I knew Amid the Ruins

would be the best episode of Season 2 just from the thumbnail alone. I kind of wished they would've incorporated all those figures in the background in some way and the blood on clems face.

  • Yea, a couple of the pictures they had for the episodes have been misleading. I thought Rebecca would have her baby in episode three because of the picture. I thought the red paint on Clem's face would mean something but sadly it was just a cool looking picture. Still a great episode. :)

  • Pretty sure liking an episode of an awsome videogame is a far better opinion then only seeing people with blonde hair and blue eyes as perfect and feeling murdering an entire group of people is ok...

  • Its your opinion I know that but speaking for myself and many others this episode was FUCKING HORRIBLE. The episode was a mess the writing was trash and the choices (like holding a fucking bastard) makes me think Telltale put out this piece of shit as quickly as possible and expected us to love it. It was any flaws Telltale has rolled into one huge boring lob of shit. The Arvo Conundrum was dreadful, this episode is definitely the worst Telltale has ever made. (even worse than No Going Back)

This is without a doubt the best post to ever grace these forums, how could I be so blind

  • I respect your opinion, but, for me personally? I'd say one of the worst episodes of season 2, along with In Harm's Way.

  • I liked it a lot as well, It at least gave some screentime to every one of the group that they were continuing with.

Ep 1, 2 and 3 all killed characters with brief development to

  • Ep 4 was awesome for the sole "fallen but never forsaken" and the not leaving anyone behind symbolism.

  • I didn't find it so bad but it sure isn't the best episode in the series...

  • Are you saying its your favorite episode, or are you saying its actually the best?

  • Wouldn't favorite and best be the same thing?

Are you saying its your favorite episode, or are you saying its actually the best?

  • If Eddie was in this episode, it would have been the best.

  • When I got done the episode Amid the Ruins for the first time I actually really liked it. It had hard choices, the episode was long, and it was tense as hell all the way through. It was only when I came on to the forums that I had my doubts, but in the end it's your personal opinion that should matter most.

  • No, favorite is personal preference, while best is better than the others. (Acting as if fact.)

  • It was, it made me laugh.

  • Same, when I played it, I thought, "Wow, that was a great episode." But once I started to really analyze the episode, seeing other play througs and such, I realized what an utter shitfest this episode truly was. Of course, I respect the person's opinion, but a lot went wrong with this episode that, when you're caught in the moment of the game, you don't see and realize. Sometimes you got to look beyond the surface and peel back the layers, that's where you find the problems with this episode.

  • I support the OP, unpopular opinions unite.

    I call Clementine Boringtime.

  • True, but it's kinda heart-breaking because I would have been content with how the episode was if it wasn't for all the "problems" people pointed out, because most of them didn't like how the season wasn't turning out all together.

  • I wouldn't say that it's the best episode of the season, but I don't think it's the worst. I don't think it's as horrible as most people and critics claim either. Every episode has it's pros and cons, I thought In Harms Way was very disappointing-more so than Amid the Ruins. They did off a lot of characters between the end of episode 3 and episode 4, but not as bad as most say it is

  • Episode 4, no, Episode 5, yes. But to be honest, I enjoyed Episode 1-3 as well.

  • Can people who dislike the episode please explain to me why it was so bad? Is it just because they killed of Sarita, Sarah and Nick? The only one of those deaths that was poorly done was Nicks but the other 2 I don't get why it's a bad thing. Sarita dying improved Kennys character to either sticking by him when his being an asshole or building more hate for him. Sarah was a good to because it shows that you just can't help people sometimes.

I actually thought it was good. Interacting with Jane, Seeing Kenny's state after losing another close person to him. The battle with the walkers. The funny game with the racoon. Finding out that Luke betrayed the group. the cliffhanger ending.

Far better then A house divided, the only good thing about that episode was the ending when Carver takes over the group.

