When and how were you introduced to 'The Walking Dead'?

The first time I played 'The Walking Dead' was when my brother introduced me to it, after the 'Starved for help' episode I was hooked and have played every episode before and since. I started watching the TV series midway through season 4, I have watched every episode since and have bought and watched Seasons 1-3. How did you become introduced to it?

  • Friend of mine sat me in front of a very large television in a dark room, gave me a beer and told me to watch. It was S1E1 and I was hooked from then on. From there, I bought the comics, Blu Rays, and the Telltale games. And I really want the next comic to come out!

  • I could do with a beer.

    1. Saw Pewdiepie's playthrough
    2. Fell in love with the game
    3. Bought it on Steam
    4. ???
    5. PROFIT!
  • Sigh.

PewDiePie got me hooked when he released his first video of S1E1. Ever since then, I was majorly obsessed and to be honest, it's the only thin I think/care about.

  • Friend of mine pushed me to buy Season 1 way back when its final episode was released. Played it in virtually one sitting - it was Thanksgiving break and I had a few nights to kill. Was a wild ride.

  • I saw all the great reviews the game was getting and gave it a shot, despite being unfamiliar with the universe before that.

After season 1 I started watching the TV show, but it really seemed to go down the crapper after the first couple seasons. I feel the games are much better written, despite their flaws.

I got introduced into The Walking Dead by playing the game.

I had never watched the show or read the comics before i played it and i was browsing Steam during the 2012 winter sale and saw it in the daily sale and decided to buy it after watching a quick spoiler free review and it was probably the best sale purchase i have ever made. After playing it i really got into the Walking Dead universe and brought season 1&2 on DVD and started watching season 3 on TV as it had just started airing and then i brought both of the compendium books and i am now up to the current issue of the comics.

I also recently went to the Walker Stalker convention in Atlanta and met most of the actors from the show and i also met Melissa Hutchison who was totally awesome :D.

well i heard things about the show i hadn't watched it yet but my friends would tell me about it anyway one day i was bored so i got $25 onto my steam and bought the walking dead from there i decided to watch the show and then read the comics i was pretty much the only one out of everyone i knew who was aware of the game since telltale didn't even bother to submit it to the australian classification board so it was not released on anything other than pc until the retail version came out the next year

Have yet to play the game...I just lurk here...I'm a lurker

  • I actually only discovered it a couple of months ago from someone who uploads live streams from a channel called Vinesauce. They only uploaded their season 2 playthrough and I watched it just for the commentary, thinking I wouldn't actually be invested in the game, but look at me now. lol

  • I was introduced to the show through my cousin Robert, who is a huge fan of the show. I Netflixed the show (which was at the time at the mid season break of Season 2) and was hooked almost immediately. I have watched every episode since, and I feel the show has gotten better ever since the Glen Mazzera left.

I started reading the comics as a result of watching the show.

I heard of the game while watching the show one night. It was during a commercial break when a commercial for Season 2 came on (I would post the video, but since I'm doing this on my iPad and it always fucks up when I try to do that on it, I'm not even going to try). That's when I first heard of the game, but never played it. One day after school, in the library a few months later, I saw someone watching a play through on Youtube (I believe it was A House Divided), and as I was watching it, I got interested in it. So I bought the game's first season and was hooked immediately.

  • You should play it m8, S1 is awesome and S2 is almost as good.

  • I had just started watching the show at the start of Season 4 but I did go back and watch the other seasons and I needed more Walking Dead. I watched a little of Survival Instinct and there was no way I was playing that so I got season one and I am still impressed at how good it is.

  • A couple of my friends who were diehard fans recommended the show to me and then we eventually found out about the game.

  • I finished Back to the future and had to choose between dinosaurs and TWD, and i'm glad i chose TWD it got me hooked and i finished it 6-7 times

  • I was subscribed to NGT zombies (spider bites channel) and they started to play a new game, called the walking dead game. Watched through and waited patiently as episodes came out.

Kenny arrived on his magical boat and burst through my door, rapidly repeating the word; "Urban?"

The next thing I knew, I'd regained consciousness and a copy of The Walking Dead was just sitting there on my lap.

Meth is a hell of a drug.

What were we talking about again?

