Why I am content with Luke's death
Many people are saying that Luke's death was unreasonable and stupid because of how he was killed. Personally, I was okay with his death because I thought that Luke's character was completely developed and we got to know him enough for him to die whenever. In fact, as soon as I saw the ice crack around Luke, I said 'Well, you're dead.' I said this because 1: His leg was messed up. 2: We had just had a happy moment (the campfire scene). 3: Luke was the one being a pessimistic, emotional sob (as in the entire campfire scene mainly focused on him (which upset me because I wanted Mike and Bonnie to have some development)). What is your opinion on his death? Also, if you're one of those people (and you know who you are) that are still upset about Luke's death to this day, don't worry about it. It's been three months, and I still haven't gotten over Sarah's death (which was stupid might I add), but that's for another thread to come later.

Lukes not dead though...He got lucky...
REAL lucky...
He was faking drowning...
... (awkward silence is a valid option on the TTG community)
He grew wings and flew off into the night to be where an angel was needed...People thought he was a merman...Thats just crazy!
[Quietly stays bitter about it]
I was OK with it, because it wasn't as bad as Nick's. Poor Nick.

I can understand, but for me, there were just too many big no no's with what they did. The set up for walking across a lake seemed really weak and I also didn't like that it took until the last episode, a scene before dying, to develop Luke some back story, when they had an entire season to do something with him. In all, he just seemed like a character they could've done more with and that's why his death bugs me, he still had more to give T_T
And on the subject of Sarah, I didn't like her second death I sort of wish she could've made it through to the finale as well along with Nick even.
I was fine that he died like a hero but I'm not okay with his death since I feel like Telltale could have done so much more with him and they built up this conflict between Kenny and Luke yet they don't do anything with it. His death just felt too out of the blue and for shock value and it sucks when your favourite character dies purely for shock, it feels like his whole presence in the game was just a build up to surprising the fans when he dies
I liked Luke's death. I would've preferred if they kept him in, and it might've been a liiiittle obvious (Like, it was the day after his birthday. C'mon.), but it was still pretty well done; it's probably one of the few deaths in the season that isn't corny.
Luke is working at the big coffee shop in the sky now and I was fine with everyone's death in this season.
You're calling Luke pessimistic..
Are you fucking kidding me? He is perhaps the most optimistic character from the whole series aside from Omid.
When we had to kill Nick I was really hoping we'd get the option to put his hat back on once it fell off. He doesn't look the same without it.
He wasn't being entirely pessimistic, but he ruined the moment with that pessimistic line, 'You spend so much time trying to stay alive that you don't get a chance to enjoy living.'
If you actually think about it, Luke is pretty pessimistic, when he bursts out at Kenny because he believes everything is shit and there's nothing left, also he doesn't want to leave Carver's camp because he fears they won't make it out so they should bide their time, he never really was optimistic.
I wanted the option to pick up his hat and put it on top of Clem-Clem's hat.
Luke was never optimistic. Sarah was optimistic when she wasn't having an anxiety attack. Luke was logical.
.
I moved on...
I'm very good at Compartmentalization. I had a lot of experience growing up.
Are you sure about that? We hardly even see him crack under pressure, which he was close to in my opinion. Not to mention more about his past, Nick and their friendship, his family, etc. That, is developing a character. It doesn't always have to be personality wise. (Besides me adding the cracking under pressure thing, that I really wanted to see)
Even though he was one of my favorite characters in the game, and it was difficult for me to cope with it, I've come to deal with it. I mean it's the apocalyspse so I don't think it was an unreasonable way to die. Not everyone has to die because of the walkers. As I said, it's really, REALLY sad he had to go, especially when everyone thought it would be about Kenny and Luke. But his death itself wasn't bad, what I think was bad was that he was killed because of shock-value.
How is that line in any way pessimistic? he just stated a fact.
[Hold back urge to be bitter again]
Let it go, Wolf. Let it go. Unleash the bitterness within your heaaaart.
I have so many times...it doesn´t get better. ;_;
;_; me neither [sobs]
Have you tried writing? Didn't you say you were doing something like that?
I was going to but my attention span doesn´t let me progress much, to be honest. I start losing ideas mid way and end up not knowring what to do, if that makes sense.
All too well, I get like that sometimes when I've haven't got motivation, it's hell but if you ever need any help, give me a buzz. What were you going to write anyway? o.o
Thank you, I appreciate it!
I was actually thinking of "fixing" that terrible lake scene so that they don´t even try to cross it. Obviously that would necessarily have to change the Arvo/Bonnie/Mike scene because Luke´s presence would change a lot of things. Likewise, Kenny vs Jane would probably never even have happened either. From then on I was just gonna wait till Season 3 so there was still a steady plot base to follow. But yeah, figuring out everyone´s role had Luke been there is a bit difficult. I just know he´d have prevented some things from happening.
That sounds like a cool idea. Hmmm, maybe instead if not just the lake, you could do the whole episode. o.o like say for example some of the group did get hurt in that shootout and were captured, or do something with the town even [perhaps there are supplies or people there who would help them]. That and watch a whole lot of 'how to save someone from the ice if they fall in' those are very handy on learning about icy situations XD did you know that the water can be so cold that when you fall into it, your body's reflex to it will be to gasp and that's why people sometimes drown quicker because they gasp in water.
