Bob Appreciation thread (TV Show)

edited October 2014 in The Walking Dead

I really don't even care that Bob was the typical "good guy"; the man was awesome. He epitomized the meaning of continuing to survive in the apocalypse, and any bad situation really. He was the opposite of what we saw in the cannibals from Terminus. Where they gave into their fear, darkness, and hate purely based upon their own misfortunes, Bob continued to fight the good fight. He wasn't just surviving for the sake of surviving. He had something to fight for, and he retained his humanity. He had the ability to see the good in any dark situation, even while staring death in the face. He died with a smile on his face, in the company of his friends and his lover.

  • "Nightmares end, but they don't have to change who you are"

Loved that line almost as much as I loved his character.

Bob doesn't get enough credit for all he's done. (Whoops, I typed it wrong. I'm not a Bob hater I swear xD)

RIP Bob, you were one of the greats.

  • You idiots! I'm tainted meat! TAINTED MEAT!!

Never forget that line. Never forget.

  • I think I may have butchered the quote a little, but yeah, that line was everything he stood for.

  • I loved how he died with a smile on his face, probably the only time we'll ever see that. R.I.P. Bob.

  • Hey put a spoiler tag on this! Some people didn't get to this point yet. Oh and don't put Bob because it's spoiling too. Just put character appreciation (Tv Show) Thanks have a great day.

  • It doesn't spoil anything, just because a character gets an appreciation thread doesn't mean they died, it could mean they did something awesome.

  • um did you watch tonight's episode? Bob/Dale died, and other people will come to this thread spoiled knowing he died. It even says he died in the post, so this is spoiling XD. I won't argue with the family though :)

If someone hasn't seen the new episode yet and they are honestly clicking on this thread...

The title doesn't spoil anything really. It only reveals that I have an appreciation for Bob. I initially thought about adding a spoiler tab, but decided it really wasn't necessary.

  • If it says TV show, then you shouldn't enter the thread if you don't want spoilers. It's common sense not to enter a thread that says TV SHOW in big letters, if you haven't watched the tv show.

  • well i watch the show. I'm just saying because there's people who click on the thread anyway, so their fault for spoiling themselves.

  • didn't you get in the show because of my thread or am I mistaken?

btw i was rooting for bob's death in 501 but I didn't want him to die the way he did since it took majority of 502's time.

  • I had been wanting to get into it for awhile, just never got around to doing it for some reason. Your thread did play a role in me finally sitting down and doing it though.

Is that really all you got out of this? Did you read anything other than the title?

Bob's death has thematic value to it, Bob's character has thematic value to it. He is worth discussing. And lets not pretend like this thread is actually taking away from some sort of great discussion happening elsewhere in these parts.

Let the mods do their job ;)

  • What I found sadder still about his death is the dark irony that his whole character arc in season 4 was fueled by his fear that everybody in the group would die and he would be all alone again, but between Hershel's death and now, he's the only one who's fallen, and the rest of the group will have to carry on without him.

But in the end, he didn't die alone. He died surrounded by his group, and was optimistic as always seeing Rick holding the baby. He was able to make peace with himself before he went out, surrounded by friends, and that's about as good an end as there could have been for good ol' Bob Stookey.

  • I'm not doing "mods" work as I simply just stated a rule from the Forum Guidlines.

  • Mmm gnh, oh sorry, what were we talking about? i was just eating a BLT, a bob, lettuce, tomato, sandwhich.

  • I won't lie, I got a little choked up when he was talking to Rick and Judith. Bob was a good man too.

  • Damnit, I thought you were talking about the good Bob...

Off-topic, but DAE think the Termites/Gareth group storyline ended too quickly? I mean, I don't want it to drag on for two whole seasons like the Governor, but Terminus was built up to be such a big antagonist and they all just died three episodes after being introduced on-camera.

  • Those Jane fans could learn a thing or two from this.

  • Bob turned out to be one of my favourite characters so I'm sad he's gone now :( First half of season 4 I didn't really care for him but after that I really started to like him.

  • The correct quote is "Nightmares end, they don't have to end who you are."

Bob, the consummate optimist of the apocalypse. I really liked Bob. I'm sorry to see him go but he got to have the last laugh on the Termites and die in the company of his friends, so I guess he was as happy as he could be in the end. R. I.P. Stookey.
