 'cha, we're gay Clem, did you figure that out yet? Hurr". Besides, I don't see how it fuckin' matters in the apocalypse, if they start having a breakdown over fear of separation in the ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE WHERE EVERYONE IS FUCKED, then their priorities are fucked.
Homosexuality isn't a political ideology, it's a biological fact.
Having a gay person in a game is no more political than having a black person in a game. You're welcome to attempt to show me it's completely different. But I can assure you, you won't be able to.
Do you really, honest to god, think that if an issue is argued about it should be ignored by the media 100%?
So, say if during the campaign for racial equality, there was a comic with a black protagonist. Would you openly oppose that, due to not wanting 'politics' in your comic book.
Whether you like it or not, gay people are a FACT of life. They 100% exist. And whether you like it or not, black people are a fact of life. They 100% exist.
Including gay characters isn't a political message.
No. What you want is a gay story line. This can't happen without making Clementine less part of the story, and without pushing forward pol… moreitical ideologies. The community is split enough over Jane, and Kenny. Imagine opening that can of worms. I play the game for fun, not for politics. If I want that I turn on the news.
I was using 'normal' to mean 'type you're most likely to come across', not as an antonym of 'weird'.
As a gay man, I can safely say that most gay people I've met at least (and I've met a lot) are not stereotypes. It's fine if you ARE one, but that doesn't make the stereotype true.
You just insulted every stereotypical gay person. A "normal" gay person? Wow way to insult those gay men out there that are a little more sensitive, and different from what you perceive to be normal.
I'm just saying that every time I've seen a LGBT character they act the same, and it's constantly shoved in our faces. Sure, have them kiss, have conversations, even fuck, it doesn't affect me. I just don't want them constantly shoving it in our face, because it makes it seem like the relationship is all their character is, like with Sarita.
Well, Telltale are good at not showing stereotypes so that wouldn't be a problem at all.

There shouldn't be black people because 'There are more important things to worry about in the apocalypse'.
These arguments just...don't make sense. And they're for the large part bigoted to varying extents.
People aren't asking for a game based around coming out of the closet and being made homeless due to it, or a game about fucking as many dudes as possible with one's abnormally large phallus, people are saying that they would like to see a gay character.
Having gay characters should not be discouraged specifically for the EXACT same reasons having black characters shouldn't be discouraged.
I would like to praise the community a little though, as when I made a thread asking for a gay character a year ago I was practically lynched.

People argued that women shouldn't have the vote. That doesn't mean that women shouldn't have the vote, does it?

Well no not really. It'd just make it even more dramatic and more serious. a good way it could work out in season 3 is like you meet a tranny or a gay/lesbian at first and build a great relationship. He/she doesn't tell you about their sexuality until you guys meet a big group and later they ask him/her about it. they're honest and the group disagrees and bullies/hate him or her. You can have a choice to leave the group with him/her or leave with the group.
Or if you want it even more dramatic, kill a homophobe or let a homophobe kill him/her in like a jane kenny situation.
Just saying, it'd make it really good and interesting.
and no, this wouldn't have to be the main point of the story or whatever. I mean it could all happen in a episode or in 2 episodes while trying to make it somewhere or whatever. It could be a part of the story.

Why does it matter what their sexual orientation is? honestly having an LGBT character in the walking dead would be no different than a non LGBT character. Plus if you really care that much, they had Walter and Matthew.

I want at least one bisexual girl at some point, as a bisexual myself. :P
For all of you saying that it doesn't matter and that their relationship/sexuality would be shoved down our (or rather your) throats, please stop.
We barely get any representation in the media as it is, don't ruin it for us. Why does everyone have to be straight? When I write my OC characters for my fanfics, I give them diverse sexualities and I avoid making it the center of everything. I even have a Trans man character. Example of my characters:
Lesbian: 3
Gay: 1
Arosexual: 1
Bisexual: 3
Asexual: 2
Trans: 1
Non binary: 1
Bi curious: 2
Granted, I don't have a lot of OCs, so it's a bit different than if I had a ton of them. I'm 13. If I can write characters like this without making them stereotypical, Telltale can pull them off without making them stereotypical. And yes, you would have to at least have someone acknowledge the sexualities so it's not completely non existent.
No one has any problem with Alvin and Rebecca or Christa and Omid, Kenny and Katjaa/Sarita, so why would you have a problem with any LGBTA characters?
I mean, seriously. Why is this such a big deal? Why are we fighting over this?!
As a bi dude I'd probably just be embarrassed by the idea of a character who's confirmed to be bisexual and meant to represent the LGBT community. As a player we shouldn't be able to tell a character's sexuality, because in the apocalypse it would be totally irrelevant and difficult to discover someone's gender preferences.
Who's to say Doug wasn't gay, for example? We don't know. He could be, who knows? I just despise the idea of Telltale forcing a relationship into the series like that unnecessarily.

