First of all, the OP meant "Jane is overshadowing the rest of the cast, similar to how Kenny did". I feel embarrassed to have to point that… more out now, because the OP also already CLARIFIED that.
Second, the rest of the cast was overshadowed because they didn't have much personality. Not even your pretty boy, Luke. (When do pretty boys ever have personality beyond being pretty? Come on). Can't help that Kenny was "Friend of Lee" and "Family Man" and "Druken Brawler" and "Oh shit, I'm sorry, Ben. I actually have enough sense to admit when I'm wrong when you point it out clearly like that". If other characters had defining traits like this, it would be different. But they didn't. As for Jane... well she was a jerk. But different than from Larry. She was a mindgaming jerk.
Third, people side with Jane because most people are idiots.
I don't like either of them to be honest. I stopped liking Jane after she kept pushing Clementine to leave Sarah and I never liked Kenny and the only reason why I chose to go with her in the end was because I thought it would be suicide to go alone.
Carly added way more to the story than Doug who I thought was a really bland character (no offense to the twenty five percent of people who saved him) and I really hated Jane when she wanted to leave Sarah. I just despised her whole "having empathy is hard" bullshit. I did save her though and went with her because she seems more sane than Kenny though not by much.
Well yeah I agree, I didn't like Jane and felt Clementine should "stay out of it no matter what happened" like she insisted and wished. Besi… moredes she was willing to let Sarah die so the strong can survive right?, by letting her die she sort of got small taste of her own doctrine. Molly was cold like Jane but to me Molly had slightly more heart and sense.
If it were Molly fighting Jane I believe Molly & "Hilda" would had mopped the snow with Jane. And it might of been a tougher decision for the player as well because those two characters behave similar and it wouldn't have been the fact that Molly was around for the majority of 2 seasons or the fact that she was a man trying to kill a woman which also I believe contributed to players killing Kenny to prevent Jane's demise.

I loved both Jane and Kenny's flawed characters, but in the end chose Jane over Kenny. While the plan was reckless, it got the job done: it proved to me that Kenny's loyalty, and self-restraint only went so far. The whole season showed that Kenny's eroding psyche makes things worse when trying to compromise, or when trying to keep a group together. He's loyal to you...but only if you agree with everything he says, and does what he says. If he's so willing to just beat, or kill, anyone who's disagrees/wronged him without thinking first, then that makes him a liability. The dude was a cancer to a group; he's the reason Mike and Bonnie wanted to leave, the reason Walter died and the reason Jane felt that she had to do what she did.
Jane, while cold and distrusting to everyone else, is clearly loyal to Clem...but only to Clem; it seems to be the result of her desperately wanting a redo with her/a new little sister, but this time the little sister has the brains, skills and desire to survive. She won't go out of her way to help others, but she'd be damned if she let Clem die for any reason...so long as Clem still wants her to be around. She's also smarter than Kenny, is better at surviving, and thinks quick on her feet. JAne won't openly disregard people's ideas either, or start mes when it doesn't need to happen, or beat people because she's mad; she doesn't break the group up.
She's simply the better choice, when bias is taken out of the equation. To gut it out alone is practically suicide, because she's alone, and 11, taking care of a new born on her own...that makes no sense. Jane may be insanely overprotective of Clem, but she's smarter than both Clem and Kenny, so I'd rather have her with me than a guy who's one dead/hurt/missing baby away from going psychopath. What happens if ANYTHING happens to that baby? Kenny either goes off the handle, or goes complete recluse from everybody, or commits suicicide.
Also, Sarah dying....I get why she was in the game: a look into what Clem would've turned into, if not Lee training her. However, with Sarah, she didn't seem to learn anything...despite the situations the found themselves in. Clem learned on the fly, she made mistakes, but she learned, and was willing to learn. Sarah gave no hints that she wasn't going to become a burden, and I think it's pretty obvious that she would've joined up with Bonnie, Mike and Arvo because of Kenny's increasing hostility scaring the shit outta her.
Plus, even if she does stay, then Clem has to look after BOTH her and AJ. That's too much for an 11 year old, and if that would've been the case, then going with Jane would've made even more sense; with Jane, she has a much better chance at learning to survive out there, rather than with Kevin who 1) gave no fcks about, 2) is too hostile and 3) never taught anybody anything. Her death was a blessing both for her, and Clem.
People who like her have way better reasons than 'lol keny is cr@p'.
I haven't even seen one, and I get people trying to explain their reasons a lot to me because I dislike Jane.
Maybe she embodies everything that people expect women to be like in the zombie apocalypse (not trying to be sexist here). A survivalist, pragmatic, smart, good-looking, fit, young, no physical connections to the past, and actually cares about Clem (a.k.a. you) all traits that are welcomed when the world turns to shit.

