Um I'm not really excited about Season 3

  • Major choices in Season 1 had pretty much the same outcome (shoot Jolene, give the girl the gun, lose temper with Kenny, save Christa/Omid, etc.) Do you consider Season 1 to have lazy writing?

Although the choices that did matter had bigger consequences than in Season 2.

Yes but come on, the Can I go with you option? Help Christa? Help Sarah? Go to Luke or Save AJ? These were all major choices and had the sam

I feel that S2 went for quantity over quality in regards to story branching.

S1 had much less opportunities for branching, but since it had less, that meant the ones that it did have were able to carry more weight and impact, since you didn't have to juggle with various possible branches overlapping with one another.

S2 presented more opportunities for branching, but since it had such a large amount of possible branches available, the individual branches ended up having much smaller impacts as a result.

Major choices in Season 1 had pretty much the same outcome (shoot Jolene, give the girl the gun, lose temper with Kenny, save Christa/Omid,

  • Me neither. S1 actually wasn't that great too imo (not as awful as S2 though) after they killed Carley and Shawn just like that who had so much potential, and just when I though Chet was interesting they made him vanish and expect us players to just forget about it, f*cking hell -.- Well the ending saved S1, no such luck for S2. But I'm still going to give S3 a shot cause I still have a little hope.

I enjoyed S2, but I also emphasized less with the characters and felt a lesser emotional response from S2 than S1. I think the biggest problem was with the thematic structure. The story didn't feel as unified around it as in S1, causing the characters to be harder to relate to and inhibiting some character development.

If the theme was basically "sometimes you have to make 'bad' decisions to save who you care about,' then Ep1's opening scenes of Omid dying, being split up with Christa, the dog scene, and Clementine having to stitch up her arm seemed out of place. It focused on survival (which is a good thing), but it didn't also focus on the central theme. Since Lee had such a formative affect on Clementine, I would have really liked to see some reminiscing about him. Even something as small as thinking about what he'd do in x situation, where it would also relate back to the central theme. Maybe Clem and Christa could have argued about what's best for them after Omid died, where they could again bring up Lee and the central theme. The story tried to pick the theme back up more in Ep 2 onward, but it would have been more effective if it had set up the central theme more in Ep 1.

Anyway, I think the dialogue was well-done and the plot was interesting. What it could have used IMO was a story structure focused more on the central theme that would have created more empathy and character development. There is potential there for a great S3, with Clem's character arc from innocent/vulnerable little girl to survivor to caretaker in S3 with the baby. A good theme might be relating her new situation as a caretaker back to Lee in S1, and how she follows and doesn't follow Lee's decisions. I'd love to see that.

I'm hopeful...but with low 'rolling on the floor sobbing in disappointment' expectations for Season 3. Any time I think about maybe giving it a go when it comes out, thinking positive, I remember the finale and the floor sobbing thing just happens all over again. I just really did not like that last episode, even despite the few good things in it, it's put me off Season 3 to where I won't make up my mind on getting it until the whole season is out.

I do think after Season 2, Telltale will do better, it's just at this point in time not seeing anything it's kind of hard to believe in that right now. So currently it's low expectations, with hope for a side salad :P but it's a very good salad!

  • Do you think Telltale have learned?

That shoot out was so stupid; that lake was so stupid; everybody wearing thin jackets or shirts in that weather was so stupid; that Kenny vs Jane was so stupid! The 'I'll shoot near an old man, a kid and a baby as a warning shot, potentially drawing walkers to them instead of using the microphone first to speak to them, again potentially drawing walkers to them too, but who cares! I'm in my wall of safety!' was so stupid!

I need more vodka! Where is all the vodka!?

  • If they don't fix this time, not even telling myself, "I can write fanfiction to right all of the things I have perceived as wrong" will be enough to keep me invested in this game. .-.

...That's likely the case, with the exception of this place and tumblr, everyplace else seems to be giving pretty positive reviews to S2, so they probably think that it's good enough and that people will buy whatever the hell they put out regardless. Something tells me they won't bother trying to change, but I'm just a negative person. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. I'll just wait and see.

This is what I get for having high expectations for anything! The resulting disappointment I still feel is my own fault. .3.

I know lets players and gaming sites that noticed the obscurity so don't provoke a flame war, plus people on the forums (most of them anyway) are hardcore Telltale fans and a lot of Telltale's own hated it. So chill with that