Damnit, the site deleted my original reply. Anyway, I see what you mean. I was kidding around about the bisexual girl part... Kinda. It'd be kinda cool to see a character like that, but I do understand where you're coming from. It's just that if you've got a bunch of couples/characters that are straight (... Or at least presumed straight), why not have one couple/character (or more) who is NOT forced? Even if the sexuality isn't a big deal, treat them the way the other couples/characters are treated.
And I think there was a theory about Doug being gay. I'd believe it, but at the same time, you think about how he liked Carley and you get confused. XD But I'd absolutely love if there was a gay or lesbian or whatever couple that was NOT forced, and were interesting and awesome characters. It'd be cool in my opinion. Not that Walter and Matthew weren't interesting and forced, but it sucked because of how fast they were fridged and the fact that we never see them together.

I understand where your coming from. In the TV show, I have absolutely zero issue having characters being gay or bi but in the video game it doesn't matter. it doesn't matter because the episodes are short, when we get to know the character we want the basics about them so we get to care. The reason Matthew and Walter was done perfectly is because we know they were gay, it was a footnote. Since characters die very quickly in the game, there isn't time to have talks about sexuality and what not because it doesn't fit, it has no time and will break the flow. When Walter was talking to Clem when he was making dinner, he could have spoke about how he is gay and has a relationship with Matthew, but it wasn't necessary. The TV show has time to develop sexuality as apart of the overall plot, the game does not. And as previously stated, characters made specifically for a romance end up like Sarita.

Yeah, I mean, I'd have absolutely no issue with a gay/lesbian couple as long as they were done tastefully. I just dread the idea of two LGBT characters that are depicted in a manner contrary to everyone else. Wouldn't want their relationship constantly in the spotlight for no meaningful reason.

why do we need stuff like this in games? No matter which game you look at, there is always THAT guy who asks for stuff like that. It's fucking annoying They won't be satisfied until a character in rainbowcolors runs around in the gayest way possible. You got your subtle homosexuals in season 2. They were fine. No need for more. Thank you. Bye Bye.

Because it's the issue of representation. It is hard for a LGTB person to ever find themselves in media as a character who is simply part of the LGTB community rather than be the token character who manages to somehow have every single stereotype applied to them. Which Telltale has handled well I reckon. It's just down to representation. To the minorities, they are the ones who find it important.
I agree that the character is the most important thing, but believe me if S3 had for example had mostly non white people, I think there would be a lot of complaints. Not just about the realism thing. I remember someone in here saying that playing two black protagonists and one girl was too much for them and they wanted to go back to a 'normal' character. Aka a white man I'm supposing. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just that pretty much every other game features that kind of character. I'm hoping these types of people are rare though.
Hell, I agree with you on Sarah though. I support social equality but there are a few blogs on Tumblr that go rabid or are trolling it's really hard to tell sometimes. Most people don't support them though, mind-the ones who go way too far. Nothing ever makes them happy.
LGBT
Who cares what people are? I dont know why every game, film, show has to have at least on gay, black or whatever character to appe… morear PC. They had a two gay guys this season and it was handled normally as it should be. Use characters that have interesting personalities etc their race or sexuality dosnt matter one bit.
Also if Sarah is an example tumblr etc will just go crazy when this minority character is killed or mistreated regardless of other characters also being mistreated.,

People don't care about having gay characters. They just hate having political ideals shoved down their throats.
Don't call me boy... And no. It's human nature to survive. And point 2: The whole point of The walking dead was that it improved human relationship.
It's not for the reason of losing an audience. If that was so no film or game would get anywhere. You can't account for what people are offended for.
To be honest I don't think it would make much of a difference. I mean in a zombie apocalypse a person's sexuality would be the least of my worries.
why do we need stuff like this in games? No matter which game you look at, there is always THAT guy who asks for stuff like that. It's fucking annoying They won't be satisfied until a character in rainbowcolors runs around in the gayest way possible. You got your subtle homosexuals in season 2. They were fine. No need for more. Thank you. Bye Bye.
And who are you to say that.
I am the guilty king. And I can say whatever the fuck I want.
no sorry it's like you know people and say racism/sexism/ and homophobia would die off just because it's a z.a.
Completely agree.
So you mean equality basically? I'm a little confused by this.