I wasn't trying to list off facts, I was listing off characteristic traits as to why people may like her. But I understand that some people doe not like her, especially through her actions in the game.
A survivalist
That she is...But at what cost.
pragmatic
Usually but again that makes her let people die.
smart
… more
Debatable
good-looking
That's not a fact, I don't find her attractive nor find her to look good at all but that isn't a fact either.
no physical connections to the past
Yeah because she let them all die...She sure cries about a lot of shit in her past.
actually cares about Clem
Debatable.
I wasn't trying to list off facts, I was listing off characteristic traits as to why people may like her. But I understand that some people doe not like her, especially through her actions in the game.
The reasons are quite clear. Through the entire game I wanted to be with Luke or Bonnie or Mike or anybody but Kenny or Jane. In the end I was stuck with two emotional idiots, one of which is unstable and dead set on a goal I agree with and the other is a heartless unreliable survivalist who won't stop crying about her dead sister. During the fight I didn't give a shit, I didn't help either. In the final choice I didn't look away nor shoot...I sat there, watching. After that I didn't want to be alone, I left with Kenny to Wellington. At Wellington, I knew if I went in then Kenny would probably go into the forest and commit suicide. So I left with him.
Yeah i have noticed people are being more "trying to think of the word..." Jerkish, in the last few weeks. I been called a drunk, an asshole, and been told to go F myself.
what I mean was, the reason why people who DO like Jane's character is because she is a badass. I don't like her myself - not because she is a badass, I don't mind those characters its because she keep running away; from love, leave characters behind (Sarah) and because Kenny was breaking down. That factor about her was really annoying to me since it got repeated a lot. then she attack Kenny just to proved a point and wanted Clementine to remain with her - that was the moment when I said enough is enough I don't like this character.
you said before
I don't dislike Jane
now...
Personally I don't like her,
[okayyyy....]
it's like i like her but i don't like her at the same time like... what the fuck ..

Doug was really just a self-insert of one of the developers. I don't know how serious they were when they tried to judge whether players would really want to pick a nerd over a hot, competent woman who trusts Lee despite knowing his dark secret.

LOOL. I think almost like you, but I reversed the positions of Kenny and Jane. Im glad I wasnt the only one who laughed so much when troy died
where the hell is blind sniper, when you need it?
Because people have opinions. Yes, that exists.
Dang, Blind Sniper has been downgraded to an it? Dang, that's horrible, I'll send him chocolates.

what is your problem with those?

She's one of the best and most complex characters in the franchise. What's there not to like?
Her insults are the best. Imma use some of them IRL. :P
Ron Swanson for leader of Howe's
Hate Kenny, & neutral about Jane?
One does not simply "feel neutral" about Jane after what she did.
Jane forced Kenny's death. u happy now.
you make it sound like she never did any harm.
Danny St. John, is that you?
I was hoping someone would get that. :P

Yeah her actions made her unlikable for me, just like Kenny.
Didn't you say you left with Kenny?
Yes I did.
I left with Kenny.
The reasons are quite clear. Through the entire game I wanted to be with Luke or Bonnie or Mike or anybody but Kenny or Jane. Seems legit.
Um?
The fuck?
Can you let people have their opinions?
Doug was really just a self-insert of one of the developers. I don't know how serious they were when they tried to judge whether players would really want to pick a nerd over a hot, competent woman who trusts Lee despite knowing his dark secret.
i choose Jane, now i'm an idiot!??... wow.... hilarious.....and so are you , fandoms these days are pretty much stupid.. these days...
you can look at it that way.
or you can see jane being willing to kill or get killed to save clementine from certain death.
you replied to 2rational's opinion.
My comment is not ment to take away anyone's opinion, just to counteract their believes.
Jane saved the day! she saved Clementine from "certain death" by tricking her and provoking Kenny!
2irrational if you ask me :l
yeah,
it's so irrational to let the

kill the

stopping kenny from getting her killed = saving her form certain death.
There was originally going to be a sidequest with Doug, like there was with Carley, but it was scraped.
What was the sidequest gonna be about? You know?
you clearly said:
Jane got Kenny killed by tricking Clementine.
Ok you're standing by that, I get it. You condone Jane's actions.
Can't tell if you really hate Kenny, or just really love Jane. maybe both.
