How did the group not starve?

edited December 2014 in The Walking Dead

I was wondering about this in Season 2. The group hiked for 5 days to the Ski Lodge with little to no food or water. Then when they got there, they ate one bowl of peaches and beans. Then after Carver's camp, eating and drinking was little concern. They only found water at the museum and 2 cans of chili from Arvo. How did everyone keep their strength up? It doesn't seem like they were getting enough to eat.

  • I believe it's called filter feeding.

  • When they leave the cabin, it's implied that they only run out of food once they reach the bridge.

How did everyone keep their strength up?

I don't think they did. But i guess it's just boring to explore the same issues the past season already did. Starved for Help did a great job at showing the group's hunger and lack of food, so there's no need to talk about that in every episode.

  • How did the group not starve?

    Shhhh...

It's not important. Go to sleep, nothing but dreams.

  • How did the group not starve?

The same way Jane came into existence; shit writing.

  • Because the plot demands it.

Well, since it is just a videogame, they could gone indefinitely without food.
But realistically, if you're stranded without food, in couple of days you're not gonna have the strength to do much of anything.

If it's cold, the first thing you need to be thinking about is shelter, as even if you're dressed warmly, being exposed to the elements is still gonna have a profound detriment on your body.
In you're stranded someplace where it's warm, your first concern is finding a way to get water, as dehydration will set in real quick.
A person can go without food for about a month before succumbing to starvation, whereas they will die in 3-5 days without water.
And if you are stranded in a hot climate, and water is in short supply, you're better off not eating; as food consumption will speed up dehydration.

  • Telltale logic kept them alive

  • Kenny keeps a bunch of MRE's under his hat.

  • I heard that there was a deleted scene where Alvin and Clem were fishing. That would've been a great brief food explanation as well as character insight for Alvin

  • They ate walkers meat

In honesty, this is just another reason why the last two episodes are lame. If you stay at the deck and freeze for a couple of days in Omid The Ruins, the rest of the group is explicitly stated to starve with their lack of supplies, baby formula, and water (because Mike had to drop the bottles to yell at Sarah).

And there's the whole 9-days-later timeskip nonsense.

For a series where the tension's supposedly based on the group's dwindling resources, that lack of resources never actually impact you in any meaningful way.

  • Omid the Ruins?

You mean to say that Omid was responsible for the mess that was Amid the Ruins?

...Well now, his name means Hope, and thus by his death so did Hope. This explains everything.

  • The characters feed themselves off the script, they eat the words for sustenance.

  • Yeah but... character development? Who wants that shit?

If that were the case, they'd get poisoned.

  • Well I guess it would be the same reason why we don't see them shit, sleep, or umm...eat cause it would be pointless until it becomes important to the plot. Strange how no one ever concerns themselves with this kind of question in like an Assassins Creed or Mass Effect game. I assume that the cabin group are not complete idiots and that they could just scavenge or hunt for their food while traveling.

  • If you want to be technical how can Clementine survive without salt. You need salt to live. I wouldn't worry about all the unrealities of this game, if you do it will just make you crazy.

  • I've learned from S1 that too much salt will kill you. Thanks Telltale!

I remember when i would get annoyed at the unrealistic side of this game. Now i just don't care. I say give Clementine a M4, and have her go Rambo on Zombies, where she is doing her Rambo scream, and Rambo aiming zombies like a boss.

  • I would laugh so hard... Screw realism at this point the story is pretty much fucked so lets just make it into a comedy.