  • I had already played a Telltale game and one day I visited their website and discovered that TWD was going to be released. I had never heard of TWD before so I didn't know what to expect but I wanted to give it a try and I'm so happy I did! It's one of the best games I've ever played.

  • Go play it! I envy you because you are going to experience the game for the first time and there is nothing like a first playthrough. I'm sure you're going to like it! :D

  • I'd seen the show around a few times but was never really interested. Then I kept hearing about how sad the ending of the game (s1, obviously) was, so I decided to check it out.

  • Being poor made me play demos of pretty much everything on the xbox 360 marketplace. Tried it out, playing as a black man scavenging through someone else's house made me go "really?" and then that zombie showed up bashing it's brains in had me sold.

  • I caught wind of the show back when season 1 was wrapping up, since everyone was talking about it. I jumped on during the Season 2 premier for the show, obviously didn't understand too much, and then went and watched the first season and became a fan of it going forward.

I knew the comics existed before I started watching the show, but I never got around to reading them. It was when the 'A Larger World' arc started ( so around issue 93) that my interest piqued in them, but it wasn't until issue 100 got spoiled for me that I actually decided to start reading them.

After that, I caught wind of Telltale planning on doing a walking dead game. Having only experienced poker night, I didn't really know what to expect, but the writing for even that left me fairly hopeful that they could tackle it. After the first 15 minutes of it leaked online, I knew it was gonna be good. I was always a fan of single-player games, specifically ones that could tell a good story, so naturally, this was right up my aisle.

I eventually decided to read the novels, but I've only finished Rise of the Governor and Road to Woodbury. I liked them both, though.

Despite being introduced through the show first, the comics and game have become my joint-favorite medium, with the novels and show just behind them.

  • I bought those novels about 2 months ago but haven't read them yet.

  • a Friend told me to check out the game

  • The universe? I watched the show on Netflix and was hooked, started watching S4 when it aired. It is one of my favorite TV shows and not sure a lot of stuff can change that.

The game? It was during Black Friday that same year. None of the games that were on sale were that appealing, so I decided to pick up this game since I loved the show. Best game purchase ever. Not only because S1 itself was amazing, but because it introduced me to this amazing company and the rest of the great games they've made like Wolf Among Us, Tales from the Borderlands, and Game of Thrones.

  • Will my dad really egged me about the game for the longest, causes I remember seeing the first season on steam a couple a years back, but shrugged it off. However, I was interested after seeing a couple of videos on YouTube, and finally bought it along with Spec ops: The Line, Borderlands, Bioshock, Xcom: Enemy Unknown, and Fallout NV.

I finally played it after fucking around with fallout, and HOLY SHIT that was one hell of a game!!!! "What a masterpiece!" Said I. Thats until I played Spec ops: The Line, and it took the cake as being my favorite game out of the bunch...

BUT STILL!!! Both TWD, and Spec ops are my top 10 games of all time. Both left a very large impacts on me. Soon I bought season 2 and the rest is history! : D

Me and my cousin were watching the movie 28 days later around when the first season of AMC Walking Dead came out. He started talking about how 28 days later was a complete rip off of TWD comics as they pre-date 28 days later. If you haven't seen that movie, watch it, but if you have then you'll know that it starts with the protagonist awaking from a coma.
So I was curious and found the comics and read up to the Governor parts, unfortunately haven't read past that because I haven't been able to source any, but I do know major things that have happened in the plot since that point. Then I started watching the show but dropped off around season 3.
So of course when a walking dead game was announced I was going to play it :)

Also fun fact. My cousin is a dumbass because 28 days later is 2002 and TWD comics start in 2003.

Most weirdest/ greatest line ever. I'd love to know the story behind the writing of that line hahaha.

  • I was watching videos from a channel called Zackscottgames and I watched the first episode of his walkthrough. I wasn't interested in the Walking Dead at the time so I forgot about the game completely. Then, just over a year ago, I see a commercial for Season 4 of the show, and I watch the first three season and got hooked. It was only really late in 2013 ( maybe two or three months before I joined the forums) that I bought the game on Xbox 360. When I get to S1E2, I get stuck on the part where you confront Brenda (my controller joystick doesn't center itself on it's own) and I finally resort to asking for help on these forums. After I got past the episode, I decided to stay on the forums... and well you guys can probably guess the rest of it.