    1. Jane is the only developed character: all the others are simply just there and have no development whatsoever. The writers really just put the entire focus on her so that we could become attached to her. Meanwhile, characters like Bonnie, Mike, and everyone else, are just there and don't develop at all.
    2. Kenny: he acts almost the same way he did when Duck died. I get it, he lost someone close to him, but it's been two years and he's still acting like he's the only one to lose someone in this world. His behavior in the tent, while a good speech, makes him act like he is the only one who has lost someone, meanwhile, Clementine has lost more than anyone and she's holding together well. The writers were basically repeating Kenny's story arc from last season. Not to mention he gets angry at an 11 year old girl and treats her like shit after it happens (and this is coming from a die hard Kenny fan).
    3. Sarita: simply a plot device just there to further Kenny's decent into madness.
    4. Sarah: she had so much potential, and she was an innocent kid who just saw her father die in the worst way possible, and the writers just throw her away like it was nothing. She could've been a great friend for Clem, she could have learned how to be strong, but nope. Not to mention, she dies twice, that's just bad writing and really lowers the importance of our choices.
    5. Nick: one of the most developed and interesting characters from Season 2, this is not how a determinant character, or any character, should be handled. To die off screen like it was nothing, absolute garbage. What makes it worse is that he was pushed to the background in Episode 3 and was only there to be a Luke cheerleader. To have an important character die like that, it's a slap in the face.
    6. Choices: the choices were terrible and meaningless. I get that Telltale games have the illusion of choice, but there wasn't any allusion in this episode, it was blatantly obvious that we are being led to the same outcome. Arvo claims you stole no matter what, Rebecca dies no matter what, again, Sarah dies twice in the episode, Kenny's mad at you no matter what. Not to mention the choices at the end of the episode are bad. Instead of decisions like, "Who you went with first?" or "Did you accept the nail file," we got, "Did you hold the baby?" By far, the stupidest choice I have ever seen in the game.
    7. Writing staff: One writer for this episode, Eric Stirpe, is more of a designer and not a writer, along with the fact that his work was divided between TWD, TWAU, and, most likely in its beginning stages, TFTBL. The other writer, J.T. Petty, does not work at Telltale and wasn't involved in Season 2 at all before this episode. When you have the combined efforts of people like Mark Darin, Nick Breckon, Pierre Shorette, and several others who had additional writing credits on this episode and it still is a steaming pile of crap, you know it's bad writing.
    8. The whole episode had this feeling of being rushed out the door and not fully thought out.

And I respect your opinion about A House Divided and this episode, but A House Divided > Amid the Ruins. AHD had everything that ATR did not.

    1. They did bury themselves with the potential of Bonnie and Mike when they gave them a pretty ordinary send off in no going back. I thought Bonnie did get a lot of character development in "In Harms Way". By the way they did it with Jane makes me think it was because she was going to be the final choice with her and Kenny but I agree that it was unnecessary to build her character that much or try to shove her down our throats. They did that a lot in season 2.
    2. Im a Kenny fan as well and I can get where you're coming from. I think they bought him back just because so many people wanted him back And didn't really have a plan on how to use him . Remember, they did have his death in no time left more obvious he died but they decided to make it off screen so they could do something with it just like bringing him back. Wouldn't shock me if they did something like with Christa. Even though Clementine lost a lot, Kenny losing his wife and son the way he did is pretty traumatic. As Adults, we know a lot more then children. Yes, Clementine is mature for her age but at the time, she was still a little girl. That was purely to make you hate him, like Luke betraying the group by sleeping with Jane.
    3. It did work, it made people hate Kenny even more. Yes, it was cheap and unneccasry but it got people hating him.
    4. The writers were trying to make her appear a burden and hopeless so there was not much the player could do. Seems like they were trolling with the whole, you can save her but in the end, she'll die in the same episode anyway.
    5. I agree 100% with you there. That was one of the worst things they did. I was actually surprised Nick lasted that long. Thought they would've killed him off in episode 3 even though you can say he was considering he was in episode 4 for alive for what 2 seconds ?
    6. I always thought Rebecca would die after giving birth. Arvo, it seems that they were trying to make you hate him as well. LOL, it does seem like a pretty stupid decision.
    7. I don't understand why they would bring new writers in with the amount of success they had with the pervious writers,
    8. I felt that with no time left. I felt it had potential to be amazing but seemed rushed so I guess you and me have that same feeling with that and amid the ruins for yourself.
That's fine dude, and I respect your opinion about why you dislike ATR. I guess we see it different. Which is ok.
