Whose was the most Unexpected death? (Warning: contains LOTS of spoliers!)

In Season 1 and 2 countless characters die; some matter more to players than others, whilst some were just destined to be killed from the beginning. But whose death surprised you most?

From Season 1, I'd have to say that Carley's death was a BIG surprise to me. We'd sacrificed Doug for her and she was just starting to get closer to Lee, and then all of a sudden Lilly went and blew her brains out in just one moment of madness. I knew Lilly would eventually snap, but I expected that she would turn on Lee or Kenny who killed her father. Of all the characters in that group, she was one of the least likely to die (in my opinion) so her sudden death was all the more shocking. On a side note, I haven't included Doug's death because I reckoned he was destined to die from the beginning- but I didn't see Carley's death coming at all!

Katja's death also shocked me, though I hadn't expected her to live either. It was just the brutal way she died, killing herself. I wouldn't have been surprised if she'd been killed by Walkers, but suicide just didn't enter my mind as a possibility. I'd also say that Lee's death was a bit unexpected, as I'd expected he and Clem's story to last much longer.

In Season 2, the death of Carlos was a surprise to me- if anyone was going to die in that herd I would have thought it would have been Sarah, so Carlos suddenly dying like that took me off guard. Luke's death also surprised and angered me since I thought it was a waste of a really good character, but I'll leave that discussion till another time.

Anyone agree/disagree?

  • Brie, did not expect that shit.

  • Didn't you? I guessed she was going to die from the beginning, mostly because she was the fattest XD

Brie, did not expect that shit.

  • Actually his death didn't surprise me as much- the way he died did, but I had guessed his death was coming. I was more surprised by Christa's "death", though that's still not solved.

As for the second season (other than Omid who has already been said), I would have to say Pete, considering how early it was. Pete was likable from the start and was easily my favorite cabin survivor, and to see him die so early was very depressing.

  • :) I don't really like Brie in TWD, so I don't fancy trying Brie in real life.

  • Carlos' Death in my opinion was unexpected.

  • Lee's death was obviously pretty shocking, but I wouldn't have that down as the most shocking death because the emotion of his death really over-rided any sense of shock.

I wasn't too surprised by Pete's death, though it was a shame to see him go. I liked him :(

  • The usual - Lee, Omid, and Carley/Doug,

But honestly? I thought Carver's death was unexpected. They killed him wayyyy too early IMO and when I realized that Kenny was gonna kill him right there and right now I was a bit suprised.

  • Doug (I saved him over Carley)

Nick was also somewhat surprising, just randomly encountering him on a fence, though any surprise was overwhelmed by negative feelings towards his death.

  • Troy. I knew he would die, just not in the way that he did.

    Carley. Enough said.

Ben. His second death was really surprising to me. Still, good thing Kenny put him down. Such a good way to write them both off.

Being spoiled about his death before the episode was even available for you to play. There was a moment where I was like "......do I even want to put myself through this anymore?"

  • Probably Carley's second death when she's shot by Lilly. And Nick's. I knew he was going to die eventually but it was surprising just to see him stuck on a fence.

  • Sarah. That just really blew me away. I couldn't get her out of there, and it actually hurt just watching her scream as they crowded around her. Her last words were calling out my name, and it really got to me. I couldn't save her, it's happened to me before, I just can't seem to save people... It made me feel like I failed. I had this illusion that I could keep her alive, that I could keep her safe. I mean, I had a feeling she was going to die at some point, but it was the death that affected me the most.

Some other good mentions are Doug over Carley because Doug wasn't suspected to steal the supplies but he pulled Ben out of the way and got killed. Also Larry, I was trying to bring him back, and then right out of no where, a giant salt lick just crushes his face splattering blood over us...

  • Same here. I felt so bad when I left Sarah to die. I remember the scene afterwards and I was asking myself did I really just do that.

  • Deaths that were shocking in the purest sense (not in terms of how good or bad they were):

    • Larry (seeing a salt lick descend upon his cranium out of fucking nowhere was a moment that actually made my jaw drop. in real life.)

    • Jolene (danny just shooting her mid-sentence)

    • Carley/Doug

    • Katjaa

    • Omid

    • Carlos (i mean, you knew someone was gonna get shot in that scene, but i didn't expect carlos to just take a bullet to his neck mid-sentence)

    • Carver (for happening as soon as it did)

    • Nick

    • The old couple in the diner during Russell's story (when i went back and stayed with nate, i knew he was gonna kill them, i just didn't expect him to suddenly and nonchalantly shoot them like he did)

  • Nick.

  • Carley. My mouth literally dropped open.

  • ...I didn't forget him :)

  • His actual death wasn't shocking, but when he got bit...yea, I was speechless for about 10 minutes. And I'm not actually over exaggerating that.

It was shocking when he got bit, and for me, that shock just carried on over for the whole 5th episode. I couldn't stop thinking that he was going to die, that's why it's, to me, so shocking.

  • I was unhappy that he died so early in the series but as soon as the group had him surrounded I knew he was a dead man. And as soon as Kenny picked up the crowbar I knew what he was going to do (to his face) so that sort of took away the surprise for me. Still, I was annoyed that they killed him so early on.

The usual - Lee, Omid, and Carley/Doug, But honestly? I thought Carver's death was unexpected. They killed him wayyyy too early IMO and when I realized that Kenny was gonna kill him right there and right now I was a bit suprised.

  • Why Doug? From the moment I saw him I knew he would die, which is why I saved Carley instead because I thought she'd have a better chance of surviving. Doug dying didn't really surprise me, but Carley's death did.

  • I never thought Doug would die, and I just generally liked him better than Carley. I also liked him because he was also a bit of a comic relief. I'm glad I saved him, his presence in the second and third episodes was a lot better than Carley's in my opinion.

  • I can't agree with you over not expecting Doug's death- I always thought he would die, whilst Carley was a brilliant shot and more likely to survive then Carley. Having said though, I did like Doug and he was funny, certainly more than Carley. Shame that they killed Doug/Carley like that, but to be fair to Telltale it was brilliant storytelling

  • Troy's death made me laugh XD Served him right!

The way Ben died was a bit surprising certainly, but I knew he was going to die anyway so I wouldn't call it surprising. But Kenny's "death" did surprise me.

  • I left Sarah too, but really her death didn't surprise me and, although I felt sorry for her, it didn't really get to me that much. She was destined to die and I wasn't about to risk another character for her sake (when I first played it I thought that if you tried to save Sarah there was a chance that Jane could die).
