Crushes

edited November 2014 in The Walking Dead

How would you react to Clementine having a crush on someone her own age? I know that during No Going Back in the campfire scene it's sort of implied that she had a crush on Luke (which is pretty normal and common with some girls going through puberty) but I think it would be really interesting and much needed given how dark season 2 was.

  • I am pretty sure Clem has not hit puberty. Yet.

  • She's 11. She's very close, if not, already going through it.

  • I'd react by keeping my shotgun ready. >:( cocks gun

Jk. In all seriousness, I'd be ok with it.

  • She'd be in the sixth grade. I had crushes in middle and elementary school. My first crush was in second grade. It's not like she'd be making out with anyone

  • That Clementine had a crush on Luke. I didn't see that, personally. I think that if Clem had a serious crush on him, she'd be crushed when she saw him with Jane. Girls at that age are super emotional when it comes to those sort of things. They were buds. He treated her with respect, trusted her. I think she saw that. I think she'll feel his death over anyone else at the cabin. That's why I trusted his word, over Bonnie's. Covered him, then fell through trying to save him. #FuckBonnie

As for crushes in the next season, I think it's unlikely. Season 3'll probably be all about the survival of AJ. The tough calls only get tougher, when there's a baby involved. Clem's gonna have to bite/tear out some throats.

I guess but I just interpreted the line of Clem having a small crush on Luke. I guess I just wanted more moments where the writers acknowledged that Clem is going through puberty and had moments where she acted like a preteen.. I think it'd be interesting to explore Clem having a crush on someone, maybe an older kid in season 3 and I could see her having a small crush on Luke. I think that so long as he doesn't return the feelings it's fine. It'd be like a sixth grader having a crush on a teacher

  • It's always nice to see people form a connection in this world. But she's still a kid in my mind. She stopped growing properly the second Lee died. Not sure she's even had "the talk" with anyone yet. I think that it'll take a few more years for her to explore her feelings. I think she's super vulnerable and doesn't want anyone that close to her heart, like Lee was. She didn't cry when Pete, Alvin, Carlos, Nick, Sarah, Rebecca, or Luke died. I think she's hopeful to form those kinds of bonds, but hesitant at the same time.

If they're going to have crushes, they better be determinant. While I don't want my Clem to be in a relationship, others might, so at least make it a choice for her to have a crush.

I mean I understand that she's tough but I think it would be interesting for her to experience "love" even if for a brief moment and I think her not crying was due to the writers rather than Clem's personality. If I had wrote season two I would've had a few moments where Clem breaks down and admits that she's scared or even acts like a kid again and I think that Clem's hesitation to make those bonds would make her crush more interesting and tragic. I think it would be sort of cool to see Clem meet a kid around her age and likes them but doesn't know if she should trust them while still fighting her feelings of puppy love and I had crushes before I had "the talk" I didn't think about sex or anything. I just liked being around my crush. I got butterflies in my stomach whenever I was near them and was happy when they were around. I just think it would be interesting to see something innocent and normal that most preteens go through while living in an environment where you have to grow up fast

    This again?

Clementine doesn't have a crush on Luke people. That makes no sense whatsoever. I guess the "implication" is that because Luke is conventionally attractive, that means we can pervert Clementine and make her seem like having a "harmless wittle crush" on Luke is okay. What's to say she doesn't have a crush on Kenny, Sarah, Mike, or Arvo? She could be cordial to all of them. So, why not say Clementine has a crush on Lee then? Cause that would be gross, right? Same thing with her having feelings toward a 20-something year old man.

Just another example of people wanting Clementine to be a passive participant in their own selfish fantasies. The fact is that Clementine is too damn young to have the slightest inkling of a clue about attraction yet.

Give her a few more years, then pervert her sexuality all you want. Weirdo's.

  • I think that's fine. If I remember correctly I think you can either play up Carley and Lee's romance or be cold to her but I could be mistaken

If they're going to have crushes, they better be determinant. While I don't want my Clem to be in a relationship, others might, so at least make it a choice for her to have a crush.

  • ohh... haha thanks...

  • Have you had a crush on a teacher? Weird.

It still makes no identifiable sense whatsoever. Plus this whole "Clementine has a crush on Luke" thing has been talked up enough by this point to know that many people don't think it's logical. Except the Luke fan girls that loves his Bill Maher nose.

I had a brief crush on one of my teacher's in middle school. Nothing happened and I would've freaked out and reported their advances if something did but I remember getting nothing lower than a B because I liked her and wanted to impress her (if I like the teacher a lot I'll do really well in the class) I just thought it would be an interesting idea. I could see Clem having a crush on Luke and him explaining why it's wrong. She can be heartbroken but I just think it would be a good way to show that Clem is going through puberty and even though was forced to grow up in the zombie apocalypse is still a preteen.

Now what were you saying again? It's the apocalypse, opinions from this generation don't matter in a world where zombies walk the earth, and humans kill each other all the time.

  • I always figured that Clem would have a liking for a friendly, well-meaning and handsome young man. Even though it never goes anywhere. It's perfectly natural for people to develop crushes on older attractive people - I've been on both sides of this dynamic.

But the boy you meet in Jane's ending is the first boy we've seen since Duck, and he seemed friendly to Clem. I seriously hope we see him again in Season 3 - this is another reason why the multiple endings were a bad idea.

  • I don't understand why this is so unspeakable. This is not Cluke, not a grown man having a relationship with an 11 year old, it's just a young girl having a crush on an older guy. Which is completely normal. Based on the game's dialogue, Luke's pretty good looking, so why is it such a taboo for Clem to have a small crush on him?