But I find sometimes though, it's just easier to do things differently when writing a fic otherwise you risk repeating events or dialogue word for word o.o it's handy for past info stuff or making references though.
I'm fine with Luke's death too. Was it done for shock value? Maybe, but he at least got more development than poor Nick and Sarah. Of course, there's also the fact that I was always indifferent towards him.
Question to the Luke fans, how can you get attached to Luke? All he did was being unconsistant and made funny lines and puns. I mean i liked Luke but how do you get attached to this guy?
I really don't know when or why I got attached to him, I didn't even realise how attached I was until he died. I think I became attached to him in episode 2 when you talk to him about the photo some of the actions he does are awesome, so I may have become attached to him there.
Because he has a major in art history, that's why.
Agreed.
Just reminds me of what Luke says of Kenny, more or less, "I think he's a nice guy -- at least started as a nice guy. But I think he's just had to take more than he could handle". Who's to say we wouldn't have seen Luke reach that point, himself? From what we see of him he does a lot of emotional bottling and deals with things mostly by keeping focused on immediate goals or dipping into humour a bit. Kind of like when he's pausing to rest in ep 5 and Clem's keeping pressure on his wound, he's finally beginning to give in and confide in someone he trusts -- Clementine -- and if she answers his 'how did we get here?' question with 'you practically had to be carried', he still ends up smiling or chuckling despite the emotional pain he's in. And it's his sort of coping strategy (which, from afar, makes Luke look like he can 'keep moving all the time', as Nick sees it) which ends up in little explosions when he can't keep it in anymore -- like his outburst in Amid The Ruins.
It's not an easy position to be in, trying to lead a bunch of people. In keeping them together he's also trying to keep himself together ('a group's only as strong as its leader,' he remarks), which is hard when loved ones die left and right in a short span of time. There's also just... little time to grieve, really. And he knows it really wouldn't have helped group morale if he just let himself break down and in front of everyone.
It's probably easiest for him to tell himself that there're more important things to be worrying about than his own emotional well-being... aaaand because of plot reasons, there's always more than enough aside from himself than he has to think about.
/rambleramblebabbleblagh
Yeah but I mean...I find the whole crossing the lake thing absolutely stupid of their part when they could just have avoided it so I´d rather not even go into that. But actually, you´re right, I should start with the shootout. It was pretty weird that only Mike and Luke got injured of our group and Mike was only slightly. I suppose they could use that as an excuse not to cross it?
Reading fanfics always cheers me up. Hell...pretty recently a manga I was reading ended and it had such a disappointing end all I have is fanfics left. Never wanna see that again.
When did Luke say that a group is as strong as its leader?
Amid the Ruins -- when Luke catches up with Clem near the observation deck after she and Jane met Arvo, and they talk about Jane and Kenny and all that. It's not something he'll always say, though -- it does depend on Clem's responses.
Hmmm.
Change it to a river, give an excuse to cross it, say that maybe it's getting dark and the town is right on the other side [maybe they're desperate for food, or don't have enough formula for the baby]. Perhaps push it into a crazy event that there are walkers everywhere having been drawn to the area from their shootout with Arvo's group, forcing Clem's group out onto the ice.
Use the river as an even deadlier foe, because if anybody falls in, they'll get washed away from the hole in the ice and never resurface. Have them use their heads, where tying jackets or whatever together can form a rope to help pull out anybody who has a Luke incident where they're just halfway in. Also it would be difficult to run on that ice [you'd be skidding and wobbling about all over the place] and so many walkers from the shore stumbling out onto it might cause much of it to break up, and cause panic in the group if anybody gets into any trouble.
It would be total and utter panic in trying to cross a river before the ice you're on comes apart under your feet, while having the dead on your heels. Some might make a break for the shore on the other side to save their own skins and some might stay to help buddies in trouble. Combing ice and zombies together in that dire a crisis, now that's something that would test a group when put in a situation where it might just be every man for himself and really feel that danger in possibly being seconds away from death.
...erm, does that help in any way? o.o
And same :P I wrote a new TWDG fic recently and reading fics cheers me up too. But what manga were you talking abou-O_O....wait, is it Naruto? Not a fan of it, but I know that ended recently.
That actually brings up a good point...no walkers were drawn to that massive shooting. That's...strange. I actually think that needs to be fixed. I don't even know why I never noticed that.
"Use their heads". Yes, something they didn't do because lolz plot!! Sorry if I sound bitter, I'm actually a huge fan of Season 2 and don't usually complain about the writing but this part in particular...ugh.
Walkers are pretty slow so I'm guessing they could probably just panic when they see them getting near and think that they're gonna crack it and make the situation worse. Or should they actually get there? I'd think they'd have to be pretty slow themselves when they're trying to be very careful, haha.
THAT is a very, very good point! Maybe that could be a way to get rid of...certain people. They're not willing to stay behind and prefer to save themselves so they leave as soon as they reach shore. Too good for Arvo though, the lil shit needs something else. :P
It certainly does, thank you for taking the time to help me out, I appreciate it!
Uh...yep, bingo. I have no idea of what happened there but, to me, the final two chapters are the worst, most random storytelling pieces I have ever seen. It's just...he completely erased a characters decade long development for shipping. Seriously. It was...so, so bad for her.
